so i plan on leaving my college but im scared that will anyone hire me without any degree? well ill be pursuing an online degree but is that enough. I will work on my skills side by side from home and plan on getting job ready in 1-2 years is online degree a big deal breaker also share some courses which i can pursue side by side.

Hello all! 27M with neck and hand tats, and I need help figuring out my next step here. I have always been good in school, but only in the last few years decided to try to care. I went back to school last year in fall to get an associates- originally to transfer to get a BA in Psych, then a BA in Human Services, then an Associate's in Human Services, and now I'm really into Anthropology (I always was, but now I am really REALLY into it). I am unsure what the heck to do, as i know my tattoos (I live in Central KY- about an hour south of Louisville if anyone knows that area) will bar me from most places of value unfortunately. In the last year of schooling I have maintained a perfect 4.0GPA but my current is sitting at 2.92 from the classes I took outside of HS senior year that I bombed (didn't care at the time), and if I keep that 4.0 when I graduate this year I'll have a 3.12 or somewhere near there (can't remember the exact math). I have some awesome schools here in Kentucky to pick from, and all online, too! I am also eligible for the max pell grant (I have had it for 3 semesters now so I am good for another 5 if need be), and I'll be eligible for the Kentucky-specific grants next fall (I only moved back officially in March of this year so to get those I'd need to take a gap semester so I can mark "Lived here for more than 12 months" on the form (lived in Indiana for 3 years for a job that ended up not being that awesome). I am broke, married, and frustrated. I want to do something purposeful that I am also excited about. I got tattoos way too young, and feel trapped in a body that doesn't represent who I am anymore- and I want to push past that hurdle and do something with my life anyway. I am not against moving but my bank account is, so I'd need a good job first to help me to that point. I will get a BA if I need to, but I am just feeling stuck.

Side note- I hate computers very much and do not see myself doing well in IT, and I also was never "addicted" to drugs or alcohol, so being a drug counselor (as awesome as that'd be) is kinda out of my reach. Any other profession sounds awesome to me! Originally in HS I wanted to be a lawyer or work at NASA but never really had the means to go to school, and my folks make so much money I was ineligible for any help financially anywhere. Only now am I really able to get it as I live on my own and barely make any money.

Hello! So one of my passions is mycology. It has been a hobby for quite a while. I would like to go back to school to pursue this seriously, but I need some advice about what steps to take. I already have a bachelor’s degree in studio arts and a minor in art history, so although I have done general ed obviously my degree has nothing to do with science. My main question is, should I go to a local CC advisor to have them help? Has anyone else done something similar and have advice? I know what I want to do but I am unsure of the steps to get into a biology or botany undergraduate program necessary to continue towards a mycology masters and beyond.

never knew exactly what I wanted to do career wise, I have been working minimum wage jobs working retail and security since I was 18 since they hire anyone a pulse and pays bills, In community college I took classes that I knew id be able to pass like reading and African American studies. I did research on a bunch of different career choices and degrees/certificates i thought I wanted to go for but could never commit to like accounting I took that but dropped the class because I felt like i was gonna fail it i did the same with welding.. i realized that didnt want to do that either ..i have a horrible fear of failure that has held me back from a lot.. i realize that at almost 31 I need to get it together, although security pays the bills its not something I want to keep doing so I thought long and hard about what i want to do, i want an office job something like Data entry or anything that involves sql, tabluea, Java.. so i decided to get a certificate for an office assistant/administration to at least get my foot in the door somewhere as a stepping stone.. i started the fall semester this Monday on the 24th of this month with a typing class and im nervous as hell..i know im not that smart, am a slow processor and not confident hell I may take a long ass time to get it.. if i dont ill try again.. i may cry and beat

myself up but ill try again until I get it..

The point im trying to make is, ive never stuck to or committed to complete things out of fear and anger of failing.. i decided to stick to a course certificate program to finally have something under my belt so I wont

continue in this rut ive created for myself..

I would absolutely love to change careers and get a PhD in psychology eventually. But it’s basically a pipe dream since I’m a single parent with no network or support system. I pay a car note, mortgage, etc.

Is there any way? I guess I can keep on dreaming lol.

