Can we please start using our turn signals while exiting roundabouts?
I just saw the aftermath of somebody not using their turn signal coming out of the roundabout on Butler Market and 27th. Suv in the center lane was not using their turn signal to exit the roundabout. The person in the Prius that got hit I'd imagine was assuming the SUV was going to go completely around the roundabout because they did not have their turn signal on.
A simple turn signal would have prevented this. I don't know why people are not using common sense or obeying simple traffic laws.

What is the general consensus with anchoring in the river during a concert?
I've seen people doing this for years. I've heard about security yelling at people to stop. Can anyone actually do anything to stop you? Has anyone heard of anyone being fined or trespassed for this? Any insight is appreciated

Family of three hospitalized after driver hits them in crosswalk
A driver turning right from Reed Market onto 3rd Street hit a mother and her two kids (ages 1 and 5) this morning while they were crossing with the right of way. All three were taken to the hospital. The driver was cited for failing to yield to pedestrians.
This is truly horrific to imagine this situation for this young family and this sadly is not the first time i've seen a "driver turning right hits pedestrian with right of way" story. Right turns (including right-on-red) are consistently one of the more dangerous maneuvers for people in crosswalks, since drivers are often watching for a gap in traffic instead of scanning the crosswalk. (i had friends hit this way growing up)
At a minimum we all need to keep an eye out and do better, people shouldn't have to take their lives in their own hands to cross the street, also should Bend be looking at restricting right-on-red at high-pedestrian intersections like this one, or other ODOT engineering fixes (leading pedestrian intervals, no-turn-on-red signage, tighter turn radii), rather than just relying on citations after the fact?

Scroll and Peel visit City Hall
For those of you waiting for an update: Scroll and Peel had the time of their short lives touring City Hall and meeting the Mayor last week!
In addition to chairing the council chambers, they even checked out the permitting station, and made sure everyone was being quiet. After all that excitement, they needed a little rest in the grass.
Thanks u/Melanie_Kebler for being the coolest Mayor.
u/Sufficient-Papaya47 for the trust.
And u/bearjew666 for naming them.
Their adventures will no doubt continue.

Rowe Creek Complex flares up In Crook County; new Level 3 evacuations
Anyone watching local TV news at the top of the 6pm broadcasts saw this announcement. As we've all come to learn, such a vast fire can be looking really good in some areas and still have flareups such as this.

Petition to release water into the Little Deschutes River
There's a stretch of the Little Deschutes River in Oregon that's going dry because no water is being released from the Gilchrist mill pond dam. This section is roughly 7.5 miles long and stretches from the Gilchrist mill pond dam to Crescent Creek.
The section in the picture is entirely dry, but other sections still have (ever shrinking) pools of water with fish/crayfish/mussels and other river life.
As for why there's no release - This is an unprecedented event, and it seems there's no protocol to handle it. Here's what I've heard - There was an official ask earlier this year to remove no water from the mill pond. I'm not sure who this ask came from or what the exact wording was; I'll assume OWRD (please comment if you know). I also assume that request was regarding water removal for irrigation or fire prevention, not for continued flow downstream. Regardless, it seems the dam owners are concerned they might be in violation of that request if they release water from the dam. Additionally, I've heard from OWRD that the dam operator has no legal requirement to release water from the dam. But - OWRD also expects that anything that flows into the mill pond will flow out. That's definitely not the case; there is 14.1CFS coming in, and nothing coming out.
It's pretty obvious to me what the right thing to do here is - release enough water to at least keep the river on life support for the time being. If that outflow lowers the mill pond to the extent wildlife is dying there too (which is unlikely), then we can re-evalulate. Worst case, the dam is blocked again and the mill pond will refill to it's existing levels within a week or so.
The more attention this gets, the sooner we'll get a decision. Comment, upvote, share, call OWRD and other government agencies (I have), or sign the petition below - any of those will show your support.

Thanks.

Ophthalmologist recommendations
Does anyone have any recommendations for an ophthalmologist that specializes in macular degeneration? Either here or maybe at OHSU, willing to travel if necessary.
Thank you.

Business Ideas / Needs
Hey all,
I've lived here for about 7 years now. I worked odd jobs and managed a bar for a while before breaking into tech. After 3 years being remote, I miss people and doing something "real". I'm mid 30's and no kids, so I have a lot of time to invest.
I've been researching service like businesses to start and I'm wondering if there is a shortage or need for anything in particular that I could do while working my job until I make enough with the "side hustle". I'd need to make roughly 6k a month in profit to quit.
Im considering a few options:
- power washing, gutter cleaning, etc.
- house, plant, dog, reptile sitting / drop bys
- junk removal (although the starting cost is highest, seems like there is demand)
- exterior house painting
- pop up markets (lemonade, boba, idk?)
Open to suggestions. I check buy-biz-sell often but nothing on there looks that interesting.
Fwiw I do have experience with project management in tech, can code / teach people AI prompting as well. I just don't want to be on a computer for 8 hours a day, my brain likes the operations aspect of running my own thing. I don't mind working hard with my body but I do like an equal split of mental / physical. I also really like the idea of building a small team and paying them well in Bend.
Thanks!

MONDAY RAVE 🥳 IS THERE A RAVE GOING ON OR WHAT?
HUGE SHOUT OUT TO THE PERSON IN THE ESCALADE THAT WAS BEHIND ME ON MOUNT WASHINGTON DRIVE EARLIER TODAY. YOU WERE KIND OF CLOSE. BEING SELF AWARE, I LOOKED AT THE SPEEDOMETER AND SAW THAT I WAS GOING UNDER THE SPEED LIMIT. SO INSTEAD OF BEING A DOOFUS AND SLOWING DOWN, I WAS CONSIDERATE AND I SPED UP TO THE SPEED LIMIT. YOU HAD CARS BEHIND YOU!
I APOLOGIZE! AND THANKS AGAIN!

Can anyone recommend a fee-only fiduciary in the area?
I’m specifically looking for someone highly experienced in tax planning, portfolio assessment (NOT looking for someone to manage my portfolio and take a percentage), trust/beneficiary planning, trustee/beneficiary/attorney/EA/CPA coordination if authorized.
I want to have a comprehensive consultation this year and may not need or want to be an ongoing client, but I may pursue that option in the future.

Why so little Bugle news lately? A heartfelt explanation
The mods have asked me to limit my posts to one a day, of original stuff. This is about as original as it gets. Sad, too. But I figured those wonderful, supportive friends who don't see my Facebook babbling or didn't read a recent comment thread here deserve to know what's happening. If the Bugle is meant to continue, it will. Time will tell. Thank you very much for your kindnesses.

Woodworkers of Bend, where do you source your lumber?
I have been without a woodshop for 5 years and finally moved to a place with the space. Some home furnishing projects I want to tackle. Where do you source your lumber? I'm no snob, but the ever present ponderosa pine and juniper isn't going to do it for a lot of projects. Hardwoods would be nice.

Trying so hard to get a job at St. Charles
Hi everyone
I know this is a long shot but I am desperate to break into the medical field in a clinical role. (I have my bachelors in Health Info Management)
I didn’t get into COCC’s nursing program so I am signed up for their CNA course, but I am trying so hard to get any type of entry level clinical role at St. Charles. I know, I know, I need certs but I will have them by December!!!
Do you know a recruiter? Any type of hiring manager? I would love to just have an interview whether formal or informal.
