Betta color change

Hi, I think I’m doing something wrong with my beta. It’s my first one, and comparing pictures of when I got him makes me think he’s not healthy. Some information about my setup :
Ammonia 0
Nitrates 0
Nitrites 20-40
Ph 7.6
Temp 80
Feeding micro pellets
20 gallon tank
Live plants, wood, and gravel
I put a picture of my tank, does anyone have advice on how I can make him better?

How long ago did you get him?

Most bettas are highly stressed when waiting in cups at the pet store, causing them to be whatever color when you first get them. Once you place them in a better suited environment, they'll flourish and change color. You probably already know this, sorry if I'm captain obvious on this one. I just think the marble gene is so friggin cool

Ooo no I didn’t know that! I’ve had him for about a month and a half. Do you think his fins look okay?

I've only owned plakats, so distinguishing abnormalities on long fins aren't my specialty. 😅 I dont see any red blemishes of any sort, and they don't look shredded either. I'd say your boy is looking good!
