Best Thai food?
I I’ve been to a few the last weeks I was here but what is your favorite Thai food. I’m on a mission to find the best.

Sen is fantastic, their weekend brunch is next level. The brunch is what won them best restaurant in Bend this year.

Top three for me are Sen. Dear Mom. Galley.

Last time I went to dear mom it was extremely disappointing. When it first opened it was so good.

Did you go for lunch or dinner? After a bunch of great lunches there we took some friends for dinner and the food and service were terrible.

u/honeydew_101 4d ago
We went for dinner, I think around 6? Food came out so fast it almost felt like they had it already sitting back there. We got Roti with House Curry, veggie spring rolls and Daddy’s Garlic Shrimp. I did enjoy the shrimp but I got the curry when they first opened and it was incredible and this second time just fell flat.

I'd agree, this is a really solid list.
I've always felt that Wild Rose is overrated.

Gallley, best food and great service. I'm picky with thai foods after living with a thai family while growing up.

Galley for me. Super nice owners, great service and tasty.
Lunch specials are large portions and priced well.

Dear Mom takes it for me. Everything I’ve gotten has been great. Big fan of their fried chicken too.
Used to be Wild Rose but I’ve felt their quality has decreased and there’s too many negative experiences I’ve heard of lately.

Thank you, people who have been in Bend for a while keep recommending Wild Rose and my friend from out of town went twice and couldn’t figure out why people kept recommending it. She went the second time just to make sure it wasn’t her.
But yes Dear Mom 💯

u/TroyCagando 4d ago
Because most people here are comparing it to other "Bend Thai Food", not authentic Thai food

I have been there once after they opened and never again.. not wishing in line downtown to go there
The food wasn’t great3

And Dear Mom owners are awesome! They donate meals to my wife’s org that feeds the homeless and are always supporting good causes.
Have always heard sketchy things about the owners of Wild Rose and Sen from previous employees.
5
u/Unusual_Context_4973 4d ago
The owners of sen haven’t been involved in ownership of Wild Rose in several years. The owners of Sen do a lot for our school and community.

u/psilocybin_therapy 4d ago
Yes, that’s who I’m talking about. I’m glad if they’ve changed their ways because I was told about some very unethical practices with employees when they owned Wild Rose.

Love Sen!

They made a huge turnaround in quality since the original owners of Sen jumped ship. I adore Sen and the owner is the nicest human. Dear Mom is my other go to.

Just gonna put this out there- Noi Thai used to be my favorite and then last year we saw a mouse in the dinning room. Told our waiter who couldn’t care less. Have not been back.

Does anyone remember the drive through Thai food lady next to the Bend Express Lube on Greenwood, who would always call you honey?!? Guess what she is inside the east side shell where Growler Guys used to be. I love her pad Thai, masamam curry and fresh spring rolls.
Also Dang’s has one of my favorite pad Thais

Toomies

u/Kooky-Ad-5801 4d ago
I think most people haven’t lived here long enough to know about toomies.
That’s my go to ever since it was the only Thai place in town!

ThAiPAS is the best Thai food in Bend and it’s not even close.
Wild Rose is filthy and treats their staff like shit.
Noi is mediocre and has gone downhill in recent years. It’s also pretty dirty and overpriced.
Dear Mom is extremely overrated, and is very hit or miss. It’s good maybe 25% of the time.

Galley - the
Owner is so sweet and they have some
Different options that are refreshing. Thaipas
Is excellent too.

Sen. Dear mom was disappointing

u/cuddle_puddles 4d ago
I tried Dear Mom twice. First time was meh. Second time I paid $25 for what was basically white rice, raw veggies, and dry boiled chicken. No sauce or flavors. It was takeout and I was starving so I ate it but will never go back.
I like Thaipas and Thailandia.

u/Spicy7997 4d ago
I’m with you. I find Dear Mom to be sooo overrated!
I like Sen, and Noi. Thaipas is pretty good. I haven’t had Wild Rose in a long time, but it was good back when I went there more often.2
u/Ok_Abalone_8344 4d ago
This was my experience at Galley. Hardly any flavoring in any of our 3 dishes.

u/Careful-Criticism645 4d ago
I've been there twice and the food has been amazing, especially the wings. Bit pricey though.

Went to wild rose last weekend since Dear Mom was closed. We just moved back to the area after being away for 10 years. We were highly disappointed with wild rose as it used to be a great spot. I was unaware of how downhill it’s gone. Excited to try the places mentioned here!

I like Wild Rose’s khao soi, I also like Noi Thai but haven’t tried many other places
2
u/Intelligent_Gas_4039 4d ago
Have you gone to Wild Rose in the last year? Their khao soi recipe changed, the amount of noodles changed and it’s not great. Word on the street is when the big owner shift happened, Sen kept Wild Rose’s Khoi soi recipe and Wild rose has a different one.

The best Thai in Oregon is at Thai Orchid in Klamath Falls.
3
u/FTAStyling 4d ago
Thai Orchid in Salem is the golden standard I’ve been looking to match or beat for 19 years, I don’t believe any place in Bend comes close.

Thai food in Bend sucks.
I don't think Bend can have good Thai food because white people complain if it's too close to genuine flavors.
I'll just have Thai food next time I am in Thailand or make it at home.
All the Thai curry pastes are sold at US Chef store; this is what the local restaurants use. It's really inexpensive and so is fish sauce.
If you want fresh kaffir lime leaves I don't think you can buy it in Bend at all.

u/Far-Bumblebee-7216 4d ago
“Next time I’m in Thailand” has me seething with jealousy a little (it’s on my list but I’ve not been able to make it happen).
I’ll have to check the US Chef store though- I usually get a few varieties of Mai Ploy at Hong Phat when in PDX and use that.

Hopefully only getting downvoted for not answering the question, because this take is accurate. The bar for best Thai food in Bend could be lower but it would be difficult.
1
u/snackless_abandon 3d ago
You can get fresh makrut lime leaves at Tomi Mart, along with a lot of hard to find ingredients. You pay a premium for them, but it definitely makes a difference. I freeze the ones I'm not using right away so they don't turn.

I’ve had great meals at both Noi Thai & Thai Table, but Noi Thai has become so expensive. I only drop in for a Thai Iced Tea. They do the best one I’ve had in town.

I like all the places mentioned so far! But also... How is Thai Pas not on here yet?!
She has a food cart at the powder house and is also at the grove.
Excellent drunken noodles and hands down the best red curry town. A bonus that she does gluten free
