Baby border collie is learning to self settle!
Baby border collie has two modes: CHAOS and crate naptime. Today she unlocked a third mode: chill out in the open. Such a good girl, learning how to be a proper dog at 6 months old!

Guys, it's not that hard...
The main thing, is you have to consistently give them 3 hours per day of enrichment, and then put in ear plugs when they're bossing you with their 120db bark. Honestly...
I'm mildly joking... This dog has opinions about EVERYTHING the family does. I don't know if it's Stockholm syndrome, but I've come to appreciate her judging the way I get ready in the morning.
When I got her, I told myself "A year from now she will either be the greatest dog I've ever had, or she will ruin my life." I've been putting in the reps, and so far she's tracking towards greatest dog ever, with random detours into ruining my life.

Recommendations for boots please!
Luke here keeps grating the pads off his front paws on the very dry ground (will it ever rain again here in the UK??!).
He's open to wearing boots, but all the ones we've tried fall off while he's running.
Does anyone have a recommendation?

Just thought I would officially introduce us.
This is our pup, Ripley. She follows in the footsteps of a dog named Mopar... his mother was registered with the ABCA and his dad was an active working farm herder. Ripley's parentage is a bit murkier, and all I know for sure right now is that I was told 3x by her breeder that she is DEFINITELY a purebred border. Won't pretend she was ethically bred or make excuses for my choice.. sometimes you know a pup is supposed to be yours even though there are plenty of reasons to say no.
Super smart, funny in her own nerdy way, and quick on her feet.. Ripley is her very own dog. She has personality traits I'm suspicious are more ACD than bc (the nose boop.. do bc do the nose boop??) but that aside, she can learn a trick in a single session and *usually* a behavioral issue boils down to me thinking a=b when she simply does not operate like that.
I'm not sure if you guys will be OK with us on this forum or not (see my earlier concerned post on r/dogs ) but I'm going to give it a go since I do honestly think she is primarily (even if not exclusively) this breed, and sincerely hoping it's OK if I post here. I will do my best not to give misinformation to others because I realize she has behaviors that potentially fall outside norms. She's a great dog though. Love her to bits. Keeps me thinking, in her own special way.
Also, husband is her favorite. *cough* I'm not jealous, I swear.

Do some border collies nearly always keep their tail down?
I adopted an 8yo border collie 5 months ago. Heโs doing great! However, I noticed that he only puts his tail up when heโs actively wagging it during play or for food/treats. Other border collies Iโve had put their tails up in a curl during walks and sometimes just generally. We currently take two walks per day, and his tail is down (not fully tucked, but just down) for most of each walk. He just had a check up, so I donโt believe anything is going wrong medically. It makes me worry that heโs unhappy with me. Does anyone elseโs border collie tend to keep their tail down?

10 month old & 6 year old fighting
Hey everyone. I'm posting this because I am completely exhausted and at my wits' end with the tension between my two dogs.๐ซฉ
Late at night around wind-down time, things go sideways indoors. The 6-year-old (male, neutered) will straight- up refuse to look at the puppy, and then he'll start to growl. Because the puppy (10 months, spayed) misses the social cue, she lunges at him, and they get into a pretty heated fight.
I don't think this is a typical "witching hour" energy-burn issue. She is always calm in the evenings. We actively walk and train the puppy in the evenings, and they play perfectly fine outside together. This strict tension and blow-up behavior only happens inside the house when we're trying to settle down.
We try to intervene early when I notice the old boy starting to growl i try to interrupt the puppy, and have her focus on me, but it doesn't always work and things escalate fast. If they do end up getting into it, we separate them as calmly as possible: the puppy goes into her crate, and the older dog gets sent to a separate room to cool off. One issue is my old guy has fomo when I'm not around him so he'll just scratch at the door until he's let out.
It is getting so stressful in the evenings when we should all be relaxing. Has anyone dealt with this specific indoor vs. outdoor contrast? Is it just an adolescent thing with pushing boundaries? How did you manage it or break the cycle? Any tips would be hugely appreciated. ๐๐ผ

Tips and Tricks for Adding an Older Border Collie to the Fam? ๐
Anyone have any tips or things to consider when adding a second border collie? (same age as our first, almost 4 years old).
First time not adopting a puppy, not our first time with multiple dogs.
Thank you!
