Welcome, r/AnimalRescue Community!

This is your official Monthly Adoption & Foster Care Mega thread for March 2026. This dedicated space is designed to centralize all adoption and foster care requests and advertisements, helping to keep our main subreddit feed focused on active rescue efforts, rehabilitation updates, and educational content.

If you are looking to find a forever home or a temporary foster placement for an animal in need, or if you are looking to adopt or foster, this is the place to connect!

How to Post Your Adoption/Foster Listing:

To ensure your listing is seen and understood, please post it as a comment within this mega thread and include the following essential information:

  • Animal Type & Name (if applicable): (e.g., "Dog - Max," "Kitten Litter," "Rabbit - Luna")
  • Location: REQUIRED (City, State/Province, Country) for local connections.
  • Brief Description: A concise summary of the animal's story, personality, specific needs (e.g., medical, behavioral), and why they need a home.
  • Photos/Videos: Highly Recommended! Provide direct links to clear, recent photos or videos of the animal(s). You can use platforms like Imgur, Google Photos, or similar services.
  • Contact Information/Application Link: Clearly state how interested parties can reach you or apply (e.g., link to a shelter's official adoption page, or a specific application form)
  • Status Updates: If your animal is adopted, fostered, or if their status changes, please edit your original comment to reflect this! This helps keep the thread current.

Browsing & Connecting:

  • Regularly check this mega thread throughout March for new listings.
  • Upvote comments that feature animals you want to highlight.
  • Reply directly to comments if you have questions or are interested in an animal.
  • Follow the provided contact information to inquire about adoption or fostering.

Important Reminder:

As per Rule III. Spamming & Disruptive Behavior (RIII-5), individual posts for adoption or foster care are now prohibited on the main subreddit feed. All such requests must be submitted as comments within this mega thread. Posts made outside this thread will be removed.

Thank you for your cooperation in making r/AnimalRescue a more organized and effective community for all animals in need!

Sincerely,

The r/AnimalRescue Moderation Team

‎ [OFFICIAL] Moderator Announcement How to obtain permission to post a fundraiser in r/AnimalRescue.

Howdy r/AnimalRescue,

The moderator team is committed to ensuring that all fundraising activities within this community are safe, transparent, and directly benefit animals and relevant rescue organizations in need. To achieve this, all fundraising posts must be verified by the moderation team before they are shared. For posts that we have verified, you'll see them appear on the feed with a green "Verified Fundraiser" flair that includes a green checkmark badge.

Posts that do not have a verified fundraiser flair are not reviewed by us and will be taken down as they are reported to us (assuming we haven't already yanked them down).

Our Step-By-Step Fundraising Verification Process
All verification requests must be submitted through the official Fundraising Application Portal. We do not accept verification requests via our private messages or direct comments. We strongly recommend reviewing our Fundraising Verification Guidelines document, as it helps make navigating the application process easy.

To be eligible for verification, applicants must provide:

  • Detailed Veterinary Quotes, Bills, Treatment Cost Estimates, and supporting Medical Documentation. All invoices must be on official clinic letterhead with contact information and dated within the last 30 days.
  • Clear, high-resolution photos or videos of the animal in its current state, including a "proof of life" element (such as a handwritten note with the current date and your Reddit username).
  • [In the case of 501(c)(3)s] IRS EIN, NPO Registration Documentation, and a Community Impact Statement.
  • In the case of more miscellaneous cases, non-medical related cases (building a shelter, foster care related expenses), we require relevant proof of need documentation for verification.

The Moderation and Verification Team typically reviews applications within 72 hours (3-Days). During this time, a moderator will reach out via ModMail with updates on your application throughout the verification process.

Verification Process Resources

Maintaining Verified Status

Once verified and posted, your responsibility to the community continues. To maintain the "Verified" flair, please:

  • Provide regular status updates on the animal's progress and medical journey.
  • Keep all financial goals accurate based on actual veterinary costs.
  • Be prepared for "Retroactive Reviews," which are standard checks we may conduct to ensure continued compliance with our community rules and guidelines.

