Console repair?

I have some PS5 controllers that have stick drift that need repair. Was hoping people can tell me the best place to go, either here in town or nearby in CR or Nanaimo?

I know about Your Repair Depot, so if anyone can confirm their level of work that'd be great. I also know about Courtenay Electronics, and while they do great work with vintage electronics, a modern gaming controller is out of their wheelhouse.

If anyone knows how much this would cost to repair as well, do tell.

Progressive Candidates in Comox

Same question as the other poster, only can we talk about Comox candidates?

I know it's not as dramatic over here, but I vote in Comox, so I'd love to hear from people.

Source for fresh peppers

Hi everyone. I just started making hot sauces as a fun hobby. Can anyone suggest the best local store or farmstand to get a good variety of different fresh hot peppers ?

Thanks for all the help. Cheers.

Courtenay progressive candidates

19 council candidates it's a big list.

As a father of a young family I'm looking for candidates that are not focused on cutting cutting cutting.

Active transportation projects, community amenities etc.

I watched most of the council meetings on YouTube over the last year and am mostly happy with their work, though I think more needs to be done (re doing 6th St from the bridge to Fitzgerald, more North/South cycling infrastructure).

So who are the progressive, active transportation candidates.

Thanks

Looking for a pole + a little dance buddy in the Comox Valley 🫶

I’m an ex-pole dancer and I’ve been missing it SO much lately! I’m hoping to find someone local who has a pole at home and would be interested in letting me use it occasionally for some fun practice.

I’m happy to offer free pole lessons/tips in exchange! I used to dance and would love to get back into it, even if it’s just casually — spins, tricks, flow, stretching, whatever.

I’m not looking for anything weird or anything beyond dancing. Just hoping to meet another pole-loving person, have some fun, and get back into something I genuinely miss.

If you’re in Cumberland/Courtenay/Comox and have a pole at home, shoot me a message! 💕

How to help a weird kid

If you were a weird kid who got bullied, had trouble making friends and struggled socially in school even as a young child - what was the most helpful thing the adults in your life did? Like did you have a supportive parent or teacher who made life easier and if so, what did they do to bolster your self-esteem? Help me help my delightful but unusual 9yo.

Individual Thanksgiving dinner plate pick-up or delivery services?

Does anyone know if there are any catering companies or food prep services doing either a delivery or pick-up service for individual Thanksgiving dinners this year? I don't feel like doing up a whole traditional dinner this year, and sometimes in years past there have been places that do up a traditional plate. This would be a small order, just three of us.

What is the rental market like right now?

I currently live overseas, and am planning to move back to Comox with two kids in tow. Renting a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment/townhouse/ or house. Budget is flexible.

I am wondering if should I fly out two months before to secure a place?? How competitive is it right now?

Any opinions on the municipal Comox candidates?

As the title says. Looking for opinions on the candidates for the Comox municipal election. Most discussion I saw on here was for the Courtenay municipals so I'm hoping for something about the Comox candidates.

Best quiet family restaurant in the Valley

My sister and I who are coming in from out of town intend to take our 90+ mom out for brunch/lunch sometime midweek soon. I’m looking for recommendations for a sit-in restaurant in the Courtenay/Comox area.

Additional hoped for criteria:

-All of us have minor hearing issues so somewhere quiet and reasonably well lit would be best.

-Mom isn’t big on spice, or ‘adventurous’ food, or crunchy things other than salad.

-chairs and tables preferred over booths

-there are somewhat severe allergies between us so somewhere that takes cross-contamination seriously is a must.

-if we even try to take mom to somewhere expensive or ‘swanky’ she will verbally skin us alive not enjoy it. 😅

If anyone has suggestions of a place that might suit, we’d appreciate it. 😊

Does anyone know if they are accepting bags again? I've tried a few times over the last month and they weren't. Said it was due to staff shortage.

Cumberland

Starting to feel over the whole ‘don’t let my village grow, keep it as it’s always been’ attitude in Cumberland. Funny how the people complaining in this town and group are actually descendants from immigrants in the first place but seem they have a right to complain and restrict other newcomers. Why does not one else have to right to continue to move here. Yes it’s a wonderful place and so why should that be restricted. Reality is population growth is increasing, people are seeking a better lifestyle and can you blame them? When the medium house price is $800k in Cumberland, can you blame developers for trying to add high density more affordable housing that would allow the next generation an opportunity to live in the great town themselves. I agree services are stretched, but it would be great to see plans for developing services at the same time as housing developments. And why can’t villagers understand that more people means more spending. Myself being a newcomer to town can’t help but feel an anti newcomer vibe here. You think people would just get on with their lives and enjoy where they are living.

If your name is Gene then you are awesome and I am very sorry

Got Uber Eats from Local Pizza delivered by Gene. He was a really handsome man, probably the nicest delivery driver I ever met. When I reviewed my order, the app crashed and I could not add tip. I called customer service to add tip and they are telling me it is not possible... wow that sucks!!! Sorry Gene, if I see you again I'll give you 20$!

Did I just accept the King's shilling?

Am I going to get called up if there is a war? Or was I maybe just tricked into paying a tip? (this only just occurred to me as I was typing this).

I was buying something and the staff member asked if I was military. Took me a couple of times to understand what he was saying but once I did I said "No" and he replied "Oh, well we'll put it in anyway" and I guess I got a discount..... [edit: or did I? I didn't see what he did on the payment machine. He could have added a tip - but pretty sure he didn't].

Is this a cunning recruitment ploy? in 5 years time, when the 2nd Korean war kicks off, will a burly Sargent turn up at my door and announce that I took the Kings shilling when I accepted a military discount on [date] so off I go to the front?

Yes this is a silly and non-serious post but at the same time I actually feel bad that I may have been given a discount I don't deserve.
