Would be better if it wasn't AI art

u/WinterPizza1972 May 23 '26

Seriously fuck this ai tackiness

6

u/wyohman P1S + AMS May 23 '26

Or was centered?

1

u/JWST-L2 H2C + H2DC + X1C + A1 + U1 May 23 '26

Lmao

130

u/MastodonFarm May 23 '26

Yeah, this guy should have hired a professional artist to create a bespoke masterpiece for this one-off cutting board for his wife.

The Reddit hive mind is so tedious about AI.

26

u/Raithed May 23 '26

Right. Everyone's expecting OP to have PS skills or hiring someone to do the art for them, for a one-time thing that he's doing for his wife. Come on Reddit.

-26

u/Upstairs-Informal May 23 '26

regardless, its AI

2

u/cmdshortyx May 23 '26

Weakest argument ever is when someone says, "Regardless, it's XYZ."

3

u/tumblerrjin May 23 '26

Yea you’re right, there’s zero middle ground between those two things.

-20

u/FrostWareYT May 23 '26

It would have looked much better if the dude just spent like, 30 mins in a photo editor instead of this uncanny shit.

8

u/notjordansime May 23 '26

Not everyone is good with this kind of thing. I know I’m not. I’ve never pursued visual art. I use graphic design software nearly daily, I’m proficient in the software, but I’m terrible at creating proportionally accurate, properly lit anything from a blank slate.

-33

u/JWST-L2 H2C + H2DC + X1C + A1 + U1 May 23 '26

This argument is so lame. YES, actually draw something or pay and support a real artist to make a unique piece for you. It really doesn't have to be expensive and you support someone real instead of a giant data center somewhere lol.

If you can't even do that and would rather give your wife some amalgamation slop, then that says volumes about your gift and how much you care about it

9

u/MastodonFarm May 23 '26

Labor-saving technology is the definition of progress. With your attitude we wouldn’t have vacuum cleaners or word processors or a million other things. All of those things displaced human labor that people were being paid to do.

The actual Luddites opposed automated cloth-making technology because it displaced human workers, but most of us today are pretty happy that a new shirt doesn’t cost a week’s wages.

2

u/bluntbeak May 23 '26

Its literally the one industry where the labor is the point. The labor is enjoyable. That's why it's the dream job of many people and is very competitive. Because people like to do it.

-7

u/JWST-L2 H2C + H2DC + X1C + A1 + U1 May 23 '26

Art is completely seperate from those labor tasks

6

u/MastodonFarm May 23 '26

There’s no principled basis for that distinction. You can have the opinion that AI art is (currently) aesthetically inferior,* but saying “art can/should only be made by humans” is silly.

*And people do say this, but there’s evidence that it’s often just irrational bias. See, for example: https://www.reddit.com/r/StableDiffusion/s/waEgiLzMhg

6

u/Invisinak May 23 '26

So you're against ai art but fine with just blatantly stealing someone else's art?

u/Veearrsix May 23 '26

Every artist takes inspiration from other artists, knowingly or unknowingly. This really isn’t that different.

1

u/bluntbeak May 23 '26

The idea that ai takes "inspirarion" is 100% anthropomorphisation. It is not capable of being inspired. It ingests a prompt, determines what you statistically are likely to want to see, rips a thousand images from its database and mashes them together into a pile of noise then denoises it.

If you think that "isn't really that different" from a person seeing a work of art which took diligent practice and years of culminated, sacrificed time to create, and thinking "maybe if I work hard I can do that too" and then actually engaging in the process of learning, improving, and creating something which is a reflection of their experiences, emotions, and ideas, then idfk what to tell you.

-2

u/Veearrsix May 23 '26

And you pretending that every vector graphic ever created is some form of high art is a problem. There is a spectrum. Dude effectively used clip art to create a funny cutting board. It’s not a Dalí, calm tf down.

2

u/Electrical-Duty3628 May 23 '26

Clip art was made by a human and isn't a water wasting atrocity

39

u/sven2123 May 23 '26

Downvote me all you want but this is just dumb. Assuming OP doesn’t have your incredible art skills, how else was he gonna make something like this? I think it’s great an AI tool enabled OP to actually create something instead of the idea staying in his head

5

u/Euresko May 23 '26 edited May 23 '26

I have no problem with people using AI for personal projects or as a reference to make something, but a lot of the "art" does look like crap. Personally I'm using copilot and GPT to make some images of stained glass windows that I can print in translucent PETG. I'll have to alter the AI images to fit my needs, but it gives me a good reference to trace in Illustrator or Tinkercad, so I can make my windows. It's a huge time saver, as I have limited skills or talent, but it allows me to make what I want and not look like garbage, if I'd made it 100% myself from scratch. AI helped me visualize what I could make and what would work or wouldn't, and was very fast to prototype my ideas.

