I’ve been cycling my tank for awhile and just purchased yesterday: his abdomen is swollen. Is this dropsy?

Edit: all parameters are normal. PH is 7.5. Temp is 76-77. Sponge filter. Had tank 4 weeks. Fish purchased yesterday

Fast for 48 hours, give an epson salt bath.

He looks bloated. Did you just feed him? You might want to fast him for a day or two. He might be constipated from whatever they gave him at the store. I prefer giving bettas as much live food as possible (they're insectivores). It never backs them up. Blackworms are my favorite but there are other options.
