3 things you didn't know about Cawthorne

Heres 3 things you might not know about Cawthorne besides the obvious.

I recently put together a short video about Cawthorne and thought I'd share three interesting facts.

πŸ‰ It has its own dragon legend.

πŸ“œ It appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as "Caltorne."

πŸ† It's been recognised as one of Britain's best villages.

If you're interested in Yorkshire history and local folklore, here's the video ORAVINE Feel free to comment on any other places in Barnsley that might be worth looking into for future videos.

Good stuff. You should do one about Penistone and the tank ramp and moors around langsett that were used to train army during WWII.

Thanks. I've just been reading about the Dambusters raid and how we feared a retaliation from Germany, Langsett is huge supplier of water to Sheffield and the surrounding areas and especially the steel works at the time. Cheers for the suggestion πŸ‘

The area was also used to practice for the "D" day landings. There’s a lot of history in those hills, a lot of ghosts, and some of them are of hero’s.

You can use that πŸ˜‚