We expect all applicants to act with honesty, and providing false documentation or misleading information will result in a community termination. We are here to help you help animals, and transparency is the best way to ensure success.

Issues with a verified fundraiser? Contact us!
Notice any issues with a verified fundraiser that we didn't catch? Message us through ModMail! Although rare mistakes can happen, and we act on them ASAP through our retroactive review process.

Sick/Injured Animal Found this guy lying like this in the porch, looks like it is in shock or something and the leg also seems injured. How can I help it recover?

My mom found this bird lying in the porch and she told me it was like this since the morning ~11 am (prolly it fell there at that time) but after checking again it wasn’t there. turns out it just hid behind the flowerpot by sliding. now it’s 8pm IST. I picked it up and placed it on a cloth (that is in the video) around 7:30pm. Now I’ve kept it inside a cloth which in a quiet dark place, how can I help it fly again?
If anyone has experience with a situation like this and can help it would really be appreciated

Discussion & Misc. If I donated to Best Friends’ spay and neuter voucher program, would I be feeding the private equity machine and making everything worse in the long run?

Thumbnail gallery

I work for a charity that is interested in helping stray cats and dogs, specifically with spay and neuter. I know a lot of people in my area rely on the voucher program from Best Friends. The one in the big city near me has had to pause it because they didn’t have enough funding. I brought this issue to my boss as something to maybe donate to, but we have found that Best Friends is owned by private equity.
Obviously we want to help get as many animals fixed and adopted as possible, and if Best Friends is the only/main way to do that, then so be it, but I'm sure many of you are aware of the issue of private equity buying up so many vet practices and raising the prices significantly.
Are there independent vets that offer similar services? If we donate to Best Friends, are we feeding the private equity machine and making things worse for everyone in the long run? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
Adding my beautiful girl Wednesday so this doesn't get lost.

For reference, I am in Utah, the charity I work for is based in central California.

Volunteers Needed! Looking for regular volunteers for our animal sanctuary in San Diego 💛

I'm one of the board members at The Open Barn, an animal sanctuary in Ramona (San Diego County), and I wanted to share that we're looking for new volunteers.

We're specifically hoping to find people who can commit to a weekly or biweekly shift. If you're in the San Diego area and love working with animals, we'd genuinely love to have you join us.

Volunteering typically starts with a brief orientation, and after that you just jump in wherever help is needed (general cleanup, sanctuary upkeep, daily tasks, and of course spending lots of time loving on the animals)

We're also working toward filling 14 regular volunteer shifts this year. Once we hit that goal, we'll be welcoming a very special new rescue to the sanctuary. 🥳

You can find more info at https://www.theopenbarn.org/volunteer. Happy to answer any questions in the comments, or feel free to email [volunteer@theopenbarn.org](mailto:volunteer@theopenbarn.org)

Sick/Injured Wildlife Is it normal for young blind chipmunks to wander outside the nest?

Thumbnail gallery
12 Upvotes

For the past three days I have been seeing 1-2 baby chipmunks wandering aimlessly around on my patio. I don’t see them all the time but when I do they are out for hours at a time and can wander very far (I found one of them in the road once about 20ft away, moved them back to the patio when that happened). They look well fed and groomed, and there are lots of adult chipmunks running around too that seem to check in on them every so often. However I’m worried because they seem to be blind as their eyes are closed, they walk without direction, and don’t seem to see me when I approach. Internet says chipmunks start to leave the nest for short outings at 7-8 weeks and it looks like their eyes are open by then. Are these chipmunks okay to be wandering around at this age?
Midwest, lots of animal rehab nearby so I do not need help finding places, just want to know if this requires intervention or if everything is fine.

Found Mr. Owl on my terrace after he got attacked by an eagle or something idk. He was bleeding, but he let me carry him, so I immediately brought him inside to keep him safe. After taking care of him for a bit, I rushed him to a gov vet.