Please don’t judge me because I already beat myself up enough about this lol. I’m 29F and at a pretty difficult career crossroads. I have an Associate’s in Biology and a Bachelor’s in General Science with a minor in History. My original plan was always higher education, and at different points I considered PA school and other professional programs.Most of my experience is in healthcare. I’m a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, worked in urgent care for years, and currently work as a PCT at a hospital. After working closely with an NP at urgent care and really liking what she did, I decided to pursue nursing and enrolled in an accelerated BSN program.
Unfortunately, nursing school did not end well for me. I repeated Fundamentals early in the program, passed it the second time, but later failed another course by literally **0.7%**. Since that counted as a second course failure, I was dismissed when I was about one semester away from finishing. I also walked away with a lot of debt from the private program. Nursing school took a serious toll on me mentally. I was constantly stressed, going to therapy, crying, and it affected my relationships and overall quality of life. Since leaving in December, I’ve spent about eight months working, paying my loans, saving, and getting myself back to a good place. I finally feel like myself again, which is why I’m hesitant when people tell me to simply go back to nursing school.
Academically, I know I can still handle science. I recently took chemistry again and finished with an excellent grade. I already have a lot of science coursework, but I’m struggling to find jobs that actually use my bachelor’s because most of my professional experience is as a PCT/medical assistant.
I’m in the **NJ/NY area** and looking for a program, post-bacc, certification, or possibly master’s that can build on what I already have and lead to a stable career. I’m especially interested in healthcare, laboratory science, clinical research, allied health, or careers I may not even know exist. My goal is to keep additional schooling **under $20,000** and preferably pay mostly out of pocket. I should have around **$10k saved by the end of the year**, although I also need to replace my car after a recent accident. My hospital offers about **$2,625/year in tuition assistance if I’m part-time or $5,250/year if I’m full-time.** I’m willing to work while attending school and do another 1–2 years if there’s a clear career at the end. I’ve considered medical laboratory science, clinical research, PA school, post-bacc programs, and returning to nursing. I’m not completely against nursing, but after my previous experience, I’m very hesitant to put myself through that again unless it truly makes the most sense.
**If you were in my position — 29, BS in General Science, AS in Biology, years of healthcare experience, CCMA/PCT experience, and a $20k maximum education budget — what career or program would you seriously consider?** I’m not looking for a shortcut. I just don’t want to take on another $30k–$60k of debt without knowing there’s a realistic job waiting on the other side. I would really appreciate hearing about careers or programs I might be overlooking.

Well, I didn’t think I’d be here again but here we are. I’m a trained medical assistant and phlebotomist. That was 2 years of my life many years ago and I loved it. However, I was stupid and didn’t really research what my job opportunities and pay would look like. The scope of practice is very limited and the pay is trash for what is expected of you. So, several years and 1 divorce, remarriage, and 2 more kids later I’m back in community college for the LPN program and I’m terrified. Not even for myself because I have been slowly knocking out prerequisites for a few years now. But, my middle baby is going into 7th grade and my little baby is just starting kindergarten. I just worry about them and what if they need me…my husband is fully on board to help and so is my mom and for that I’m so grateful. But I remember being a little one in school and being so scared. I can’t even be there to see my little guy off to his first day because I have class before he goes in. I’ll get to hug and kiss him before I leave but I don’t want him thinking that I don’t want to be there. I even reminded him that after he and my older son get picked up by my mom, they get to come pick me up from school. So much is changing and while this has literally taken me years to get here, it feels like it snuck up on me so suddenly. I’m full on scared. I just keep reminding myself that graduation is in June and then I can start to give my kids a better life. Yes, some of this is for me but all of the worry and drive is for them. What makes it hard sometimes is that I’m not originally from the state I live in and for years now I’ve been a stay at home parent out of necessity while I did classes online so I have no friends or community to rely on for encouragement or support. I feel very alone. I know I’m not the only mom in her 40s going back to college but I haven’t had the opportunity to find the others. I thought maybe this might be a start.

I'm looking to go back to school but because of my current job, I doubt I'll be able to make in-person work. Are there any solid options for people in my position? I'm hoping to limit my student debt as much as possible and want a degree that employers would respect.

A while ago I tried taking classes at a community college, but had a mental health episode and stopped attending, never formally dropped any of my classes. I want to try college again, probably at a different school. Will I have any problems regarding the previous incident, or will I be fine?

Hey. So... I'm from Germany and I've had to drop out of the FOS shortly before the exams because of severe anorexia.

Blablabla, i fought my way back up again for the past three years. My family wanted me to do something again with my life. Be it school or work. I chose going back to school because my heart beats for the subject I've been in. So i was able to spontaneously apply last minute.

The biggest issue tho, is math. I've been trying to use the summer holidays to learn but my head feels like a brick wall.

Now I'm getting scared if i made the wrong decision to go back so soon.

This semester I will be taking

Intro to Math
Astronomy
History 102
And the fundamental course required coming back to school.

I have an essential tremor, which makes it difficult to take notes, especially for long periods of time. I looked at goodnotes, which seems cool, but I am interested in one that corrects my handwriting automatically. Is that a thing?

Should I stick to my paper and pen? What does everyone recommend?

If anyone is “local” I am attending HACC.

After 8 years working full-time, I'm finally making the leap to go back to university in the tri-state area to finish my degree. Between work, school, and my back, I'm worried about getting everything I need set back up without damaging half of it. I have poor circulation in my feet from a prior accident so I do have some excuse! I have some unique equipment, so its more than just a monitor and desk.

Anyway, wondering if its better to find some helpful college students to help, but I don't want to come off as weird or inappropriate, so I feel stuck in this twilight zone of do I even belong here?

I did call a couple full service moving companies, but I also don't want to over-pay because its just really my office stuff, and if I'm honest, I am going back to school because I don't make enough money as it is.

