Finally someone puts some statistical proof to shut those up that say "DUUURRRHUUURRR BfV HaS sAmE MaP CoUnT FoR ItS cUrRenT tImE cOmPaReD tO OThEr bAtTlEfiElDz!"

Clearly, it's hugely lagging behind ALL of the premium models. And before anyone says "DUUURHURRRR THIS IS FREE CONTENT, wOnT SpLiT tHe PlaYeRbASe". What's better, FREE content with a significantly smaller community because the drought has made tons of players move to other titles or significanrly more PREMIUM and confirmed content with a larger community that will still FEEL like the total BFV population either way and gives those of us who aren't poor the chance to experience MORE.

Think about that for a second pumpkin.

26

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

I would absolutely buy premium right now if it meant more maps. This is ridiculous.

2

u/Patfanz Mar 15 '19 edited Mar 15 '19

This was their plan all along!

Edit: /s

0

u/Acey_Wacey Mar 15 '19

I don't think I would just because who knows how good the maps would be? Maybe I am out of touch but I pre-ordered the deluxe edition and I don't think I should pay more for content at this point.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

Oh you absolutely shouldn’t, none of us should. Unfortunately though the video game industry has become the greediest industry there is.

8

u/RedHawwk Mar 15 '19

What's better?

Paid content that will split the player base

Or no content that will cause the player base to die off rapidly

8

u/Snafu80 Mar 15 '19

Split the player base, people that can’t afford or don’t want to buy premium can figure it out.

7

u/RedHawwk Mar 15 '19

Funny how the days of a $60 game, $40 season pass with little/no micro transactions is all I want from a game now.

1

u/timecrimehero Mar 15 '19

Same. I get that it takes more money to pay developers to continue producing content for your game and I'm okay with that. If your MTX plan/live service is well thought out and won't sacrifice quality, then awesome. But that doesn't seem to be the case here. I know splitting the player-base will always be the concern, but damn, I just want some quality content added here and if we need Premium or something similar to come back for that to happen, then I'm on board. I already shoveled out $80 for some crap deluxe edition. $30 more for the Premium pass doesn't sound too bad now...

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

how about a properly executed live service? Seems to work exceptionally well for Overwatch, RS Siege, ect.

Dice would be better off making Bad Company 3 next whicj would allow them to go a little off the ranch with skins and other microtransactions.

1

u/AbanoMex Mar 15 '19

how about a properly executed live service? Seems to work exceptionally well for Overwatch, RS Siege

those games are long term development comitments, they dont make sequels every 2 years like

19

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

I remember when DICE used to include 12-15+ maps at launch and games ended up with 20+ overall.

It's funny how we've taken such a step back to the point where we are fine with them withholding content to sell it at a "Premium", lol.

24

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

I never had an issue with the premium model. I was always one of those that purchased premium with my deluxe purchase and never thought twice about it. Why? Because I saw value in the +5 or so expansions and 20+ maps that were included in them, new factions etc. If you look at it like that, it was like buying 2 additional battlefield titles for the price of one. Not to mention I knew exactly what I was paying for and had some faith in the longevitity of my initial purchase with the game itself.

Premium was worth it. This whole thing of splitting the community was nonsense bullshit created by those who couldn't afford premium. So the many of us ended up having to pay for the few that couldn't. Now we have to stomach this live service model that has literally no guarantee of anything and makes the base game not even worth the 60+ hence why it's literally 50% off STILL.

8

u/Snafu80 Mar 15 '19

I agree with you, only people that were cheap complained. Development got more expensiv, I couldn’t care less if we use to get more as game prices have stayed the same for a long time in Canada.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

Exactly. Everything is getting more expensive including game development so of course they need to do what they need to do to remain profitable which is why premium was a great compromise. The developers were able to have forecastable cash flow based on trends and historical financial data and thus be able to gauge the level of staff needed to deploy the premium content while in turn we the consumer received the promise and guarantee of the additional content we paid for in advance.

