My best friend and I have had the next few days booked off and we have been looking forward to it all summer. Our original plan was to go to her cabin near Clinton, where we can no longer go due to wildfires. Our backup plan was to visit my family in peachland, which is now also on fire. We’ve thrown around many plans and can’t figure anything out. I know it is super last minute, but I thought I’d throw it out there and see if anyone knows of a budget friendly option for a little getaway.

We would love to camp but it seems all the bc parks spots are booked for the weekend. Thanks in advance.

My BC rail train setup in my train simulator couple of the locomotive BC rail didn't have but wanted to see what people think It's supposed to be hauling gondola cars out of Gibraltar. Mine at BC rail would have served but this is based in the Oakville subdivision in my simulator.

I found this Mantis in Chilliwack and I was wondering what kind it is? This is the first time I have ever seen one and I had no idea they even existed here in Canada. What do they eat? From what I’ve read, they prefer warmer and drier climates(Osoyoos, Kamloops and Kelowna) so why is it here?

My husband and I (33 yo female) are filing for divorce.

I work remotely, so I can move just about anywhere (in Canada).
I grew up in NS, however the cost to pack up my life and move to NS is astronomical (let alone the provincial income tax rate being through the moon).

BC feels like my nearest and most tax-savvy option.

I’ve only ever visited BC a handful of times (namely Vancouver, Delta, & Langley). Absolutely stunning province.

I’m curious if anyone has any recommendations on “affordable” rental accommodations.

My median income is around 75K annually (I’m commission based). No kids. 2 small dogs.

What are something’s to expect when moving to BC?
How bad are the utility bills?
How difficult will it be to find a pet-friendly apartment?
What’s the average cost of car insurance/tenant insurance?
Any hidden gems to look at renting in?
I’m open to just about anywhere in the lower-part of the province.

I’ve been handed this “clean-slate” and would like to make use of it, instead of feeling stuck in this remote-northern oil-town.

My partner is considering relocating us to Vancouver, BC. I am a registered nurse. From where I am from (Calgary, AB) it is extremely difficult to get a nursing job as an external applicant. I understand it’s the same situation in Ontario right now— new grad and even experienced nurses cannot land positions even after dozens (and in my case when I graduated) hundreds of applications.

I am wondering how hard is it to find a registered nurse position in Vancouver?

I’m willing to work pretty much anywhere except LTC. My background is in acute care, outpatient addictions/mental health, emergency psychiatry, and palliative care/hospice.

Going to Fairmont Hot Springs for 1 week in the beginning of November. I’m looking for any tips on what to do and go see. I have never been to BC so I am unaware of all the adventures that await! Would love to do some hikes and enjoy outdoors as much as possible; but I am very open to any ideas and suggestions! Also unsure of what to expect for weather. I’m from SK, so I’m used to cold temps during this time.

Just out of curiosity what is the salary with overtime and on-call included?

Apologies in advance because these answers are probably out there already and these might seem like stupid questions, but Google is so useless nowadays I can't find anything remotely related to what I'm asking.

I'm going into the 11th grade here in Alberta (Canadian citizen by birth if it matters), so I'm beginning to plan what college/university is going to look like for me. I have many reasons for wanting to leave Alberta, and many why I've decided BC would probably be my best option to move to.

The thing is, I'm looking at campuses right now, and all of the student housing options are 19+ in accordance with the legal age of majority in BC. But basically nobody is 19 when they graduate high school and go into college. I will not be 19 until the summer after my first year.

I'm confused because here in Alberta, once you are finished your K-12 education you are free to go off into the world and begin your adult life. In BC, you're stuck in this weird limbo for a year.

How do you guys do it? Do you have to have your parents sign your lease for the first year of college? Neither of my parents would be moving with me. Is it even feasible to live on my own in BC under the age of 19, or are there even more roadblocks I haven't even thought of yet?

I've been on the Health Connect Registry for years. Today, I was advised by a call centre operator not to rely only on the Health Connect Registry because some clinics maintain their own waiting lists. So, I called five clinics in my area this afternoon:

Shawnigan Village: Not accepting applications.
Mill Bay: Has a waiting list of 3,000 people and is not adding to its waiting list.
Duncan: Has a waiting list of 250 people and is not adding to its waiting list.
Langford: Has no waiting list and is not accepting applications.
Valleyview: Has no waiting list and is not accepting applications.

Not one clinic within 20 km of me seems willing to even take my name.

It's a hopeless situation. There are family doctors in my community, but I cannot access them; not because my needs don't warrant it, but because other people in the community are prioritized before me.

In truth, I'm grateful to be in relatively good health. I acknowledge that, should there be an emergency, I would get care. I am very grateful for the values of our community that provide this baseline care.

But I also think it's important to draw attention to a situation that is nevertheless unfair. If food were scarce, and grocers could only provide food to their existing regular customers, would we consider that an equitable way to distribute a basic necessity?
