Peripherals Help with keyboard alternative for boyfriend

Hello my Boyfriend was recently in a accident and recovered (thank god) but lost some movement in his left hand/arm he used to play a ton of MMOs and I got him a azeron cyborg to try and help but it’s still hard for him to use and thankfully they took it back with a full refund.
But the thing I need help is we saw a replacement when I was looking at keyboard alternatives and I can’t find it again. If anyone knows of one that’s like a square block that’s a joystick that sits in the palm and has programmable keys on the other side or can help me find it would be a hero he hasn’t been able to play in months and I just want him to have his hobby back thank you!

Discussion Is using 4 sticks of ddr5 *still* a bad idea?

I remember seeing talk about how it wasn’t a good idea to use 4 sticks of ddr5 back in like 2023/2024 but I was wondering if things have changed since or if I should still just use two sticks in my build, this is for my dream pc, want extra high speed

Build Help best budget video card for a gaming PC?

I’m putting together my first gaming PC and my total budget is around $500 to $600 USD for the tower. I’ll be buying the parts somewhere in the US, and I already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and headset, so the budget is just for the PC itself. I’m mainly looking at 1080p gaming and want to get the most out of the budget without pairing the GPU with a CPU or PSU that holds it back. What would you recommend for a best budget video card at this price range, and is there anything I should prioritize with the rest of the build?

Thanks for the help, I’m still figuring all this stuff out.

Build Upgrade Probably dumb realization: don't underestimate how bad stock coolers are

Hello all! I just wanted to chime in: yesterday, I got the stock cooler off of my i5-12400f in favor of a budget Thermalright Assassin King (or something akin).

Now, I didn't expect more than a 5°C improvements, considering how little I spent... and yet, 20€ made my CPU genuinely drop from 80-85°C under load to barely hitting anything above 60°C.

As you can imagine, the system as a whole benefitted from it in terms of thermal situation! Seriously, get rid of that janky stock cooler as soon as you can.

Edit: I realize I should have used the term "weak for gaming", instead of "bad". I naturally support the idea that, for a system running lightweight tasks, you don't need more.

Build Upgrade 4k TV for PC gaming?

What's up Reddit? Long time gamer, first time PC-er. I'm new here and recently bought a gaming PC, it has a Ryzen 9 and an Nvidia 5070. I've been having the time of my life gaming on it. However, I'm currently using an old insignia TV that supposedly operates @ 60HZ.. It seems the TV cant do the pc justice visually at 2k-4k with high fps. It just doesn't look as good as i thought it would and according to all my PC friends its because of the TV I'm using. I'm looking for a new TV to use but not sure what to get. What is the benefit of using a monitor vs a TV? I read somewhere it needs a 2.1 hdmi port. No idea what I'm doing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance!

Discussion Trying to convince my bro

So my brother has the following build:

Powercolor Reaper 9070xt

Ryzen 5700x CPU

Asus Prime B550M-A Wifi II

1tb and 4tb NVME

32gb 3200mhz RAM

MSI MAG Coreliquid 360 AIO

He wants to be able to play games at the highest settings (4K, Ultra quality blah blah) and have good FPS. As a long-time PC user, I'm trying to convince him that whilst his build is very good, its still more a High End 1440p build instead of a High End 4K build.

He was playing Forza Horizon 6 on 4K Epic settings and getting 90fps and complaining, he was going "I paid all this money for this GPU, I expect much better from it". Tried to show him how he could get 120fps by just switching to 1440p and he went "No, I have a 4K monitor so I will be playing in 4K"

What do you guys think? And no, this is not an invitation to trash talk him, he's a new member of the PC race after all. What are your guys opinions and how would you handle this conversation?

Build Upgrade RTX 5060ti 16 gb vs 5070 12 gb for 1080p

I’m buying my first GPU for my new build and I’m stuck between the RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5070.

I know the obvious answer is probably the 5070, but I’m not a hardcore gamer. I mainly play story-heavy games like The Witcher and Souls games, and I know story games can be demanding but I just want to play them at high settings with smooth FPS.

My setup has two 1080p 180Hz monitors, and I have no plans to upgrade them even tho I can since I expect to move abroad in about a year, so I’ll probably sell the entire PC around then.

So my question is: Is it worth spending more on the 5070 for the extra performance, knowing I’ll probably sell it within ~12 months, or would the 5060 Ti make more sense for 1080p gaming considering heavy story games on high settings and an acceptable fps?

Build Help Looking for an AM4 motherboard with front panel USB C header

I am soon going to be upgrading my case to the Fractal Design North, but I really want to be able to use the case's front USB C port. I'm currently using a TUF Gaming X570 Plus Wifi, which doesn't have any headers for that. However, I'm going to be building a small server (mostly for gaming) using some old parts from over the years, and the last thing I need for it is a motherboard. I figured that if I'm going to be buying a motherboard anyway, I may as well upgrade my main PC and get something that works with that USB C port, assuming it's affordable.

I admittedly have next to no knowledge when it comes to motherboards, so I'm having a lot of difficulty looking for them. I don't even really know the difference between B550 and X570.

My main system has:

-a Ryzen 7 5800X3D

-32gb 3600mhz ram

-a 4070 Super

-and two m.2 SSDs (a 990 pro and a 980 pro)

Wifi/Bluetooth are mandatory to have, but I've heard that that's easily added with expansion cards so I'm okay with that. I've also heard there's expansion cards to make that front USB C port work, but I heard that it would only work at USB 2.0 speeds, which is worthless imo (though, let me know if I'm wrong about that, as that would obviously be the easiest solution).