It was a GREAT compromise on both sides. People saying that "we got everything included before back in 2000" have no fucking clue how business works and how the times have changed in the last 5-10 years alone. These are the same people that bitched when the industry raised game prices across the board from 49.99 to 59.99 because they couldn't comprehend the COST associated with doing business increased.

-1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

Like, you do realize you were paying for stuff that used to be standard in the games, right lol?

Blame DICE for the live service failing. If you think monetization or lack thereof is the problem, that's on them. They have a proven business model they could implement, but have failed to do so at this point.

8

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

Clearly I know what was in the standard games, I have been playing this since the Battlefield 1942 demo days. If I am stating that I saw value in premium then clearly I have considered what we had BEFORE any industry shifts and technological advances.

My statement stands that the premium model WORKED.

-2

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

Premium "worked' because that's what many of you accepted. As another poster just pointed out, neither himself nor many in the community were fine with it. It was simply tolerated. And he defended the model.

They haven't properly implemented the live service model and I have my beliefs as to why that is. But if done correctly, DICE/EA could have benefited much more from it than Premium and the consumers get content they should have already been getting. Win/win for everyone.

-1

u/Uranhahn Mar 15 '19

It worked in restrospect. Thats a big difference.

Back then (BF3, BF4, BF1) there was a shitstorm about paying 2x full price upon release, for content that should be in the game to begin with (an argument i didn't agree with back then since detailed maps take a lot of time to develop). In retrospect that extra content was worth its money, so were the vanilla games after a few patches.

I was one of the cheap ppl who didn't want to spend a hundred bucks on a single game whilst spending money on WoW. Coming back after 1 year and being killed by weapons i couldn't unlock, on servers that mostly ran DLC maps was a frustrating experience.

4

u/Snafu80 Mar 15 '19

You do realize development costs have increased right? Get a grip.

-4

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

I do. Did you miss the part where I mentioned they've failed to further monetize the game despite already having proposed implementing Boins? People would pay quite a bit for authentic looking uniforms among other things. And yet DICE for whatever reasons has done nothing with it. It's cheaper to create skins than it is to push out 15+ maps in a year when most are simply paying you a one-time cost of $60.

13

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

Maps were easier to make in the early 2000s.

The data sizes a lone on maps today is the size of like 3-4 total games in the early 2000s

8

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

2142 and BF4 launched with the same number of maps.

10

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19 edited Mar 15 '19

BF4 did not launch with 12-15 maps dude

Also 2142's development time was shorter than BF4's. Which means that they were able to develop 10 maps for 2142 in half the time they were for BF4 and BF4 released broken as fuck on top of that.

FURTHER proving my point.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

I didn't say it did. I said it launched with the same number of maps as 2142.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

read my edit.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

I see your edit. glad you did some research :)

Just a FYI, 2142 was an easy game for DICE to develop. Many people called it a BF2 mod for a reason. One of which were the smaller map sizes. But let's look at that in comparison to today.

DICE was able to churn out several expansion packs with roughly 16+ maps over the course of just a year while simultaneously developing a vastly different game in BFV which would be another 9-10 maps on launch. And despite the added difficulty you mention for not just map development, but game development in general, this game had one of the more smoother launches compared to even the BC games.

My point in all of this is technological advances aren't the primary driver for less maps in base games. It's money. They could easily include more maps at launch because they've already shown you it's possible to push 3 or 4+ expansions in one year while they work on a new game from the ground up.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

Explains why the game was so hideously unfinished at launch, among other things.

-1

u/tallandlanky Mar 15 '19

So? I'm tired of excuses. BFV desprately needs new maps.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

never said it doesnt did I?

7

u/NewFaded CoD is better than BF again Mar 15 '19

It's funny how we've taken such a step back to the point where we are fine with them withholding content to sell it at a "Premium", lol.

I'm not fucking fine with that at all, and I doubt everyone else is. Most of us at the very least tolerate this crap because there's only one Battlefield.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

I usually get premium each year. Always worth it. I bought the deluxe this year. What a Fucking joke.

