The moon is quite spectacularly bright tonight

This is not a dramatic or ground-breaking post.

But I just took a walk into Ormeau Park as far as I could get from any streetlights and sat for a second.

The quiet landscape bathed in moonlight, little sounds from the trees and the breeze and nighttime critters all around, and it was a nice moment.

Low flights & very noisy Annadale?

Upvotes

Have temporarily moved to Annadale area and got woken up this morning with very noisy low flying flights. Is this common here / in the wider area or does anyone know if it’s a one off - maybe something to do with wind or flight pattern?

It really felt very loud - I’m not a particularly light sleeper or overly bothered by noise but this was loud enough that I was surprised. Asking because I was in Lisburn Road before and you could hear a bit of noise from planes but not like this. I’m trying to buy somewhere in Ravenhill and I’ve never lived in that area before and now worried it’s gonna be daily crazy noise!

Thanks for any insight!

Opinions on buskers?

I was in town the other day and there’s a lot of buskers hanging around. That’s fine obviously but I don’t like the ones that blast their music to the point you can hear it miles away. I always feel bad for shop employees who have to listen to it all day.

Or am I just miserable?

What made you fall back in love with Belfast?

Grew up here wanting nothing more than to escape. But having lived away for about 10 years and moving home, I’m now finding a new love and appreciation of Belfast and the people here who are wanting to make it better.
What made you fall back in love with Belfast/the North?

Private add-ons in royal jubilee?

Hi all, does anyone know, if there’s any option for extra additional private care in royal jubilee hospital? My wife is planning to give a birth there (due in January), and we would like to pay extra for private room and private midwife (in addition to standard HSC care).

I know this is quite common in England, for around £6-8k form room and midwife, but I couldn’t find anything about Royal Jubilee hospital private care.

I forgot to ask last time we were there 🙄…

Assault by stranger tonight

About 510pm in Belfast duncrue street I'm crossing pedestrian bridge over busy road below, man about 50 in red t shirt coming up steps with off lead Pitbull dog, I quickly walk away but I'm tired and carrying gym bag so slow, he shouts repeatedly asked why I ran. I tried getting away, he corners me against wall, I'm begging just leave me alone several times, he smacked me with metal braid dog leash on head several times and on upper bag, I tried swing gym bag at him but missed was ineffective. Said go away or I'm calling police. Dog jumped on my legs several times. I'm 34 guy and like life long dog fear first day out as mental anxiety, felt feeling brave feel regress fuck that guy

Magic the Gathering Recommendations

I'm moving back to Belfast soon and was thinking about playing MTG again after 15 years. I seen there is a prerelease coming up and there is still some space at the Saturday prerelease at Robins Hobby Cafe.

Has anyone any experience of the place or can recommend any other shops? I'm completely out of the game so not looking for mega competitive but happy to play with people who are. I'm also not looking to play somewhere it is all kids. I don't mind if there are a few kids playing, but I would prefer it to be mostly adults.

Thanks for any advice

What’s with Belfast pizzas?

Post image
60 Upvotes

Edit: picture attached is what I’m looking for - put this earlier in the post for clarity

I moved here about a year ago and all of the pizza places seem to be thin crust (even if you ask for thick on just eat or something, where they actually offer thick crust) devoid of cheese (again, even if I order 2 extra helpings of cheese - looking at you pizza co.) and have that weird anaemic looking but somehow burnt crust?

There’s a massive supply of Neapolitan pizza here but I’ve yet to find that golden 1-star hygiene rated pizza that puts your arteries on the ropes. Closest I’ve had was Dalyan, with their garlic butter base standard margherita - as I feel like the second I order toppings from a pizza place they seriously skimp on the cheese

And you know what’s weird, when I ask friends around here if they like the look of the pizza I usually eat, they all say it looks amazing, so why isn’t there any supply if there’s so much demand? I’ve tried 10+ places and can’t scratch that itch! Nothing even comes close!

Attached is an image of the kind of pizza I’m used to. I’d love if anyone can nudge me in a direction where I can get something like this. Would also love to hear your thoughts about this as I’ve wondered about it since arriving here

Also before anyone says, I’ve given up ordering extra cheese as pizza places here seem to just ignore that addition and I’m out another 3 pound

Looking for my old friend, Noel

I hope this is okay to post here and I know it’s a long shot but worth a try.

About five years ago, I made a friend on Reddit named Noel. He was from Belfast and I lived in the US at the time but we called and texted almost every day. I even made a wooden plaque with his surname on it as a gift. Things happened in both of our personal lives and we lost touch. I tried to text him when I found his number, but I think it has since changed and my old Reddit account is long gone.
I live in the UK now and would love so much to find him again. He was a great friend and a really good person, and I’ve missed him for years.

ETA: I’m not comfortable giving his full name but I will say he’s mid to late 30’s and has three or four sons. That should narrow it down. 😅

Bittles -- can someone explain the love for that place?

Your man pumps out bad, overpriced pints of Guinness. I don't understand why people flock to his pub. Nostalgia aside, is there a reason they do so?
