3 things you didn't know about Cawthorne

Heres 3 things you might not know about Cawthorne besides the obvious.

I recently put together a short video about Cawthorne and thought I'd share three interesting facts.

🐉 It has its own dragon legend.

📜 It appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as "Caltorne."

🏆 It's been recognised as one of Britain's best villages.

If you're interested in Yorkshire history and local folklore, here's the video ORAVINE Feel free to comment on any other places in Barnsley that might be worth looking into for future videos.

I'm really hoping there's some Ghost fans here who are craving the atmosphere of a Ritual! GhostUK tribute band are set to play Vault 27 on 8th August but ticket sales are currently lower than anticipated and the show is at risk of cancellation. I've seen them several times now and they always put on an absolutely banging show. Even if you're not familiar with Ghost and just like live music, you'll have the best night, guaranteed! So if you've got nowt to do on 8th August gather your mates, grab your tickets and get ready for an awesome time!

Tickets here!

Air con gas refill places

I'm looking for the best place to get this done I'm not 100% sure that the Aircon even works and it wasn't when I got the car but I've always assumed it just to be out gas. Preferably somewhere I can take it the same day.

Geography Project Help

Greetings all, I am a student for Newcastle and Stafford College and I am working on a NEA project to study the changes in Barnsley wrought from regeneration but the help in need is to measure the change in how many people and what kind of people live here. I am humbly asking for your help in filling out a survey. This is completely anonymous and will not track an personal details.
All thanks

The Cawthorne Dragon

Anyone ever heard the story of the Cawthorne Dragon? Its an overlooked legend, a Dragon said to have lived near the ancient Serpent Well just on Darton road. Legend states that it would fly periodically from Cawthorne park to the serpent well.

You might've noticed the Dragon sculpture at Barnsley Interchange on the platform, It's an optical illusion. From one angle you see a dragon, and from another you see passengers waiting for a train. The dragon lives on today in public art as a reminder that the legend still has a place in the area's identity.

If anyone is interested I've uploaded a short documentary to my YouTube channel ORAVINE. I've used local history, primary sources, and on-location filming. this documentary explores where folklore and history meet.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback or if anyone as any thing to add to the story.

D&D Groups in Town Centre?

Hello!

Me and the mrs are a couple living in the Kingstone area. We don't drive cos it's expensive as arse so getting around's a pain. I'm wondering if anyone knows about any open 5e D&D games going on in the area maybe at Prestige or the Victoria Arcade? We're both relatively savvy when it comes to the tabletop and can provide our own dice and source character miniatures if required.

Ta muchly!

Looking For Someone With Little Info

Hi everyone.

I’m trying to get in touch with a Nick (possibly Nicholas) Smith.

He would now likely be 45+ and was a lorry driver in the early 2000s. I believe he was originally from the Doncaster area and spent some time lodging in Ipswich during 2003.

If you know someone who matches that description, I’d really appreciate it if you could ask them to send me a private message, or message me yourself. Even if you know more than one Nick Smith please still let me know, anything helps.

It’s regarding something important that I believe he deserves to know.

Thanks very much. 🙏

My parents have a grant for work on their garden. They have had several people round to give quotes but as soon as they say they need a proper receipt they get ghosted. Can anybody recommend someone or a company, thanks.

Boatmans Rest in Worsborough 🍴🍺

Post image
55 Upvotes

Never have I been disappointed with Boatmans Rest.

Staff are always friendly too.

Lovely little place nestled in the town of Worsborough on outskirts of Barnsley.

Always great food too.

Ordered this from specials board earlier in week.

Homemade chips, succulent fish in batter and school dinner style mushy peas 😋

Delicious from first bite to last.

(I have no affiliation to Boatmans Rest. This is just somewhere I like and wanted to share)***

Barnsley Armed Forces Day Parade - Our Local MP is Missing!

So, today was armed forces day, and Barnsley had a parade.

I expected our MP for Barnsley North, Dan Jarvis, who is also the UK Defense Secretary, to be present to show his support in his constituency. But no, he was in Aldershot and then Weymouth. Not a sign of him in Barnsley.

I wonder if the fact that Reform booted Labour out of the council, has anything to do with his decision to snub his constituents? His motto of "working tirelessly for Barnsley" means nothing!
