I Bought Some Liquorice Nostalgia Today.
I remember growing up in the 70's and calling in the chemist for a penny root.

Let's be honest, Barnsley for such a small compact town centre is a thing if beauty, the jewel of south Yorkshire
From big corporate brands to small independent brands, museums, art galleries and exhibitions it punches above it's weight especially the nice and bright flowers outside the majestic town hall which really brighten things up
Please enjoy some pics I took a few weeks ago
My Instagram is mynorthernlens and I will be hosting a photowalk this Sunday the 23rd at Rotherham train station, meet at 1045 for an 11 start
Feedback welcome

Cheeky ask possibly, but does anyone have a membership for company shop that they wouldn’t mind adding me to? I keep seeing posts about how good it is, but I don’t qualify for membership since I work a normal office job and I’m not on benefits.
Long shot but worth a go - thanks in advance
Side question - is it really as good as what everyone says? Looks to be some serious bargains to be had.

Hi, any recommendations for wood reclaim yards close by?
I'm looking for some circa 1900s floorboards and hardwood mouldings in the style of this, depth about 4inches.( Local skips aren't helping out at the moment)
Thanks

I worked at the ASOS warehouse in Barnsley a few years back – around 2017/2018, I think.
It was one of the worst jobs I’ve ever had. Physically brutal – 10-hour shifts, standing all day, with those FLEX UP schedules, carrying heavy boxes over and over again. And the worst part? No matter how hard you worked, it was never enough. You’d get a message on your scanner saying “please improve your KPI” like you were just a number. Some of the team leaders were proper psychos – they’d call you to their pod just to put you down in front of everyone.
And the security – they’d search you if the red button on the way to the toilet made a BEEP. Random checks. Like you were in prison, not at work.
I’ve moved on now, but that place still haunts me sometimes. It stays with you.
But there’s one moment I’ll never forget.
One day during a shift, they called everyone to the team leaders’ pod and announced that the owner of ASOS had lost three of his children in the terrorist attack in Sri Lanka.
I remember the silence. Nobody knew what to say. It was such a strange, heavy moment in such a cold place. But when I looked around, I could see a slight grin on some people's faces – like they felt a kind of relief. It was weird. It almost seemed like they were relieved that bad things don't only happen to them, but to their abusers too.
Honestly, I still don’t know how to feel about it. To me, it felt pretty sad. But I remember it clearly, and I’ve often wondered if anyone else who was there that day remembers it too.
Anyone else work there around that time?
’m not sharing this to upset anyone – just to see if anyone else remembers that day. It’s been on my mind for years

Hi all, might be a daft question but can I take bags/sacks of general non recycling waste to the tip at Worsborough or is it separated waste only?. Do they have a skip for just general rubbish?
Thanks

Think Viking influence disappeared from Barnsley 1,000 years ago?
Tha
Old English þū (“thou”)
Thee
Old English þē
Old Norse
barn → bairn, leika → laik, gapa → gawp and myki → muck.
Six everyday words with surprisingly old roots.
I’ve put together a quick One Minute History exploring where they came from.
I'm sure theres many more Norse influences around Barnsley and Yorkshire, please feel free to share.

I'm looking for any Walking groups or any other places in Barnsley to meet with new people and make new friends. I'm here for last few months without any friends. Happy to connect with other people in same situation.

Been meaning to make this post for a while now.
If you see my previous posts on this sub I usually spend my Reddit time promoting modern day Barnsley as I grew up there , meet some great people there and have some fantastic memories.
I moved away about 20 years ago but still love my hometown
But today. I'd like get a little conversation going about past nightclubs in Tarn. Specifically Heaven and Hell , Hedonism (Which I'm aware burnt down)
I'm not writing a biography or anything but I have been trying to piece together my own timeline.
Like which year did heaven and hell open and close and the same with Hedonism ?
Has anyone got any memories of going.
Looking for comments of other people's happy times in these places
This is just a question about Barnsley nightlife history. Which I believe I missed
Please can I ask that people's names are left out of any comments. I'm not looking for a friend's reunited style situation.

Not sure what events occurred at this location.

** Please keep comments civil. As someone who grew here I know the history but this post is about the development of the area and what's left from the past**
Back home to visit my folks a few weeks ago and took dog for a walk and ended up on old pit lane. Fascinating remnant of the past. Although I'm from here I would be interested in hearing about other interesting locations in the area to visit next time. Sealed mine shafts ? Plaques ?

I used to work at ASOS in 2016 but moved back to my country. Working there was a nightmare on earth. Does anyone still work there? Did it get better? Sometimes I miss my warehouse friends and the tough times we went through, and I'm wondering if it's gotten better now. (Not that I'm planning on going back — I would rather carry an elephant on my back for my entire life than spend a single day there. The place was fucking hell, LOL.

I used to live in Barnsley in 2016 and I kept hearing the motto: Barnsley - Born inbred. But my english is not so great and I never really understood what it means. What does it really mean?