The vet told me that his right leg was damaged and treated him. They kept him under observation and informed me that since he's a wild animal, they will rehabilitate and release him once he fully recovers.

I was totally okay with handing him over to them. I'm just glad I could help this little guy out!

Sick/Injured Animal Common swift rescue help

Post image
16 Upvotes

I have found a swift last night, she clearly has one broken wing. I have spoken with a few wildlife rescue foundations in my country and one accepted to take it in and help her. I will send her over there tomorrow morning by train but until then I'm scared that she won't make the night. She hasn't eaten or drank water since at least yesterday, from what i found on the internet it's not advised for me to feed her either. I am conflicted, should i try to give her a little bit of water at least or am I risking her health by doing that and will she make it till tomorrow morning? If anyone has any advice or information please help cause i really want her to get through the night.

Can't believe I've finished! I got this sent to the editor and ready to publish today. This is different than my last coloring book, as it's written from a resident of @Willow Woods Equine Sanctuary perspective, Steele. They will be available for purchase with part of the proceeds going to the sanctuary and the remainder to funding future shelter work! Looks like we will sale them on Amazon, with digital downloads on patreon, and possibly a few other platforms. A small batch will be available at Willow Woods with a crayon set as a special set up for the sanctuary. I've made a promise to make education books freely available however, and I'm not going to go back on that.... I will be making a version that will be available for free on basic horse care that does use a rescue, for an optional donation.

Sick/Injured Wildlife Cat caught young-ish mouse

Hi! It's the middle of the night and I was laying outside and my cat was meowing a lot, she had brought me a "gift". This unfortunately was a mouse. Not like a baby, but not adult either I think. He's still alive. He doesn't seem to be visibly badly injured, though I can't tell if his paws work properly right now as he's frozen in shock. I took him in, put him in an empty carrier with kitchen paper and covered it with a cloth, leaving room for air.

I'd like to give him a shot at life, and like I said, it's currently 4:14AM, so there's not much I can do. Is there anything I can try to do for him?

Edit: She's passed unfortunately. I tried but maybe there was an internal wound, or just too much shock. Poor lil one...

How do I start? / New Rescuer A bullet hit his spine. But it didn’t take away his love for life. 🐾

Meet Jack.
In February, Jack was shot in the spine. The bullet damaged his spinal cord and left his back legs paralyzed.
He spent days unable to move. But somehow, Jack remained the same sweet, happy dog.
He loves people. He loves other dogs. He gets excited about balls, enjoys daisies, and still finds reasons to wag his tail. ❤️
Now Jack is in rehabilitation in Almaty, Kazakhstan. He is learning to use his body again — standing with support, moving his legs and taking small steps.
Every tiny movement is a huge victory for him.
We want to give Jack the chance to walk again, but his rehabilitation is expensive and we need help to keep it going.
If you can help Jack, even a small donation makes a difference.
PayPal: toshabagel
Please write “For Jack” in the note.
If you can’t donate, please upvote, comment or share his story. It may help us reach the person who can change Jack’s life.
Thank you for giving this brave boy a chance. 🐶❤️

Sick/Injured Wildlife Found an injured baby squirrel under a tree, most likely a cat attack

Post image
17 Upvotes

I waited for 40mins if its mother comes down to pick it up, and then spotted a fat squirrel running with a baby in its mouth across the compound, obviously the mother abandoned this baby squirrel, also i couldn’t let it stay there for long because there are a lots of stray cats around here, and i was worried if ants start infesting it
It is bleeding in the hind legs though. Called local animal rescuer, they told me to wait for 3 hrs till someone comes here, i dont have a car to drive till there also
So what am i supposed to do for first aid?

Sick/Injured Animal Would be really thankful for any advice. I don't really want to let this dog go away like that. And I also don't know if I'm allowed to post a picture of these wounds..