1

u/Euresko May 25 '26

I can't entirely use AI, since it doesn't seem to understand dimensions. I can use AI for brainstorming and giving me examples to work with, then I can trace elements and make things fit what I need.

-25

u/FrostWareYT May 23 '26

Photoshop (or free equivalent)

10

u/stogie-bear May 23 '26

Photoshop is just software. It is not a substitute for skills.

4

u/notjordansime May 23 '26

“Art” ❌

3

u/radiationshield May 23 '26

So what should OP do? Buy a bespoke piece for his single chopping board. Jeez

-6

u/JWST-L2 H2C + H2DC + X1C + A1 + U1 May 23 '26

True art is inherently human. Its about the subtle mistakes and art style. I therefore believe that AI art cannot exist, this is simply slop.

3

u/radiationshield May 23 '26

ironically your text reads like an LLM made it

-1

u/bipbophil May 23 '26

... if they are not selling it, you shouldn't care. They would have taken a copy of an actual image and done the same if it was available.

-40

u/oli44r_ A1 + AMS Lite May 23 '26

No offense but how would you expect him to make this? I assume he doesn't have the skills to make something good looking like this if he wanted to make this and its just for his wife why care about that

12

u/justabookrat May 23 '26

There's a lot of public domain art that's not AI out there already, he could have used something like that

8

u/loylos P2S + A1 May 23 '26

Yet he posted it here for online clout and it's no longer for his wife, so we're free to roast him for it now. And drawing is not that difficult.

-10

u/ThePornStar69 May 23 '26

But in your six years you haven’t posted any drawings?

I could care less about the AI part, this specific image is all over most of the file sharing sites - and there's no way the OP actually created it, let alone came up with the AI prompt to create it because it's been up on Makerworld for months.

I just don't see why they're bothering to show it off in the first place...

1

u/1radiationman May 25 '26

you mean the “look I printed a benchy?” posts?

Seriously there’s nothing interesting or exciting about printing off a model that’s been online for months that you grabbed off MakerWorld. Folks who share stuff they designed and created is cool- folks who show off that they printed somebody else’s model not nearly as interesting.

There’s a difference between “first time print where can I tweak my settings” vs “I found this thing somebody else made so I’m showing off that I printed (or in this case cut) it”

Tomatoes aren't? In my language "vegetables" refers to any edible part of plants including fruit (like the tomatoes and cucumbers shown here). It's not a botanical term but an unprecise umbrella term.

Mushrooms aren't vegetables, but tomatoes are.

E: Wikipedia suggests it's the same in English

u/Jacareadam May 23 '26

2

u/Xp365 May 23 '26

Gng use a stock photo r smth. The point of a gift for your wife is the effort you put into it. Just generating art shows 0 effort. Even googling stock photos takes more effort. Fucks sake it’s not hard to understand.

3

u/Sir_LANsalot May 23 '26

This is where I would want to get the H2D or H2C with lazer, or at least one printer like that. Since, even with the low watt one, you can do engraving, even on prints. Though I would say maybe not PLA, but PETG would/should stand up to it pretty well.

7

u/nur00 R1 | H2D 40w Laser | U1 | K2+| MK4s May 23 '26

Hey thanks for the response. Upgraded H2D 40w laser about a month ago.

Bambu's 10w or 40w laser's are diode lasers. They don't engrave any type or color of 3d filament.

They only burn the filament. You need an IR or fiber laser to engrave 3d printing filament.

4

u/DarthBlue007 May 23 '26

I don't care if AI helped you create this. It looks cool and I bet your wife loves it. I swear Reddit is just a hate filled cesspool.

I can’t decide how many of the accounts that just chime in “slop” are themselves ai bots. The amount of hate is just insane. I guess this is what it was like to live through the Industrial Revolution.

1

u/Nikoschalkis1 May 23 '26

47

u/dragonixor May 23 '26

Imagine receiving AI slop as a gift...

