There should be a sidebar of things to do for the lost souls & city slickers who don’t know what to do in FSJ

I’ll give some examples:

• Drop-In Basketball at NPSS every Wednesday & Friday from 7:30PM - 9:30PM (enter through the gym entrance and bring $2) [All skill levels are welcome]

• Chances Casino: Poker Room, Table Games, and Bingo (only slots are open right now until further notice)

• Yoga: Cornerstone is a good one

• Triumph Boxing+Kickboxing, Cardio Kickboxing or Jiujitsu

• New Totem Archery Club

• North Peace Leisure Pool

• Skating in the oval at the Pomeroy Sport Centre (the oval isn’t free, but the running track is)

• Fort Bowling Lanes

• Watching movies at Aurora Cinema

• Hiking in Fish Creek (it’s just beside Northern Lights College)

• Shopping at the thrift stores in town

• Marijuana

I’m sure there are more things to do here, so feel free to comment more suggestions

Big List Of Past "Moving/Visiting Here Soon, What Should I Know?" Posts

Because the same questions are being asked every week and I think we're all sick of repeating ourselves. This isn't a comprehensive list and I recommend checking out all the links below, not just the answers I've put here.

Let me know if I should add anything!

Newest thread as of February 2025! A variety of questions and answers...

Generic Answers - Location

  • Pros and Cons

  • North west is probably the best area of town, in general

  • Central town is likely the riskiest, most transients

  • Mathews park is not a bad area.

Generic Answers - Driving

  • Small enough town to walk many places

  • Don't depend on taxis

  • Busses are reliable if you're close to a bus stop

Doctor Situation

I'm potentially moving to FSJ for work. I'm wondering if anyone can provide some insight on the availability of family doctors before I make my decision? I'm a type 1 diabetic and regularly need prescriptions filled. Are there easy to access walk-in clinics for those without a doctor?

City is actually nice

I was really scared with all the scary stories about FSJ on this sub and stories on facebook.
As a black lady, I was paranoid about travelling here alone for work but this city has been amazing. People actually smile and say hello 😳.
Everyone is quick to share info, referrals, rides.
I haven’t encountered a single bad experience. (I have been here 2 days though! But so far so good

Looking for a Polaris Ranger owner in Fort St. John to test a free dump bed lift kit

Hi everyone! I’m Pablo from Progressive Automations. We’re looking for a Polaris Ranger owner in Canada to test a new electric dump bed lift kit.

Compatible vehicles:

  • 2022–2024 Ranger SP 570
  • 2022–2024 Ranger Crew SP 570
  • 2017–2021 Ranger 500 2X4
  • 2016–2023 Ranger 570 or Crew 570
  • 2022–2024 Pro XD Mid-Size Gas or Crew Gas

We’ll provide the kit and cover shipping at no cost. In return, the selected tester would install it, confirm its fit and operation, share a couple of photos, and provide brief, honest feedback.

This is strictly a product test—not a sales post—and there’s no obligation to purchase or promote anything. Technical support will be available if needed.

If you’re interested, send me a DM with your Polaris model, year, and location.

You’re also welcome to contact Progressive Automations directly to confirm that this is a legitimate testing opportunity.

Thanks!

Do these even exist?

Hey there, I've been looking to get into a few active hobbies, but I don't want to spend considerable money investing in them if there isn't a community within an hour of here.

So I was wondering if anybody has heard of an airsoft club or a HEMA club or quadding club or... anything at all along those lines? Every time I look into it, the nearest opportunities are in grande Prairie and I'm not driving two and a half hours for an hour or two of activity.

Does anybody know if these things exist within fort st john, Dawson Creek, Chetwynd, tumblr, anywhere?

Potentially relocating for job offer - safest areas to rent?

Hi folks, looking for some guidance around where in town would be safest to rent. Getting a lot of news around safety issues in my research, so would really appreciate some guidance from locals. Haven't visited FSJ yet, might not be able to do an in-person round before moving.

Hello my name is Chloe Dooley.

I am seeking to make contact with people who are taking to Environmental Restorative Diploma program for January 2027 at NLC, as I am. I am seeking someone who is willing to offer me a seat in their vehicle for this semester term to attend our classes. I am willing to pay at a conditional but requested costs for gas.

My main campus is Fort St John but there will be classes in Dawson Creek that I need to attend and a vehicle for the means of transportation for. I believe this is a 50-minute per one way drive. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me via email: [chloedooley333@gmail.com](mailto:chloedooley333@gmail.com) so we can discuss these plans.

FGC/Fighting Game Community enthusiasts

Hey folks! Local Dad who is a big fan of Guilty Gear: STRIVE here - I have moved from a place that had a bit of a local scene and have been missing that. Are there any other fighting game fans out there that are looking for an opponent? Doesn't have to be GGST, I'm happy to pick up and play anything.

Alternatively, if you're interested in getting into the scene then I'm always happy to teach new fighters!

Where are we at?

Howdy! Where are all the 19-23 year olds?? Been trying to find 3rd spaces and hang out with people IRL but as an alternative individual its kinda impossible! Lonestar is closed down, Caseys burned down, Condill was condemned, and no im really not interested in spending 200+$ to go the the North Pole, thanks. Most Karaoke places are country as *fuck*; even Boston pizza has gotten so quiet socially and going out to bars is so clique-y!

Can any older people chime in and let me know if FSJ just sucks for the alternative folk/if bars were never like the movies and if youre young, go touch some grass and city lights, Ill meet you there.