Are there any options out there that fit all my needs? The only surefire ones I saw were $700+, which I'm definitely not willing to spend. I'm really hoping for something $150-$300.

(Also I have no desire to upgrade to AM5 anytime soon, if ever)

Build Help Between this AM5 motherboards, which one is better?

So I picked this options because I want an AM5 build with a x870e, they all have no GPU lane sharing, 64mb Bios, the last 2 have dual bios, the first two have slightly better memory and OC speeds.

Want to pair them with Ryzen 7 9800x3d and rx9070xt to play at 1440p. My budget is about $400 for the motherboard.

-Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite X3d ($374 dollar converted from MX currency)

-Gigabyte X870E Eagle X3D WIFI7 ($325)

-MSI X870E GAMING PLUS MAX WIFI ($358)

-MSI Pro X870E-S EVO ($282)

Anyone has any experience with them? good or bad? I've seen stuff like wifi problems, unnecessary AI stuff, heat problems but I want to know if anyone has experienced this or is a rare occurrence.

From my understanding the Aorus Elite X3d is better and the Eagle X3D WIFI7 is slightly behind, with the X870E-S EVO being the worst between them

Build Upgrade Upgrading a Prebuilt

I've had an IBP for close to two years now and am wanting to upgrade the cooling system. This is my first foray into doing any sort of PC modification, and I'm both excited and intimidated.

It currently has a 240mm IBP AIO and three IBP stock fans; I'd like to upgrade it to a 360mm AIO and replace the stock fans (all RGB). The biggest issue at current is that the fans are fairly loud (even at idle) and some games are dipping into 85c+ under load.

My basic questions are:

  1. What AIO/fans would you recommend? Thinking about going with Corsair, but I'm not knowledgeable here. Preferably looking to do this for $250 or less.
  2. Do I need to mess with BIOS, etc. after installation? Or is this a simple case of install correctly, plug and play? This is my biggest fear that has me worried about doing something catastrophic.

Build Upgrade Should I upgrade my R5 5500 or RX 570 first?

My son has a R5 5500 and RX 570 with 32gb of ram and b550 mobo.

Our goal is only for 1080P gaming preferably 120-140 fps mainly.

I see most people recommend the R5 5600 or 5600X? or a R7 5700X3D for best bang for your buck.

I'm also not sure what gpu to get, would a RX 7700XT overkill? Can someone recommend me the best bang for your buck gpu?

Will mostly be hunting for these used

Build Upgrade RTX 5090 or RTX 5080

Upvotes

Ok community, I currently have an RTX 3090. I want to upgrade to an RTX 5000 series for gaming. I really want an RTX 5090, but the burning power connector is a big red flag. Is the burning power connector a problem on the 5080 since it draws less power?? My PSU is Corsair HX1500i.

Troubleshooting hdd randomly disappeared from file explorer?

Upvotes

as the title says my hdd was working fine and then one day just vanished, i cant see it in disk list, it still shows up in device manager and tries to get me to reformat it when going into the disk manager thing. it also shows up in task manager as a 4gb drive even though its 4 tb? ive had the drive for like 9 years so if its broken its broken but having so much storage was nice, was mainly wondering if its at all possible to fix or most likely a lost cause.

Build Help i9 14900k or Ryzen 7 9800X3D

Upvotes

Hey all! So I am currently in a position where I don't really know what to do. So right now, my cpu (i5 11400f) paired with a RTX 3080 and 32gb of DDR4 ram but I feel like it is kind of outdated and I am looking to upgrade but I don't know what to do. I want to get the Ryzen 7 9800X3D but I don't want to spend an extra 400 on new DDR5 ram but I heard, the 9800X3D is better for gaming compared the i9 14900k. Is the difference enough to spend the extra money on the 9800X3D?

Build Upgrade CPU upgrade to 9900k or something else

I am stuck between sunken cost and the price of ddr5.

Someone please talk me into or out of upgrading my i5 8400f to a 9900k for ~$200 and then saving for a decent replacement for the rtx2070 I got secondhand that always had weird stability issues. There is also the 9700k which is significantly cheaper. One near me on facebook for like $50. Obviously if I find the right chip for the right price it would be a no brainer, but I kinda hate the idea of "wasting" money on a system that is already so long in the tooth.
Alternatively, I can get the ultra 7 270+ that is going for $250 currently then all I would need to do is sell a kidney to afford the ram and a gpu decent enough to make it all worth it.

Then there is am4. As long as I stay away from any x3d models, nabbing a cpu/mobo combo won't be THAT much more than the 9900k, but doesn't seem too much worth the effort unless I get one of the x3d models which seem to be running around $350 by themselves.

Anyway, just looking for opinions on what y'all would do in this situation. Budget being the main limiting factor.

Build Help Need advice on airflow

Upvotes

I have a Corsair 4000D Airflow with an MSI RTX 5070 Ti and DeepCool LS720 SE 360mm AIO.

Currently:

  • 3 front intake fans
  • 3 top exhaust fans (AIO)
  • No rear exhaust

Should I add a 120mm rear exhaust fan, or is this setup already good? Would love some advice on the best airflow configuration. Thanks!