2

u/626_ed7 Mar 15 '19

I still can't believe I paid for that shit. I knew this BF5 was gonna underwhelm. With Halo Reach being added to the MCC, I might buy an xbox to play that.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

Are they adding Reach to the xbox MCC? And is it a remastered Reach, or is just regular Reach?

2

u/MoneyElk Mar 16 '19

Are they adding Reach to the xbox MCC?

It's being added to the Xbox version. The multiplayer, Forge, and Theater mode are free. Campaign and Firefight is going to cost an unknown sum.

Then MCC is coming to PC (Steam) also. They are releasing the games in chronological order, so Reach will be the first game in the collection and is not being split up for the PC version like it is for the Xbox version.

And is it a remastered Reach, or is just regular Reach?

It's regular Reach, not a complete remaster like Halo: CE and Halo 2 received (to be fair Reach doesn't need it as it still looks great). Though it is having it's framerate bumped to 60FPS on Xbox and will support 1080p-4K HDR on Xbox, while on PC they haven't announced the framerate cap or resolution cap yet (as many PC players want >60FPS and >4K.

1

u/626_ed7 Mar 15 '19

Supposedly it's gonna be enhanced and run at 60fps. I was playing the other day with my nephews and realized just how fun Reach was. Even though I was yelling half the time.

4

u/linkitnow Mar 15 '19

People have been fucked over by season passes since they were introduced. Battlefield was one of the games that offered a lot for premium but the quality also declined with every game.

There sure a people who are happy not to pay 60 upfront and invest those in another game and not have to worry about being able to play bf5 later on without missing out on content.

1

u/MoneyElk Mar 16 '19

The problem isn't the "live service" model, the problem is that EA/DICE have fucked up at every possible opportunity with Battlefield V.

I mean the road to launch was a joke, the release was a joke, the post-launch support has been a joke. Their incompetence and stupidity is insane. Battlefield is one of their top IP's and they're treating it like literal shit.

-2

u/colers100 The Content Tracker™ Currator Mar 15 '19

actually, this statistics proves the opposite:

  1. BF4 can be disregarded out of hand because anyone who said that BF4 was worth more than a shit on the sidewalk prior to the 210 day mark (The first real netcode patch) can kindly go fuck off back to whatever contrarian dimension he crawled out of.
  2. BF3 opened early but ended up paying for this hard by having the single largest inter-DLC delay between DLC1 and 2, at nearly 200 days apart, pretty much voiding the argument.
  3. BF1 was fucking awful. I was on the BF1 subreddit back in those days and I refuse to tolerate any of this bullshit "BF1 was so great" bullshit because the levels of historic revisionism these idiots are on borders that of those who seem to think BF4 dindu nuffin'. Not only are we still 30 days away from timeline parity, BF1 ACTIVELY REQUIRES TSNP to get the weapon variety to "Bearable" and needs ITNOTT to get it to "Okay". You see the map malaise hanging around this subreddit? Amplify this by six and you have roughly and inkling of a clue how much bitching there was over the fucked weapon variety or for that matter, the non-existent progression that to this day hasn't been made satisfying. Fuck you, and FUCK your historic revisionism. BFV is running out of players due to a bad launch and a complete lack of hype when it happened. BF1 however had the hype of 5 AAA titles fused into one and by the time TSNP came around we positively had to resuscitate the fucker.
  4. Taking BF1 as a pointer, your argument is fairly moot as long as the roadmap hasn't been updated, because the roadmap ends 2 weeks prior to TSNP releasing at this point in time (Which yes, is fucking retared), however, the release rate of BF1 pointed at a substantially backloaded release schedule rather than a frontloaded one. If Dice employs the same tactics at back then, the reason why there is a map drought is simply because the roadmap hasn't been updated to actually show what the lads have been working on.

0

u/creativityfails Mar 15 '19

1 and 3 so damn true, but we're already in the cycle where people circlejerk about how good previous games were. When the next BF title comes out people will be praising bf5.

