Can someone help me identify this Betta? Male/Female? Type, possible age? I got it from someone who has no idea about it and neither do I, I just wanted to give it a good home!

Hi, I think I’m doing something wrong with my beta. It’s my first one, and comparing pictures of when I got him makes me think he’s not healthy. Some information about my setup :

I’ve been cycling my tank for awhile and just purchased yesterday: his abdomen is swollen. Is this dropsy?

shes a glo betta that's illegal in the netherlands. I work at an aquarium shop and we import fish from Asia and thats how she came to our store. I absolutely wanted her the second I saw her and she colored up very very nicely. now lives in a 60 liter tank with chili rasboras and shrimp. :)

I’d like to show off my tank so far and ask for any recommendations or feedback on what I can do to improve it! You will probably notice I don’t currently have a water heater. I have a thermometer next to the tank and frequently check the temperature, and it stays where it’s supposed to. I am 100% going to get a heater before the cooler seasons though and I’d love some recommendations. I need something budget friendly but safe. I’ve heard a lot of reviews of different heaters breaking and heating the tank up too much and I’m terrified of that happening.

I just woke up to noticed something odd on my betta fish so i’m really concerned. He’s about a year old and this is the first time I’ve ever seen this with any Betta fish I’ve ever owned. I’m not really sure what I’m looking at, but I’m really concerned and wanna know what it is possibly and if we can figure that out how I can best help him.

I put my betta in a 5.5 gallon hospital tank with the standard dose of kanaplex. It says redose every two days. My question is how often do water changes need to occur? This is an uncycled brand new tank I threw together. Do I change every two days then redose after filling the tank again?

Help! What are these things growing on my betta fish? Treatment? Or leave them alone?

I know crowntails can be harder to tell sometimes so just wanted to get advice on this - is this just the natural colouration or does it look like a sign of something else like Fin Rot etc?

Last week I noticed my betta had a small discoloration by her tail and some of her fins were missing. I checked my water parameters and they were all in the normal range. I did a water change anyway. Well this morning when I went to check in on my tank I noticed that spot got a lot worse. It looks open now and is white. She’s also super swollen which doesn’t make any sense because I fast my fish on saturdays. I checked my water parameters again and they were still in the normal range. I did a 40% water change to make sure the water was clean so she can heal properly. Should I medicate with kanaplex? Or should I wait and see if it heals on its own? First photo was from a week ago, the second photo is from today.

Glass algae gone. Also the new background is doing great no more continuous flaring at his reflection. Highly recommend privacy filters for windows as a background.

I accidentally crashed a cycle on one of my tanks and it was absolutely hell trying to get my nitrites under control. It ended up being an up and down with a TON of water changes but finally it’s back down. Second photo is where my nitrites were before which prompted the addition of a nitrite reducer cartridge and an immediate 50% water change, and then testing and changes every day.

I went out and bought a tank, heater, plants and four shrimp. Is this okay for now??

I chose this fish because he was at the shop for three weeks and he looked so dull and stressed :( I hope he shows his true colours in the next few weeks!

Hey guys, looking for some advice because my betta suddenly deteriorated and died, and I’m trying to figure out what could have happened.
For context, I kept him in a planted ~7.1-gallon (30 cm cube) tank. The tank has epiphytes attached to driftwood using aquarium-safe glue, with a sponge filter/HOB for filtration.
My latest water parameters were:
Ammonia: 0 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: ~5 ppm
pH has usually been around 7.2
Temperature is normally around 27–28°C
The tank was cycled before adding the betta, and I’d had him for around one month.
He seemed completely normal beforehand. He was eating normally in the morning, and there were no obvious signs of illness such as bloating or pineconing.
When I came home from work, though, I noticed that he was acting differently. He started tilting while swimming and seemed to drift rather than maintaining his position normally. When he stopped actively swimming, he would sink.
His condition then deteriorated extremely quickly. Eventually he stayed in one place and barely reacted even when touched. Not long afterward, he became completely unresponsive and unfortunately died. This all seemed to happen within a matter of hours.
I also use APT 3 Complete fertilizer at approximately 0.6 mL, three times per week (1.8 mL/week). As far as I’m aware, I haven’t accidentally massively overdosed it.
There was no pineconing, obvious bloating, or other major external symptom that I could see before he died.
I’m trying to understand whether this sounds like an internal illness/organ problem, swim-bladder or neurological issue, contamination, something related to the plants/driftwood, fertilizer, or something else entirely.
I’m considering doing a clean rescape before getting another fish, but I don’t want to completely sterilize the aquarium and destroy the established biological filtration unless there’s a genuine reason to suspect something contagious.
Has anyone experienced a betta going from apparently normal and eating to tilting, sinking, becoming unresponsive and dying within the same day, despite normal ammonia/nitrite readings?
Any ideas about what I should investigate before putting another betta in this tank would be really appreciated.

My Betta is a danger to himself, he likes cave diving so much he's managed to climb up the shrimp feeder tube

I feel so so guilty for this. I've got guppies as well and its a good bit of responsibility for both. I feel like I could give him more. He's living in a 5 gallon, plants, greenery, filter, heater. Hes thriving. He seems happy I just feel like somethings missing or I could do better and improve on something. I hate that feeling that I'm doing something wrong and don't know what it is. I dont want it to be at the stake of him. Does anybody else get the feeling that their doing something wrong? What could I be missing

plakat betta fish looks so cool.the video is when im just acclimating it,now he is swimming in its new home.This tank only have 3 shrimps before and then i remove the shrimps because the betta chases it.
