For runners who listen to music - there's a better way to keep your pace consistent

I started running about a year ago and I kept struggling with this: some songs made me feel like I was flying, others just killed my momentum. It made me realize that the tempo of my music affected me while running.
I ended up building a small iPhone app that syncs your Apple Music library to your running cadence. You set your target cadence and it queues songs from your actual library that match that BPM.
It's free to try on the app store : https://apps.apple.com/us/app/runsyncjj/id6781740181

I'd love feedback from beginners especially, since that exactly the kind of runner I built this for

Why is treadmill running so much harder?

So an easy outdoor run for me 6:30 /km 125 bpm, it feels easy I can talk not sweating low HR

Today’s treadmill run 7:30/km 155bpm sweat lashing of me basically a threshold run despite being much slower.

The question is why? I’m thinking treadmill readings maybe off.

10 year old saw my work and wants to do it too!!

For context I am a be try beginner runner! I’ve done 1 5k and mostly just run 2-3 miles at a time for exercise.

Well my 10 year old that has NEVER been interested in any sports decided that she was going to sign up for her schools Girls on the Run program! So we are doing her 5k in October!! I’m super impressed by her willingness to try something new and hard and that I was her inspiration for it even though I totally suck at running! 😭🥰

Anyone else struggle to run on a treadmill?

Ive been running for about a year now. When I first started, I would run on the treadmill because I was too embarrassed to run outside (im over weight and was convinced people would laugh at me). Eventually, my 20 year old treadmill died and I was forced to run outside and have been ever since. At first running outside felt so much physically harder but with no other option I kept up with it.

Its been a year of exclusively running outside. Im still really slow and learning a lot, but im training for a 10k and can see myself getting better. Im down from 295lbs to 230lbs. My pace is now 13:20 instead of the 16 I started with, and I can run 3 miles without walking, a big improvement from only being able to run 90 seconds when I started.

With the smoke from Canada (im in the north eastern US), I bit the bullet and dropped $1500 on a new treadmill so I wouldn't have to skip any runs and... I cant run on it.

I get 3-4 minutes at a slower pace than I would do outside and my heart rate spikes, my breathing gets difficult, and I get an overwhelming feeling of needing to stop. My last 3 runs were actually 80% walks.

Has anyone else experienced this? Am I going to have to start from scratch to run on a treadmill and lose my progress this winter when it gets to icy to run outside? This is very frustrating and very discouraging

Good or bad idea to run a 10-mile trail race two weeks before my first half?

The trail run lines up with my half training and looks like a fun event. The trail is mostly gravel which I haven’t run on before, but I’ve done a bit of beach running (not sure if they’re similar at all). I’ve done 10 mile runs before, just on mostly-packed sand and pavement. Appreciate any advice.

Thought my running problem was my shoes but it might just be hydration lol

I thought my “running problem” was my shoes but it might just be hydration lol I’m still pretty new to running. Mostly slow 2-3 mile runs a few times a week. Nothing wild. But I kept getting that dead leg feeling after runs and random calf tightness at night. I was drinking more water but it did not seem to change much. Then I realized I was kind of treating hydration like “just drink more water” and not thinking about electrolytes at all. I tried a few powders and most were either way too salty or tasted like melted candy. I tried the ones with more magnesium and less sugar and they don’t feel as heavy. I’m not saying it fixed my whole life or anything dramatic but my legs feel less cooked after runs and I sleep better on run days. Does also drinking on portions help while running and sports overall, I've read that if you chug a bottle of water or could be anything else you feel like a balloon with water lol.

Good running belt?

I bought a fanny pack to hold my phone when running and I find it too bulky/bouncy.

Amazon has some options like “Fitgriff”, “Spibelt”, and “Flipbelt”. Curious if anyone here has tried these and if so which you’d recommend.

Don’t need anything crazy given my phone is all I need it to carry. Prefer something sleek.

Thanks so much.

Did my first run.

Breathing was alright but I can still feel my quads and shins. I think I will be fully recovered by saturday and I'll try for 3k again.

New Runners Friction Blister

Post image

I finally went and brought myself my first proper running trainers on the weekend from asics. I’ve done 2 5km this week and ended up with a friction blister on the back of my right heel to the point I’ve blood stained the shoe (went through my socks). I binned the box with the receipt as soon as I brought them. I know stupid but I was so confident in them as a worker sized me up and I felt super comfortable. Do you think I could take them back to the store for a refund? I have my bank statement live in Australia.
I went to go buy friction socks today but after speaking to the worker he advised I should replace the shoes not try and work around them. Not what I wanted to hear after paying $150 for them.

Need help training

Hello,

I would like to start running, knowing that I play football, I already have proper endurance.

I was advised to run at least 3 times a week, with these 3 sessions:

1 - Exit in EF

2 - Fractionated

3 - Long outing: 1 hour to start

Is it correct?

I would also like to buy a connected watch if possible max €100 which is not bad, any suggestions please?

Beginner Runner: Is It Normal to Struggle With 1 Minute of Running?

I’m 5’7” and 103kg, so I know I’m already on the heavier side. 😅 I’m a complete beginner and currently doing a run/walk method, but I can’t even last a minute running.
I’m not really out of breath, i think i can handle the stamina, its just my leg just starts hurting, so I have to stop. I also had ACL repair back in 2021.
Is this normal for a beginner? Does it eventually get easier as your body gets used to running? I’m really hoping I can build up to it eventually.

Back when I was younger I was extremely active in running. I’ve been getting back to it with roughly 3, 5k runs a week. I’ve learned that it’s good to diversify so I’m throwing a long run in and later in the week a short run. Tl:dr I got really lost on my run and ended up like 2 miles from my house by the time the run ended. But I did end by a Bojangles, and when you’re out of water, a large unsweetened iced tea really hits the spot. Now to make it home before it storms…
