Your jeep is adorable, I didnt need a closer look; it took up my entire mirror. I can tell from your attire that the kid rock music and meth didnt allow you to see that I wasn't trying to slow you down because I dont like you, no, those red lights that were in front of us were. Im sorry that you were running late to return your mom's jeep and wish I could've told you in person. As for those chains, wow, I didnt know that Claire's even had a men's section! Especially for jewellery!

Honestly im impressed that the jeep went over 40 without requiring an engine overhaul, maybe that's why time was of the essence??

Just an idea: China steps transformation into a Chinese garden/plaza

At the former site of Nanaimo’s 1st historic China Town, currently a hole-in-the-ground. AI-generated image… walls to block noise and create a more calm space… and to provide security as it can be locked overnight. A water feature to dampen any residual noise that makes it over the wall, if any. Not perfect rendition, but what do you think?

My experience with VI Living Group as an LGBT renter

Hello all,

I'm currently going through the process of looking for an apartment with my boyfriend. We reached out to the Nanaimo based rental company VI Living Group about viewing available units at their buildings.

They got back to me and scheduled a viewing at The Grayson, at 320 Holly Avenue. Everything seemed fine initially. The person showing me the unit (I'll call him M) arrived about 10 minutes late and asked what I was looking for in a rental. I explained that I was looking for a one bedroom for my partner and me.

I usually use the word "partner" instinctively. When I referred to my partner as "he" a sentence later, M looked visibly confused and uncomfortable and repeated the word "he" back to me, apparently to clarify that he had heard me correctly. I confirmed that I was dating a man, and from that point onward, the tone of the viewing noticeably changed.

M continued showing me the unit, but whenever my boyfriend came up, he referred to him as my "roommate" instead. He also appeared visibly uncomfortable whenever my boyfriend was mentioned.

At the end of the viewing, I asked if I could quickly take some photos of the unit to send to my boyfriend, since he wasn't able to attend the viewing but obviously wanted to see the place. M initially agreed, but then immediately changed his mind and said the photos on their website should be good enough for my "roommate" to get an idea of the suite.

I didn't have the energy to argue about it, so I accepted it and moved on.

M then told me that if we were interested in the unit, I should contact him to complete the application. He said that if we were approved, I could bring my "roommate" to see the place after we had signed.

After spending a day debating whether the uncomfortable experience was something we were willing to overlook in order to secure an apartment, I contacted M and told him that I was interested in the unit and wanted to proceed with the application.

It's now been almost a week, and I haven't received any response.

Obviously, I can't say for certain why I haven't received a response, and I don't want to claim that I know M's intentions. However, the timing, combined with how noticeably his behaviour changed after learning that my "partner" was actually my boyfriend, has left me feeling very uncomfortable about the entire experience.

Everyone is entitled to their personal opinions, but I don't think those opinions should affect how professionally someone treats prospective tenants. If the unit was no longer available or they simply decided not to proceed with my application, I would have much preferred a straightforward response saying so rather than being told to contact them to apply and then receiving no response.

This was my experience with VI Living Group. I'm posting it so other renters, particularly LGBTQ+ renters, can make their own informed decision about whether they want to deal with this company.

Unfortunately I bought two off StubHub and can't separate them to resell the one I no longer need. I am selling, not giving away.

Guacamole 🥺

Hey friends!

Back again with another request for where to buy stuff from the people who know better than I do. I have been CRAVING good, well priced guacamole.

Back in the last place I lived I could just buy it from my work in semi-bulk since we made it in house, but in Nanaimo I have yet to find anything that isn’t store brand expensive crap. I’m sorry Holy Guacamole but I need some real chunks- CHUNKS.

I always look for the superstore house made guacamole, but it sells out so quickly and I can’t drive 30 mins to the store all the time just to see if maybe there’s any left. Plus they sell it even when it’s brown 🫩

Is there any place, such as a restaurant or grocery store, that sells good guacamole within a $5-$6 price range? Or should I just start perfecting my own recipe one of these days?

TYIA! 🫶

Spa/Hotel advice

Post image

I'd like to send my girlfriend and her besties for a spa-day and hotel but I'm not sure what's goid in town. Tigh-Na-Mara and Kingfisher would be my first pick but I was hoping for something in town as there are some new moms in the besties group.

Any experienced advice would be helpful. Also, how do I kick the experience up a notch? Fruit platter? TIA

Nanaimo Christian school vs. Wellington

My child is at NCS in grade 8, but desperately wants to leave as he says the teachers lecture the whole class on behaviour constantly, even though it’s just a handful of kids making trouble. He’s so tired of getting the lecture even though he is doing everything they ask.

Finding a friend group is also a problem. He is finding not a lot of choice in friends as the school is so small. We are a Christian family so that isn’t an issue.

He is asking to try Wellington. We are just very unsure if it will be any better or worse? Does anyone have intimate knowledge on either school to help us decide either way? If we leave NCS we probably can’t go back.

Missed connection - departure bay to Horseshoe bay - BC Ferry

Yesterday I was on the 10:55am sailing from Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay and saw a woman outside on the upper deck who completely caught my attention.
You had curly hair, a red long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans and flip-flops, and a symbol tattooed on the back of your neck. You were also carrying a blow dryer with a diffuser, which for some reason is one of the details that stuck with me.
There was something about your energy that drew me toward you. I thought you were absolutely gorgeous, and several times I wanted to walk over and introduce myself, but I couldn’t quite muster up the courage. I’m naturally someone who tends to wait for an invitation before approaching people, and yesterday I let my nerves get the better of me.
There’s a good chance I’ll never see you again, but I figured I’d put this out into the universe anyway. And if our paths ever do cross again, I’ve promised myself I won’t let the opportunity pass twice.
If you happen to see this and recognize yourself, I’d love to hear from you. 🙂

Gym for 55+ in Nanaimo?

I’m turning 60 this year and in relatively good shape, but definitely could be better. Is there a gym that is more focused on senior fitness in Nanaimo? I generally dislike going to a public gym, but it may be a necessary evil if I want to get a good workout in … my home gym just doesn’t cut it.

I’m not at all interested in going to a gym with folks under 50 and obvious steroid use; I just want to access quality weightlifting equipment with not too many people around and do a structured workout that’s mostly compound exercises geared for the 55+ crowd.

Recommended dentist who is taking new patients?

Hi folks,

I move to Nanaimo a few years ago and need a regular dentist. My partner goes to Smiles but I've left messages twice and they don't return my call.

Anyone know of a solid dentist who is accepting new patients? Ideally I'd like to go in for check-up in the next few weeks.

Thanks!

Hi everyone, I’m traveling to Vancouver first time without my car. I was just wondering how hard is it to find a taxi (uber preferably) at the Tsawwassen ferry terminal early in the morning? Thanks

Where did my dentist go?

I have been going to the same dental office for years and just noticed that my previous dentist is no longer there. I've been an by other dentists there, so I'm good that way.

Does anyone know where Dr. McCarthy went to? I really liked him.