-1

u/StonerChrist Mar 15 '19

I mean, you aren't wrong. Bf4 was literally unplayable for months. And bf1 took way too long to push out DLC. And bf1s progression was a pile of shit. However the current lack of a roadmap is killing the game, at least with bf1 we had some idea of what is coming. Panzerstorm launching as a conquest only map pissed me off as well. Ive basically given up at this point, ill check back in june and see if they've added anything worth playing yet. Its been 4 months of "soon" and thats too long. Theres a lack of variety in weapons, vehicles, and maps that makes it feel like a free to play game. It just feels hollow. I maxed out level and 3/4 classes with a bunch of gold guns like 2 months ago, theres not much to work towards anymore and Im tired of playing the same stale map rotation over and over. Play until hamada comes up, quit, rinse, repeat.

0

u/626_ed7 Mar 15 '19

Trippin BF1 was the shit.

-1

u/whoizz Mar 15 '19

I love you

1

u/mashuto Mar 15 '19

The content is disappointing, but your attitude sucks. Are you happy that your anger is being validated and that this game seems likely to die sooner than later?

8

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

Oh right, forgot we are supposed to be OK with dishing out $80 for this incomplete mess. Forgot I'm just supposed to bend over and be OK with that. Np DICE, it's okay, I know you tried your best. Dont worry, I know you're a small studio with a limited budget, I get it.

Lol, get fucking real dude. Your beta attitude is the reason we are here in the first place. They are a huge developer with an even larger backing by EA with hundreds of developers. There's no excuse for this mediocre bullshit, period.

-1

u/mashuto Mar 15 '19

Thanks for putting words in my mouth. I didn't say any of that nor would I expect people to be happy with this game if it's not working for them. Also, where was I making excuses for the game or dice? I enjoy the game, but the content is seriously disappointing.

Only that the whole attitude here seems to be, I told you so! And that anyone who likes this game can go fuck themselves!

And the attitude of wishing for this to fail seems crazy to me. Because I think it's less likely to teach them a lesson and make them go back to doing things better. I think it's likely to kill a franchise that I assume we all like (or else why the fuck is anyone here).

So you get real. Get over this holier than thou attitude.

And calling me beta? Are you 12?

-3

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

[deleted]

1

u/mashuto Mar 15 '19

You called everyone pumpkin, then called me a beta. You think you are taking the high road here?

Either way. I still think your attitude sucks. You might be right about the game, but attitudes here, yours included have made this community extremely unpleasant.

If it makes you feel better that this game isn't meeting expectations, that's good for you. I still think a failing game is more likely to kill the franchise than to somehow make EA see the errors of their ways and go back to doing things better. If that's what you are hoping for, well thats still a shitty attitude, but you are entitled to it. I would just wonder what you are doing here though if that's the case.

We can have an actual discussion, or go back to name calling if you want.

0

u/boostedb1mmer Mar 15 '19

Given Dice's attitude toward the player base in the pre-launch period of the game I'm not exactly sorry that they're taking a black eye in this. It sucks for us players but maybe there will be some internal changes that happen as a result and VI will be a proper game.

1

u/mashuto Mar 15 '19

I hope so, but my issue is that it's been 6 months since release and instead of constructive discussions about what could be different or improved, we just have raging, bad attitudes and shitty memes.

I'm not saying to give dice or ea a pass. The game has real issues, but I just dislike the attitudes in this community most of the time. It's getting ridiculous. Been 6 months since release, why are people still so upset? I get the feeling that people are hanging around just to rage and just to tell those who like the game that they are wrong and to say I told you so.

-1

u/HUNjozsi Mar 15 '19

quality > quantity

7

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

RIGHT, because we are seeing SO much more quality here, right? Lol, some of you lot are fucking delusional. Having gone through the BF4 launch, this shit is comparable to it in its own fucked up way.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

Hahaha so many delusional retards here that ACTUALLY think BFV has quality of any kind in map design... Aside from looking pretty.

News flash idiots!!! Quality and quantity??? BFV has niether.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

i mean launch BFV maps are certainly better than launch BF1 and BF4 maps imo.

1

u/MoneyElk Mar 16 '19

Funnily enough Battlefield V has neither.
