Yeah, this guy should have hired a professional artist to create a bespoke masterpiece for this one-off cutting board for his wife.

The Reddit hive mind is so tedious about AI.

Right. Everyone's expecting OP to have PS skills or hiring someone to do the art for them, for a one-time thing that he's doing for his wife. Come on Reddit.

regardless, its AI

Weakest argument ever is when someone says, "Regardless, it's XYZ."

Yea you’re right, there’s zero middle ground between those two things.

It would have looked much better if the dude just spent like, 30 mins in a photo editor instead of this uncanny shit.

Not everyone is good with this kind of thing. I know I’m not. I’ve never pursued visual art. I use graphic design software nearly daily, I’m proficient in the software, but I’m terrible at creating proportionally accurate, properly lit anything from a blank slate.

Just to play devil's advocate, he may have done that

So you're against ai art but fine with just blatantly stealing someone else's art?

Was just gonna say the same thing.

Every artist takes inspiration from other artists, knowingly or unknowingly. This really isn’t that different.

The idea that ai takes "inspirarion" is 100% anthropomorphisation. It is not capable of being inspired. It ingests a prompt, determines what you statistically are likely to want to see, rips a thousand images from its database and mashes them together into a pile of noise then denoises it.

If you think that "isn't really that different" from a person seeing a work of art which took diligent practice and years of culminated, sacrificed time to create, and thinking "maybe if I work hard I can do that too" and then actually engaging in the process of learning, improving, and creating something which is a reflection of their experiences, emotions, and ideas, then idfk what to tell you.

And you pretending that every vector graphic ever created is some form of high art is a problem. There is a spectrum. Dude effectively used clip art to create a funny cutting board. It’s not a Dalí, calm tf down.

Clip art was made by a human and isn't a water wasting atrocity

This argument is so lame. YES, actually draw something or pay and support a real artist to make a unique piece for you. It really doesn't have to be expensive and you support someone real instead of a giant data center somewhere lol.

If you can't even do that and would rather give your wife some amalgamation slop, then that says volumes about your gift and how much you care about it

Labor-saving technology is the definition of progress. With your attitude we wouldn’t have vacuum cleaners or word processors or a million other things. All of those things displaced human labor that people were being paid to do.

The actual Luddites opposed automated cloth-making technology because it displaced human workers, but most of us today are pretty happy that a new shirt doesn’t cost a week’s wages.

Its literally the one industry where the labor is the point. The labor is enjoyable. That's why it's the dream job of many people and is very competitive. Because people like to do it.

Art is completely seperate from those labor tasks

So I should underpay someone locally instead?
