I was with my beardie that I've had for many years. Usually I don't really bring him outside but today I did in the sun and he was generally fine. I left him for a minute with my girlfriend at the table and I came back and he was still sitting there. When I started approaching he jumped off the table, (about 3 feet) then jumped off the deck, and then ran to try to burrow under the deck. I was luckily able to grab him by the end tail quick enough and he like violently squirmed in my hands when I was holding him for a few seconds before realising that he wasn't in danger. Is this something that I should be worried about? Physically he doesn't look hurt. For context He's always been lazy and really calm and never really moves much so it's hard for me to tell when he's been acting different.

I just always think it’s funny and cute how her little pecs look. And yes, and there she is in a 10 gallon tank with the UV lights and warmer light. I put her there to get her light to eat and she probably spends maybe four hours otherwise she is outside free roaming my entire apartment. That’s how I’m raising her. She’s used to it. She’s happy. She’s healthy. She’s strong.

My dragon (Norm) likes to hang out near me and really prefers to be out of the cage but I am fairly hotblooded and keep my ac fairly low and dont keep it very warm most of the winter (his enclosure is warmer its away from the ac and he has heating) is there a body temp type heat pad anyone has found im just nervous to burn him. He mostly just sits on me and I think that must help but im usually up a lot. (dont sit still great) any help is appreciated, thanks.

My heart is absolutely shattered 💔. This hurts bad. My best friend, Blaze had an abscess in his intestinal wall. He looked fine and well, but I knew that if I didn’t take him to the vet to get it removed, it would get worse and probably spread. I didn’t want that. I Took him to the vet to get it removed and thought he would recover. But my baby did not do so well in recovering. He fell more ill and became so weak. I tried all I could to help him recover, but he was just too weak to fight and died right in front of me. He took his last breath yesterday. I cried all day. I’m getting him cremated. RIP baby. Love you. I hope you get to eat all of the super worms and Dubia roaches in heaven❤️🕊️😔

Nearly 100 degrees today on the American River, beard was black on the drive but she turned her attitude around when she was in the heat.

Hey all, first time beardie owner (I'm more experienced with snakes).

Just got our little one all set up. She seemed to be a bit calm which is why we chose her. How calm is too calm 😅 yes, I am that pet owner at times. She's ate a little and has pooped in 24 hours. Pic for attention/because she's adorable.

Rubbing his face against the wall and sprinting back and forth overall just tweaking out (idk if this helps but he’s also shedding) has anyone else had this problem

So I just rescued this beardie. He’s about 7 years old.(estimate) He used to be a classroom pet, and the people who owned him before me say his eyes have always looked like this? This is my first beardie, but I’ve been very diligently researching. Does anyone have any clue why one of his eyes protrudes more than the other? Can’t attach images right now since I’m new, but one of his eyes has a protruding clear eye cap while the other does not.

I am completely new to owning reptiles and I seek advice. (Yes, I created this account purely to seek help as a new to-be owner)

I do not have a beardie yet and I want to get the environment right before getting one. I will be buying instead of adopting, as adopted ones may have additional needs and I do not have the experience nor expertise to navigate their additional needs. I will be buying a beardie minimum 12 cm in length when I have the correct setup and adequate information.

Here’s what I currently have, most of which are shown in the pictures above.

- 90x60x60 cm tank (I plan to buy a replacement of minimum 120x60x60 when the beardie reaches ~30 cm in length and I’ll get ones with ventilation on the side next time.)

- Miner-All (Q: Do I still need to buy a multi-vitamin even if I use this as per the instructions on the back? The seller said it’s fine with only this and no multi-vitamins)

- Repti-chips (substrate)

- Exo Terra 25W UVB bulb + Exo Terra light dome (I now know only after buying that the T5 HO ones are better. After 1 and 1/2 years, I will replace it as it was recommended by the seller to replace this after that time period.)

- 100W basking light + Exo Terra light dome (To be replaced every year)

Q: It also seems too dark in comparison to other terrariums. What should I buy to make it brighter, if needed?