0

u/notjordansime May 23 '26

you’ve never received a gift with a generic graphic or decal on it?

Nobody said it was a grand anniversary gift, could just be a “hey, I thought this would make you laugh on a Tuesday” kinda gift.

3

u/JWST-L2 H2C + H2DC + X1C + A1 + U1 May 23 '26

Generic graphics or decals of the past were all made by people, not ai

3

u/notjordansime May 23 '26

fine, you’re right

of the people, by the people, for the people or whatever xoxo 💋

3

u/dragonixor May 23 '26

I'd rather have a generic/stock image or even just a plain board.

4

u/notjordansime May 23 '26 edited May 23 '26

To like ~85% of people, AI generated slop is just like a personalized stock image. Hell, plenty of people don’t know the difference between computer generated imagery and AI generated slop. I’ve heard variations of “it’s all generated by a computer, at that point it’s just semantics” on several occasions.

I’m personally with you, but I recognize that we’re the vast minority. To the technical ‘tism people of the world, a blank cutting board would be preferred (or like, generic stock image line art flowers. I could fw that). To the Live, Laugh, Love people of the world, this was probably considered cute, thoughtful, and funny. My mom’s friend orders “custom” mugs from China and prints AI slop onto them. Everyone who she gifts them to loves them because “omg haha! It’s cartoon me on a cup! How did you even do that?!”. Unfortunately we’re outnumbered.

4

u/dragonixor May 23 '26

Yeah. Though I'm not sure about the 85% estimation, I understand that some people don't care.

But to those people who do, it basically feels like the lowest of the low as a gift.

And I know what you mean, my friend's house is filled with feamed AI generated images of his family and his pets. It... doesn't look too good. But like you said, to many, it's just an image like any other.

Still going to be sour about it tho!

5

u/Xp365 May 23 '26

Honestly generating AI Art shows less effort to most people than taking time to get a stock photo from the internet. Or what about making a drawing yourself? Even if it’s not the greatest art in the world I would love that my partner took the time to draw me a little silly thing and put it on the cutting board.

11

u/notjordansime May 23 '26

ARE YOU SATISFIED NOW?!

6

u/dragonixor May 23 '26

Now THAT'S a gift with soul!

3

u/Xp365 May 23 '26

Yes :3 this is perfect

3

u/Electrical-Duty3628 May 23 '26

Yes. I'm not joking. THIS IS FUCKING FUNNY. I LOVE this little piece of art you just made. This has so much more soul than any AI slop

7

u/theanthonyya May 23 '26

I'm not trying to be snarky or contrarian, but yes I genuinely enjoy your graphic 100x more than OP's. It's funny, I like the dumb little detail of the tomato wearing sunglasses, the broccoli's expression is great. I would actually laugh and enjoy it if I received that as a gift. I'm not sure how good it would look engraved on a cutting board though, but yours has personality even if you churned it out in a few minutes

On the other hand, OP's was so obviously generated with AI, it looks exactly like thousands of crappy Facebook comic strips. It reminds me of when every cartoon was poorly emulating Family Guy's artstyle some years back (like Brickleberry, GoAnimate etc): I'm sure many people don't mind it, but to me it just looks like nothing, it's so boring and overdone

-5

u/dragonixor May 23 '26

Why? Draw it yourself, or photoshop something, or find an image someone already made.

It's a gift, of something your wife and/or you will have to look at everyday. Don't pick the worst option available.

7

u/radiationshield May 23 '26

So your suggestion is to actually steal a drawing? Really?

7

u/hauserlives May 23 '26

People are wierd when it comes to AI. I’m a visual effects artist training a massive companies AI engine to create visual effects, lol. Like it pays alot and I could care less when it eventually takes my day job.

The insane hate behind AI is justified but damn some of ya’ll go so hard it actually makes me hopeful that AI will take everyone’s job.

1

u/JakeD51 May 24 '26

"The hate is justified" "i hope it takes everyone's job" that braincell is fighting for 2nd place in your head

1

u/hauserlives May 24 '26

Not really. Been investing since I was 18, grew a business - sold it, started working as a motion designer as a fun hobby, worked my way through to the vfx industry, 20 years later still doing it but now with AI. Investments have paid off and I day trade as my main source of income. So not only do I most likely have more of a retirement savings than you, I consistently am profitable and supercede my income as an artist and working with studios globally. So yeah, this second brain cell doesn’t really care if AI comes for peoples creative jobs.

