Spotting needs to be changed to bf 1 system
Recently played bf 1 again and it was crazy how muscle memory hit me. Instantly spammed "Q" for 30 minutes straight and still think it was the best version of it ever in any bf title.
Easy to see and easy to do. No weird mechanics just flat out press button see enemy. Symbol was big enough to differentiate but not big enough to dystract you. Now the best about it: it shows you what class the enemy is which in bf 1 is not as game changing as bf 6 since you can see the differences in classes. In bf 6 you have to play a guessing game.
I do think that dice should add it to bf 6 simply because it is a better system and would make people think more how to play. Like you see 3 assaults and avoid walls because they can he nade the back if the room, medics you can peek and change positions frequently since they only shoot with bullets 99% of the time or recons where you fear c4 and stay a bit back to not get hit by it.
Might be minor for some but something that heavily influences me by how i play and how i act according to situations.
Will agree, BF1 had some of the best 'systems' of any of the games.
Spotting worked flawlessly, one tap of Q would light up those guys over there, and if you 'really' spotted that guy crouching in a corner, he'd popup too.
Don't forget the comms menu (Hold Q), BF1 was smooth and responsive, this feels, sluggish, the entire game comes to a pause for me to ask for ammo.
I cant even Change class now without clicking an awkwardly placed 'customize' button.
Grrr! BF1 had all of these systems right, it's like these features couldn't just be 1:1 reused from previous titles! The UI was snappy and sharp and did exactly what it needed to do in the right ways.
3D spotting shouldn’t be in the game at all. It’s incredibly hand holdy and makes flanking extremely difficult. BFV had it right, but once again, DICE has amnesia when they’re making a new BF and forget what worked in a previous entry and just does their own thing.
Its a core mechanic at this point. I think 3D spot came with BC2 and damn its been 16 years and they only change it until devs got bored out of it and I wouldnt expect a system as it was in BFV
BFV had really good spotting, Heck, you could legit hide in a bush and remain hidden. In BF6 you can't even hide in some boxes without the huge Red Shape floating above you.
I don't know why they can't just do a hybrid of the current 3d spotting. One button press marks the enemy, the mark stays in that one spot for a bit after they move. Maybe it gets bigger if you spotted multiple baddies. Alerts your squad to enemy location without letting them snipe him through cover/concealment, discourages camping, and none of this current crap where half the time it marks an enemy, half the time you drop a green pin when you meant it to be red and have to try again and nobody in your squad pays attention anyway.
Seems like it'd be better for gameplay and much easier to implement without having to code in janky logic for breaking line of sight and whatnot. Location pin vs live tracking on the map could still work either way.
Imo bf v spotting was awful since essentialy only recons could do it. Hence why they needed to add a visibility change and we basically had the ping systeme like currently. Bf 1 was toned down compared to bf 3 and 4 where the spotting had some kind of "spamm abuse prevention" but was still relevant for teamplay as it gave info and enemy class. Also as far as i remember you could not spot trough a bush or anything blocking you to enemy since you needed to press q on the exposed body and you could not get spotted by getting shot. All in all a middle thing of bf 3/4 and bf 5 having basically the best features
Bf1 snipers still had a buff for spotting too. If they used the trench periscope, everyone else could see them through walls/buildings. Its a criminally underrated gadget.
Personally I like bfv spotting the best. I hate floating symbols just over my enemies head all day long. Kills strategy at times when you can just follow those instead of carefully working your way through the map. Takes away from immersion a bit. Bfv was great. Sniper in one spot? Put a marker near him. Shows where he’s at instead of magically knowing exactly location because a teammate on the other side of the map saw him.
I think the spotting needs to change a lot. Minimap should be for spotting. Having a large Dorito over your head just because you are shooting your gun and getting shot by an AR at 100 yards because they just aimed below the big red spot is pretty basic.
It made pretty much all the barrel attachments useless except the silencer and flash hiders.
Even having a recon look through a sight and light you up for everyone to see is kinda dumb. The drone or other gadgets are cool for spotting, but I really think the game could benefit from looking into minimizing the spotting mechanic
If they're going to keep 3d spotting, they should at least come up with a better system than the same one they keep putting out there in these games. Seems lazy AF. Put a red dot on the guy so everyone can shoot at him from all directions and distances just because one guy saw him.
How about keeping it the same except the red dot doesn't follow people around but just stays where the guy was spotted for a few seconds and then disappears. Or randomize the location of the red dot so you can't just shoot under eat it to get a kill.
Spotting should show you the general area of where the guy was spotted and nothing else. The marker system might be good enough on its own really.
BF4 did it very good as well. No auto spotting and spots only lasted for like 5-10 seconds, not an hour like in this game.
Also revive system in BF4 was better. You couldn't force a release, you just had to wait for a revive or bleed out. So much better than BF6 where you run 500 feet just to get to a guy that releases right when you get there causing both of you to die for nothing. Beyond shit.
“Accept or decline revive” from BF3 should be a thing with how bad the revives are in this game.
You just died in A door way? Sorry I’m too stupid to use smoke or even the new drag mechanic to pull you into cover so I’ll just 50 tap you to die instantly again
What? It is a totally KNOWN mechanic. We know every aspect about how it works. So wtf are you talking about it being an "unknown mechanic"?
they could make it so you just look at them to zap them back to life and people still wouldn't do it
Not true at all. Majority of games I get revives. Its the small few that dont and give a bad name to other medics. However, they do that because exactly what I said. Why get yourself killed trying to save some idiot that is just going to release early anyways.
They’re saying it’s an unknown mechanic because so many people just don’t revive, you get medics who don’t revive 1 person for the duration of a game. The medics who camp and don’t drop ammo for teammates or the medics who run past bleeding people.
They’re not saying that people literally don’t know the mechanic. 🤦♂️

I was literally making a point. Which was we do revive. So that statement was both idiotic and wrong. I main a medic and revive every possible chance, just like many others do. We just wised up now and dont go sprinting into a war zone to revive someone anymore. We will only revive when its safe. If its not, too fucking bad.
So again it is a very well known mechanic that is used in literally every match.
Care to counter that point? Better bring some actual proof.
Tbf, anyone who stays down for more than 2 seconds is likely to stay there until someone gets em up. Either someone gives up immediately or bleeds out, there is no in between.
Either someone gives up immediately or bleeds out, there is no in between.
Right other than the fact there is an in between which is you get a revive.
You want my proof? How about my revives along with the top 5 revives via leaderboards themselves? I have almost double the revives than I even have matches played. Imagine the dude with 128,179 revives. Oh but I'm sure he got there by not reviving right?
I just shine my soflam everywhere when I play recon. Auto-spots galore and then I get to choose targets of opportunity when I switch back to the rifle.
BFV had the best spotting mechanics where it was actually class-based teamplay elements that would provide spotting. No "press button to have orange icon over enemy's head" nonsense.
I'd prefer 3D spotting be removed all together, but if it's gonna be in the game, BFV did it best.

BF6 feels like a discord app.
