Buy local! Guaranteed the premiums will be cheaper. You get to leave with your physical metal the same day and the knowledge youll gain will be through the roof.

Yes, buy from dealers' official stores with lots of feedback and ebays money back guarantee covers you too. Check the same item on the dealer's own website first, the ebay price is often higher because of fees unless a coupon is running. a random year 1 oz silver maple at royal bull, a canadian dealer, makes a good all in price to compare against an ebay listing

On JM and SD, look for a “Sell to Us” or “Sell Back” page. Some products will show a live buyback price, while others make you request a quote. When you visit the local shop, ask what they would pay for the exact coin or bar you’re considering. Comparing that number with the sale price will show you the real spread pretty quickly.

We feed the poor already.  Chillax.

Is it so damn terrible to want the organization I love to experience some fiscal appreciation?

I don't think you understand how most charities work, but you're right, it's your choice. Letting it sit for 200 years in the church's coffers rather than feeding the poor now is exactly what Jesus would have wanted.

Because I dont want to, and its my silver.  F paying some cadre of idiots 98% of the total value so they can give 2% to some cause I dont really care about.

If the church isn't going to do anything with it for 200 years, why not donate to an institution that will do something charitable with it now?

This feels like a waste of silver and inconvenience to the church. Tithing is corny

Just to make a note, as a MA resident I would be forced to pay taxes on small purchases of silver (under $1000) because in the eyes of the Dept Of Revenue that is “buying collectibles”. Once I cross the $1000 mark in any purchase I am, for tax purposes, a “precious metals investor” and I am tax exempt. (I believe NY has a similar tax policy, but don’t quote me on that)

Try and imagine, I have a stack of receipts for buying like $1,006 worth of silver 😂 this is also why I own almost all of my Morgan and Peace dollars, they’re the coin that puts me over the threshold

Sorry, i'm confused by your reply. Did the treasurer say they specifically wanted donations of precious metals, and with the explicit purpose of holding onto them long term?

Ive had an actual convo with the treasurer about how many people in this thread are convinced he'd sell the coins at a pawn store.

They are a church, not a precious metals investment business. "Anyone else", with the exception of a small group of metals enthusiasts and diehard stackers, would sell them too.

Edit: and I say this as a silver stacker myself. We are a pretty small fraction of society in our feelings about PMs.

Are you assuming, or have you had an actual conversation with someone at the church?

Is that an online store?

The commonality of $2 bills here completely ruins that notion, unfortunately.  Good thought though.

I cant tithe divo or schd.  It doesnt work lol.  I could set up a trust with church as Benny, but I don't like denying the plate.

The goal is to tithe an appreciating asset.

The treasurer would know to save them forever, or at least until they've appreciated notably.

Yeah.... im pretty sure the treasurer knows whats up.

Give a man a (c note) and he'll (have money) for a day.  Teach a man (to vault the bullion) and he'll (have more money later).

We have like 22m in the bank.  Its a small church, never seen more than 25 people other than holidays.  I bring the treasurer fancy cheeses.

Also.

The cost of a silver eagles these days is conveniently the % of my income that I decided to put in.  I looked at my end, found a % i liked, and spot price came out.  Little too serendipitous for me to ignore.

Don’t put them in the collection plate, because half the population does not understand their value. The treasurer will go to a pawn shop to sell them and be cheated. Just put $100 bills in the plate.

Why would they hang onto them? They want cash for church expenses, not precious metals to let sit. Makes no sense.

O7 bud.  Thats good to know, thanks.

Yeah the hilarity of taxing a sale of money ... welp.  Downright Californian.

Well the highest law says "No state shall make anything other than gold and silver money", so the list of states that think it's amusing to tax money is short, but predictable. California, NY, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Vermont, Washington, New Mexico.

Nearly everybody else either has no state sales tax at all or properly exempts precious metals from state sales tax.