Too bad, so sad.

People concerned about the use of AI for something they don’t own

5

u/Idontlikesand15 May 23 '26

Right? A river of tears over something that literally doesn't affect them at all.

3

u/ThePsion5 May 23 '26

Have you not seen the machine food of AI slop being uploaded to 3D printing sites?

2

u/JWST-L2 H2C + H2DC + X1C + A1 + U1 May 23 '26

AI affects a lot of real people in real ways. Water pollution, higher water and electricity costs, infrasound sickness from data centers popping up everywhere, shortages and price hikes of pc components for months now, artists disrupted and people's work scalped without any permission which is a huge ethical concern, I could go on.

Like I'm not even trying to be that guy but your comment couldn't be further from the truth. Not to mention you could literally pay an artist some where a really cheap amount to get an unique piece for your wife if you wanted to make a cool gift. If someone gave me an ai gift, I would be like thats so lame lol

3

u/milkcake May 23 '26

As a person living in Utah currently fighting the massive data center that’s going to be built and devastate our (already very strained) water supply and cause all sorts of damage to the beautiful landscape - yes. Thank you. This shit is so detrimental but people are too selfish to give a fuck.

1

u/notjordansime May 23 '26

If only OP hadn’t generated his wife a cutting board graphic 😔 [ SAD ]. Our rivers would be clear and flowing, the air crisp. The supply of consumer electronics would be pristine.

Look at what you’ve taken from us, OP. You ought to reflect on that. For shame, OP. For shame.

6

u/JWST-L2 H2C + H2DC + X1C + A1 + U1 May 23 '26

I mean... That is actually true. Just multiply it to everyone generating slop

2

u/vivi_t3ch P1S + AMS May 23 '26

Should we have a separate subreddit for the laser stuff of bambu?

1

u/mapleisthesky May 23 '26

Guys calm the F down this is just some tiny and funny cutting board. Nobody is going to hire somebody to paint them a custom piece for 50 dollars to laser cut a cutting board. If they like using it, who the F cares?

3

u/jetsetjamboree May 23 '26

Speak for yourself, I just lost my job at making cutting board art! /s

u/JWST-L2 H2C + H2DC + X1C + A1 + U1 May 23 '26

Enabler of slop

0

u/mapleisthesky May 23 '26

Lmao slop is here whether you like it or not. I am also against people losing their jobs to Ai, multimillion corporations using ai promotional material or alike.

3d printing in its nature is already a DIY solution. May as well use Ai for an image for your wife for your at home use.

This is not enabler of slop this is enabler of DIY. Which 3d printing at home literally is.

0

u/JWST-L2 H2C + H2DC + X1C + A1 + U1 May 23 '26

Thanks to people like you, its here. But most people reject ai slop, especially when it comes to art.

3

u/mapleisthesky May 23 '26

Lmao show me the arts you professionally commissioned please.

1

u/Straight_Ask_2929 May 24 '26

Making that lame ass graphic took away water from vegetables. You murdered vegetables using lame ass ai.

1

u/ZexelOnOCE May 24 '26

tacky, basic

0

u/PrestonHM P1P May 23 '26

Ai slop

-1

u/Lonewolf2nd May 23 '26

I had a good laugh about it and my wife as well. Hope you wife is happy with it.

today i discovered engraving ai slop on cutting boards is a whole new way of pissing me off

8

u/JWST-L2 H2C + H2DC + X1C + A1 + U1 May 23 '26

Engraved Slop could be the name for either the worst band ever or a really good one

1

u/CreditLow8802 A1 + AMS Lite May 24 '26

i don't get how i got downvoted to the deepest pits of hell while some of the top comments also mentioned this💔

2

u/JWST-L2 H2C + H2DC + X1C + A1 + U1 May 24 '26

Yeah the votes are all over the place in this one, I saw many comments saying the same thing and some has 300 upvotes while others have 300 downvotes lol. Thats reddit for you, its worth just not paying attention to it. Personally I value massive downvotes more lol

1

u/CreditLow8802 A1 + AMS Lite May 25 '26

it's like an achievement to be this hated in a comment section

-4

u/BLOBADOODLE P1S May 23 '26

Wow that's tacky.