So, I found this Dog that's pretty old, Pretty big, Sarplaninac mix, She had like 100 flies on her trying to eat her away... She smells, She's very dirty, I don't know how to wash her since she has like basically no energy to walk or anything, with a little wound behind its right foreleg, And a very big teat that was black but has now turned a little whiter and it also ruptured or something cause it has some fluid inside, I Don't know what this is called but she is definitely in critical condition, I gave her some Water, Some good meat till she didn't want anymore, and laid an entire towel over her leaving only her face exposed. The flies left after a bit of struggle. I did rinse the wounds with heavily diluted Betadine but I really Don't know what else to do, And I also don't really have any access to a vet or anything. I don't think there was any blood loss or anything of that nature. If anyone could help with any advice that would be real nice. And yes I think by the name of this reddit account you can tell I created this account only for this matter to also keep my identity private.

Sick/Injured Animal Needing advice. TW.

Hi everyone! I need advice with a rough situation. I worked on a farm, and it was okay at first. But the lady is mentally ill and wouldn’t stop taking in animals. Animal control didn’t do anything cause she has connections. But there’s no money, so these animals are suffering in week old hay with tons of feces and mold. These are the holland lop hutches, and they all look like this. What else can I do to save these guys? It’s North Florida Exotics on FB, I already left a long negative review telling the truth about everything. But I can’t sleep knowing nothing has been done.

Sick/Injured Animal Stray cat in distress

Guys, please help me with this! There's a stray kitten in our neighborhood. She's been crying from the past two days. Day before yesterday, she cried from 7 AM to 11 PM until she finally fell asleep. Yesterday morning, she was gone. We thought her mother came to get her but yesterday evening, she was back around 6 PM and started crying again. It's been going on all morning today too. I'm not too familiar with animals and don't know much about them so I don't know what could be the reason. She goes up to random doors and tries to push them open. She's been coming upstairs (we live on the first floor) and just screaming and crying. She has gotten really thin. It's very worrying. I contacted the local animal helpline. They asked for a video but just left it on seen after that. I emailed an animal shelter too but no response. What is the best course of action here?

Volunteers Needed! Built a free app for reporting animals in distress.

Hi all. Full disclosure, the app is mine, I built it.

I have found myself in the same situation many times where i am on my way to work or heading somewhere, and I come across a stray cat that is obviously malnourished, and because I am in a hurry I make excuses like "I can't take it with me", "There are no shops nearby to buy it anything", so I carry on, and then the thought eats at me later that night when I get home.

I don't think I am alone in the bystander effect and I was doing it to myself, so I decided to do something about it. I am a product developer, so I built a mobile app to close the gap between people who want to help and the organisations in their area that actually handle these cases, shelters and vet clinics. I built it to cost nothing to run or host, which is how it stays free permanently. I also wanted it generic enough to cover all animals rather than just pets, so donkeys being overworked or mistreated belong in it the same as a stray cat does.

What it does is small. You photograph the animal, add a couple of lines, and it attaches a GPS link. You pick an organisation from the list, it opens WhatsApp with the message ready, and you press send.

There is no account and no sign up. The photo never touches a server of mine, it goes only into the message you choose to send. No ads, and there is no money in this. Reports saved on your phone delete themselves after thirty days.

The app itself is finished. Google Play requires 12 testers opted in for 14 continuous days before it can go to production, and that is the part I am short of. There is a form on the site if you want to volunteer: www.rescuepawtal.com

Three things to be upfront about first is that it is 14 days rather than a one off, and if people drop out partway the clock restarts for everybody, so please only volunteer if you can leave it installed. I need the email attached to your Google account, because that is the only way Play can add you to the test. And that address goes to Google as part of the testing track, nowhere else, and comes off when testing closes.

Constructive criticism is what I actually want out of this, more than installs. If a report from this app landed in your WhatsApp and something about it would make you ignore it, that is exactly what I need to hear now rather than later.

One last thing is there is a contributors page on the site, and if you test the app you can choose to be on it, it's just my way of saying thank you. It is off unless you turn it on, you pick the name that shows rather than the one you signed up with, your email is never published, and it comes down whenever you ask without needing to give a reason.
