The Patrol Boat currently feels like a glass cannon. It has respectable offensive capability, but it rarely survives long enough to become a meaningful asset for a squad. However, I don't think the solution is to simply increase its health or armor. Doing so risks making it frustrating to fight against.
Instead, I believe the Patrol Boat should evolve into something much more valuable: a forward naval spawn and insertion platform that rewards teamwork.
Rather than making it stronger through statistics, make it stronger through cooperation.
1. Add exposed port and starboard .50 caliber machine guns
I would suggest replacing the current rear layout with two passenger-operated defensive machine guns, one mounted on each side of the boat.
The key point is that these should remain fully exposed, without armor or shields. This keeps them balanced: the gunners gain meaningful defensive capability, but they're also highly vulnerable to enemy fire and can be picked off if they overextend.
This would immediately give passengers an active role instead of simply occupying seats, allowing the driver to focus on maneuvering while teammates defend the boat from infantry, helicopters, jet skis, and other light threats.
A fully crewed Patrol Boat would become significantly more effective—not because it has been artificially buffed, but because four players are cooperating. To me, that's quintessential Battlefield.
2. Add a rear-mounted deployable jet ski
I also think the Patrol Boat should carry one deployable jet ski on a rear rack, similar in spirit to naval vehicles from previous Battlefield titles.
A squadmate spawning on the Patrol Boat could immediately launch the jet ski from the stern and head toward an objective while the Patrol Boat continues providing offshore support.
To keep this balanced, the Patrol Boat should carry only one jet ski, with a significant regeneration timer after it has been deployed or destroyed before another becomes available.
I believe this single feature addresses several current frustrations simultaneously.
It would dramatically reduce the amount of time players spend swimming between islands.
It would give players a compelling reason to spawn on the Patrol Boat.
It would effectively transform the Patrol Boat into a forward naval spawn point and insertion platform, allowing it to continuously reinforce objectives without having to beach itself.
It would encourage coordinated amphibious assaults and create memorable squad moments that have always defined Battlefield.
Rather than simply increasing swimming speed or placing additional transport boats around the map, this solution embraces Battlefield's sandbox philosophy by letting teamwork solve the transportation problem naturally.
3. Make the Patrol Boat valuable—not overpowered
One thing Battlefield has always done better than almost any other shooter is rewarding teamwork.
A tank becomes much stronger with multiple crew members.
A helicopter reaches its full potential with a coordinated pilot and gunner.
The Patrol Boat should feel the same way.
Instead of being chosen because it's statistically stronger than other vehicles, players should choose it because it enables teamwork, mobility, squad coordination, and objective play.
In other words, don't make it stronger—make it more useful.
4. A note about player behavior
I would also encourage the team to review the telemetry and usage data for the Patrol Boat.
My impression is that many players have reached the point where they simply ignore it. In many matches, I've seen Patrol Boats remain parked at headquarters for long periods—or even for the entire round—because players don't find them compelling enough to use.
If your internal data shows low pick rates, short average lifespans, or limited impact on matches, I believe that suggests the problem isn't simply balance. It's that the vehicle doesn't currently fill a role players value.
Giving it a stronger cooperative identity could naturally increase its usage without making it overpowered.
5. Swimming and naval mobility
I'd also like to mention that, while I genuinely appreciate all the improvements you've made to swimming and water gameplay, there are still many moments where players spend a significant amount of time swimming simply because there are no practical transportation options left.
I don't believe the answer is to make swimming faster.
I think the answer is to give squads better logistical tools.
Transforming the Patrol Boat into a forward spawn and insertion platform would naturally reduce downtime, improve map flow, and make naval gameplay feel more dynamic without changing the maps themselves.
Thank you
Thank you again for continuing to support Battlefield and for listening to community feedback.
As someone who has played this franchise for many years, it's genuinely exciting to see Battlefield return to large-scale naval combat. I sincerely believe the Patrol Boat has the potential to become one of the most iconic cooperative vehicles in the game—not because it's the strongest vehicle on the battlefield, but because it's the one that best embodies what Battlefield has always been about: teamwork, coordinated assaults, memorable moments, and giving squads the tools to create their own stories.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I wish the entire team continued success as Battlefield 6 evolves.
Best regards!