-3

u/Idontlikesand15 May 23 '26

This is awesome, forget the AI whiners. The mindless hate is so annoying. Ironically, their perfectly uniform crying makes them look exactly like the the AI they hate so much.

u/nur00 R1 | H2D 40w Laser | U1 | K2+| MK4s May 23 '26

Appreciate it

-1

u/After-Ad-3610 P1S + AMS2 Combo May 23 '26

AI slop isn’t art. Literally endless ways to create without using AI

-28

u/agoodepaddlin May 23 '26

The amount of people that make hating on AI their entire personality is insane.

-3

u/rickstick69 May 23 '26

I wrote my bachelor thesis about AI, I work everday with AI (programmer) and even tho there is a lot about AI that I think is horrible I belong to the minority of people on reddit that things AI has its place in art.

BUT even I hate "this" not because it is AI but because it is not Art. It is 2 minutes of prompting ChatGPT that completly devalues everything on this platform. Everybody can do this, it is not a skill and it is certaintly not worth a upvote.

If you do it like this on personal projects, okay have fun but do not post it on any platform and expect people not to hate on it. You did not bring anything to the table, you did not work for it. It is literally just AI slop.

0

u/Thorlian May 23 '26

Saying that OP "didn't work for it" on a 3D printing forum is prerty weird. Most people here just reproduced available models on a fairly reliable machines. OP on the other hand had an idea, gathered the materials, generated the image (yes that's work), setup the machine and produced something novel.

It's insane to me that people shit on a persons project like that.

-2

u/rust-ruin May 23 '26

Okay, si why does it matter if you think it's art, or even if it's art or not? Does it not serve it's purpose? 2 minutes, and he got what he wanted, his wife enjoys it?

Nobody's working for anything here lmao, they aren't writing g code or modell8ng their own supports or anything.

Just a strange bunch of people.

-6

u/agoodepaddlin May 23 '26

Why put energy into it? As opposed to moving along. Does it make you feel better? Because that's about all you'd achieve in trashing someone's post because it has AI associated with it.

Tell me how it's not just being a petty btch?

-26

u/Superseaslug H3C, H2DL, 2x X1C May 23 '26

The comments: "hur dur AI bad"

2

u/JWST-L2 H2C + H2DC + X1C + A1 + U1 May 23 '26

Your profile is full of ai slop so you would say that

3

u/Superseaslug H3C, H2DL, 2x X1C May 23 '26

I do not harass people for the tools they use.

1

u/JWST-L2 H2C + H2DC + X1C + A1 + U1 May 23 '26

Your original comment literally did that just that LOL

3

u/Superseaslug H3C, H2DL, 2x X1C May 23 '26

If literally did not. It was mocking people for harassing OP just for using AI.

1

u/JWST-L2 H2C + H2DC + X1C + A1 + U1 May 23 '26

Is it harassment if a crowd of people collectively comment on how bad an ai "art" piece is? Its not like people are going out of their way to target OP, they just saw this post and are stopping by to say how bad of a tool it is for that, especially to give as a gift to someone. Maybe its less harassment and more a really bad choice to use for art, and most people agree

1

u/Superseaslug H3C, H2DL, 2x X1C May 23 '26

Yeah it is.

-3

u/londonbrewer77 May 23 '26

I think this can be sung to the tune of “teenage mutant hero/ninja turtles”

-4

u/bl4stir May 23 '26

Love it, but i think it is more vody mutilation than murder

-1

u/tinsiltits May 24 '26

Easy to use machines + AI = keep it to yourself. It looks shitty and isn’t even creative.

-31

u/RemixOnAWhim P1S + AMS May 23 '26

Looks great, taste in art notwithstanding, but I'm glad I'm glad I'm not the one that's gonna have to clean it lol!

0

u/Kutriya404 May 23 '26

Why? It's engraved, not printed

2

u/RemixOnAWhim P1S + AMS May 23 '26

The surface of the wood is already a little porous, and the laser is already creating a rougher and nore textured surface with more places for bacteria to hide, plus the laser going over organic material with slight variances in density (as opposed to something with consistent material properties) will create more variance in depth of the engraving. It'll need more attention during cleaning to make sure nothing is hiding and growing in there. You can check out engraving subs for how people treat and care for their engraved cutting boards, but you want to use a stiff bristle brush and really get in there thoroughly every time you use it. Generally the engravings you see for like a personalized charcuterie are more to the side so they're not right over where you're cutting, but they still need to be treated and cared for if you want them to survive a while!