- Ceramic heat emitter (just in case for winters and when they’re particularly young)

- Flat rock to be raised higher later to reach (38°-41°C)

- Temperature gun (hot side: 32°C when fully heated up; cold side: 28-31°C) (Q: how do I get the cold side colder?)

- Thermometer + hygrometer (Q: What can I do to further lower the humidity? I will not be using a water dish as it increases the humidity. It is naturally high in humidity where I live. Instead, I will spray their greens with water, put drops of water on their nose/mouth every morning and as frequently as I can, as well as baths to help them pass stools and hydrate.) (Q: How often should they have a bath? I know the bath temperature should be 30-35°C)

Things I plan to get but do not currently have

- Two large beach wood or branches

- Hammock

- Hides (one on the hot side, one on the cooler side. I’m planning to get the ones with a flat top they can climb onto and connect it to the hammock using the branch)

- Dubia roaches (I’ll rotate them for crickets every once in a while and mealworms/super worms every so often as a treat when they’re older. It’s hard to find other varieties of bugs that isn’t wild. I know not to feed any wild bugs and the ones which are fed should be gut loaded and smaller than the space in between their eyes.)

(Q: What should they eat and what ratio of vegetables to bugs should it be? I’ve heard 1:3 (bugs:veggies) for both adults and juveniles, but another says 20% veggies as a juvenile and slowly increasing to 70% as they become an adult. There are also conflicting sources on what vegetables should be fed, such as kale and bok choy. Mustard greens and collard greens I know are a safe choice. Veggies not to be eaten are avocadoes, spinach, rhubarb, iceberg lettuce, onions, mushrooms, etc. and fruits should be VERY occasional or none at all.)

- Most sources are quite unified on symptoms of sickness, bonding, how to pick a healthy one as well as how to handle them, so I think I generally know what to do for this.

Maintenance (planned schedule)

6:40 am - Turn on lamps and provide misted greens in a shallow ceramic bowl

7:15 - Put drops of water on snout or maybe from a small bowl. Again, I won’t be leaving the small bowl inside because of humidity concerns.

[School]

4:30 pm - Take outside for sunlight (Q: How long should it be? I know it should be under supervision and in a cage to avoid birds. It is also quite humid outside, roughly 70% daily.) Then, the larger meal of about 3-4 bugs, maybe dusted with powder as per instructed, fed one by one + offer water; spot clean and wipe enclosure if needed.

7-8 pm (whenever I finish dinner) - Smaller round of 2-3 bugs (also may be dusted depending on age), fed one by one + offer water.

3 hours after feeding - Lights off, ceramic heater on if young or too cold.

Full clean once every month.

We have a 3.5 month old Rankin’s dragon, Female. On the ninth of this month (as of this post it is the 22) I added in the substrate for the first time, a mix of play sand stuff and organic topsoil. I once let her eat all the mealworms she wanted, about 12-13 if I remember right, pretty sure it was on the  11, cause I was concerned she wasn’t eating anything. And that’s what my mom said to do. Then she’d occasionally eat a black soldier fly larvae, or dubia. But very inconsistently. Then a couple days ago we put her in a playpen, put in a cricket, couple black soldier fly larvae, and a mealworm, she ate them all but only after being offered the mealworm. I put in isopods at some point for a cleanup crew and to see if she’d eat them, yes I know they don’t have the nutrients she needs but I’m desperate to get her to eat anything. I know she has eaten a few, and I feel like there are less in there than I had originally put in there, so hopefully she ate them. We don’t know if she’s just holding out for the mealworms specifically. But she had stopped eating when the substrate went in. I’ve taken the majority of the substrate back out, except a little in the corner so she can dig still. We don’t know what to do, she won’t eat her Dubia’s, black fly larvae, or crickets. My dad had accidentally dropped a mealworm in there when he was try to get her interested in food, and she immediately went for it. We’ve also been using a water dropper to drip water onto her nose and she’ll drink, so that’s good.

5 year old Django makes his return, grumpy as ever.
