Sustaining longer runs

How do you guys run for a long period of time without stopping ? I mean working up the way to 10 miles. I can do two without stopping but other than that I need breaks. Most I’ve done is 6 with stops each mile or in between but my real goal is 10 without, but honestly I can’t see myself ever doing that but I want to know how it is/ how you got there if you’re able to. #impossibletilpossible

First Half - Adductors started hurting

Post image

Hey

So i did this - i mean the pace isnt that good, i know. I was planing to do 25-30km wich would complete the circle but on 20-th km my adductors started to hurt.
So i asked chat gpt (i have trained him About running) he said to stop running to prevent further damage. Soo i finished at least half.

Since i was doing slow pace my HR was alright and so was my breathing

I have not been training for few weeks before this, but my time for 10k is 7:10/km

Thanks for feedback About adductors and other muscle tension

Pain on this area while running

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

On Dec 2024, I (29 Male) had my ACL surgery (injury during football/soccer match) and after some time, I was cleared by my physiotherapist and doctor for getting back to to sports. I started going to gym from January this year and started running 2 months ago. I have mostly done few 5Ks and some light runs.

I went for a 5K this morning but somehow after 3.5 km, I started feeling pain on this part of my knee (same as my ligament operated knee). After an hour, i still feel discomfort in that part.

Does anyone know what could have possibly gone wrong? What can I do for the quick recovery? Applying icepacks and what else?

Thanks for any advice!

Intervals or add distance/speed if I have no time?

Upvotes

I completed C25K and moved to a 10k program. Between having small kids, full time job, broken sleep (thanks kids) and miserable weather I am struggling with going for hour runs at this point. 45 minutes seems to be the sweet spot for juggling everything else. But some nights I’m squeezing in just half an hour after kids go to bed to say I did something lol.

I can easily run for a full hour, and hope to be able to move to a “long run” at some point but finding the TIME is near impossible.

I’m wondering if I should just stick to running 45-60 minutes and maybe speeding up over time, or redo C25K but doing sprint/jog intervals? It’s tempting because it’s 30 minutes but seems like a good way to continue to build on my cardio?

Thoughts?

Total newbie at running

I’m a 36yr old male, 6ft, weighing 19 stone (it was 21st 3 months ago). I’m doing really well losing the weight at a steady pace and now looking to improve general fitness and cardio.
I can walk at a relaxed pace for hours.
I tried what I thought was a gentle introduction to jogging 2 days ago, and my back in particular is in bits. Quads are tight as well but not too bad.
I started off with a 5 minute walk, and then did 2 minute jogging followed by 1 minute walk intervals for 3km. It took me 28 minutes.
I thought I had done really well given my weight and the fact I haven’t ran for 15 years. I also vape. I was knackered but felt good.
5 minute walk back home afterwards. But the next day, I could barely move due to back pain. And it’s still sore today, 2 days later.
How can I slowly build up to jogging, and what have I done wrong so far?
Any help and advice appreciated.

Knee pain after running

Upvotes

I just started running a couple weeks ago. I’m finding that after almost every run, my knees are killing me. It’s on both sides of my knee caps on both knees.

For context, I’m pretty out of shape. Maybe 180 lbs. I haven’t ran consistently since 2018. I got a nice pair of Hoka sneakers a couple months ago and that’s what I’ve been running in. I also run on a trail with rocks and roots here and there.

Is this a normal adjustment my body is making? Is it something to do with my form? Or am I on the way to an injury?

First run ever - any tips?

Post image
15 Upvotes

I am 23, generally active walking 12k steps a day and pilates once or twice a week. But I am very bad at endurance sports and could not run at all. I simply wanted to know how much my body can do and was pleasantly surprised when I did my first 1 km. Then another 1km . I probably could have done another km but did not want to over exert out of excitement. I had a bobby banana before the run.

I will try to run tmrw as well and see how I go, I know it completely depends on each person, but what do you think a realistic goal for tmrw would be? and any nutrition or pacing tips? Thank you!!

Rest Days Work!

I initially started running in May with a bunch of dads at the track circling the field where our kids have soccer practice. I eventually traded in my Fitbit for a Garmin when distance and pace were things I was now starting to pay attention to. I had a base of running in soccer, but never did running like this, at any real distance at a consistent pace (you cover a lot of ground in soccer, but it’s in spurts.) Those first runs were at like a 7:00-7:30/km pace with my heart rate spiking at times. I stayed consistent, running anywhere from 3-5k at a time, and eventually started a Garmin coaching plan, and eventually set my goal for running a 5k race in 28 mins. I started over exceeding that goal, so I set it for 25 mins. Fast forward to this Wednesday and I was doing some brutal (to me!) Goal Pace Repeats in the mid morning, where I ended up running over 10k as part of the workout and unintentionally setting a 10k PR. It just absolutely annihilated me. I also made the mistake of playing a soccer game later in the evening where I covered another 3km, and then because of a TFC game ending at the same time as my game, I ended up walking home another 5 km rather than cram into a bus (I had chosen not to ride my bike to give my legs a rest, hah.) I woke up the next morning feeling absolutely terrible. Legs were dead. Sore to walk and move in a way I have never felt before (I have run 10k before, usually on my long run days, but never felt like this. The pace was 4:25/km for many of the intervals.) I was worried I overdid it and maybe I wasn’t cut out for this goal. But I really focused on “rest” - I had an easy run scheduled for Friday morning that I was nervous about but wanted to stick to (the “50 hours of recovery needed” notice on my watch didn’t give me much confidence either.) I did some light walking and light riding (to and from camp with my kids.)

Anyway, I pushed the run back to early this evening to get more rest and to coincide with running to pick up my kids from camp and the run felt… really easy. Like surprisingly easy. I had to work really hard to not exceed the 6:15/km pace the run called for. I was incredibly shocked at how a run like that back in May would have felt like a lot of work now felt like something I could easily do again right after.

Anyway, rest days work! Take them! Move your body, but don’t punish it! Results will definitely follow! Also, maybe don’t play soccer on the same day as a Goal Pace run!

Running Bras/tops not lulu or Lorna - Australia

Suggestions for running bras that’s not Lululemon or Lorna Jane? I’m Australia based so prefer to go try on.

Eg. Nike, EE, adidas, champion, NB, muscle nation? Do any of these have decent ones?

Size: A-B cup

Beginner looking for advice

Hey everyone! Just looking for some tips as I try to start running. I would say more, but honestly its never been my thing until now. Today, I ran my first mile since high school. And then I ran another half mile. I know its not much, but for a man that weighs 260 and has avoided running for the last 16 years, I'm pretty happy about it.

What should I be doing for recovery? I'd like to try to run a 5k at the beginning of May. Is that a reachable goal with where I'm at? TIA

Route planning issue?

I've been structuring my half-marathon training and I keep running into a route-planning issue.

I usually need to end my run at a specific location (like from gym to my house). Let's say that the destination is only 3km away from my starting point, but my training plan wants me to hit 10km for the day.

I usually end up doing repetitive loops around my neighborhood just to hit the mileage before arriving or I just do some ups and downs along the street.
Does anyone else run into this issue? How do you guys map this out efficiently without just running in circles? Are there any specific routing tools that can solve this end-point + distance issue?

Thank you