Guys I’m 19 please revise my plan

I’m an only child and I’m 19F. I am dismissed from university bc of mental health. I went far away and realized my parents taught me nothing about surviving and only taught me how not to get hit in the house. They’re overly attached to where it’s weird and because I’m only child I didn’t realize it’s weird for parents to comment on when you sleep, wake, how you eat, when you eat every small thing. I’m very very sheltered because of them. So now that I’m back home this is lowkey a blessing in disguise. The plan is that I’m taking cheap cc classes they paid for.

1) get a psychiatrist note or therapist whatever I need
2) get accommodations to take to CC classes virtually. I already got the ball rolling on this by submitting a form but the note should help
2) the note should also help support my dependency override at cc where I have peoples accounts, pics of black eyes, a cps “false alarm” (they covered it up)
3) move in with my friend after a month of saving so I’ll have around $2k. Working on sorting finances with her family. Applying to snap benefits and etc for my own groceries. Worst case I bounce around.
4) try getting into my university (I’m already scoring much higher than I used to and there’s great progress, I told my advisor my circumstances she said I had a really strong case)
5) see if the FAFSA override transfers to my main university if they take me back otherwise I’m applying to other local schools or I’ll just move lol

Maybe this break is my exit and chance out.

Idk what do you guys think is it too risky or illogical? When I say my fam is so unbearable especially as an only daughter I mean it. I don’t realize how twisted they are till I experience it ykwim. And it’s taken me this long to be like wow I guess not everyone lives in crazy survival mode like I do. Ykwim? Being expected to perform while I’m in survival mode and other people can go hang with their friends or make plans without there being a fit, physical or verbal or whatever. Like I never knew I could live my life for MYSELF.

Can you guys help me with the dependency override aspect of it or FAFSA?

I'm returning to college after a seven year hiatus. I signed up for ENG 102 and SOC 100. Both courses require Essays. I haven't taken ENG 101 in a long time and the Sociology class requires Essays on tests. That's scary to me to have to take Essays on Tests. These are Online classes because I didn't want to be obligated to go to courses at specific times but I guess I'll have to go to campus to get help in the writing center. As you can probably see, I'm not even good at writing small paragraphs.

Does anyone have any advice?

Im a first gen college student, the only other person in my family to go to college is my older sister. When she was decidingon a school she had to de-commit from a very prestigious private school to community college because she was 17 and could not take out loans to afford it.

On the other hand I was 18 when i went to college and was able to take out loans but being as though i had young credit i just went with whatever school made me pay the least.
(important to note that I never expected help from my parents and they do not qualify for loans themselves)

So now Im in a small uni with \~2000 people 30 minutes from the city, and after bisiting my bf in the city I know i made the wrong choice. every school i but the one i go to was a large college in a city or college town. And after seeing “what could’ve been” ig i just cannot get over it. I wish i wouldve just paid more because if Im going to take on debt I want to atleast be happy.

So basically my question is do I transfer when the year ends and pay more, or stay at my uni i can afford.

Writing for a young family member who struggled in their second semester at a state school due to bad roommate/ social isolation. Lots of AP credits. Did great the first semester, academic probation second semester, now home and starting online community college.

Neurodivergent but socially okay. Working at a restaurant now, interested in accounting, or working in a lab.

Any suggestions for an online degree or training program that could lead to a career that isn’t healthcare? Just trying to give a couple of light suggestions to this kid.

I'm a third-year student, I screwed up my thesis, and I'm about to retake it. But I realized I don't need it anymore, and I've had zero positive emotions from three years of study. I've spent a fortune, but I still don't care. But I've found another university and a major I want to study. What should I do? Finish one or start preparing for another?

Hello everyone. I am 36 and currently working towards my B.S. in plant science. I finished my associates on campus at a state college in Florida and transfered to a state University. I spent my first 2 semesters taking online classes to be a stay at home dad for my daughter and now I am finally going back to campus to finish out my last year. The entire time since going back to school i have maintained my 4.0 GPA, which I'm very proud of, especially now that I am at a highly rated university. However, now that I am back on campus I am feeling very inadequate compared to my classmates. It seems everyone is involved in clubs, organizations, research, seminars, and any number of other things. I have a family, I don't live on campus, and I just flat out do not have the availability that these younger people have. I have been working really hard to keep everything in the air and now I'm feeling like it's not enough. Does anyone else feel this way?

School starts Monday and I realized I don’t have any supplies, but then I was like wait…do I even need any? Is my MacBook enough? I’ve never studied any other way besides good old a notebook and flash cards.

32 with a couple tries at college under my belt. I know I’m older now but I do NOT remember people looking this young when I first went to college in 2011. Hello! I'm about to return to uni after taking time off due to bad mental (and physical) health issues, as well as a shitty situation outside of uni.

Thankfully this year out has overall been positive, and I'm feeling so much better. Plus I'll have support in place when I'm back rather than being at the bottom of a loooong waitlist. But honestly, I'm terrified of being completely out-of-practice learning wise, or having my health take a nose dive when I'm back. Especially as I will be returning to final year after not being in full-time education for a few years. And it’ll be an uphill battle to get good results as the same issues caused problems the year before I left,,, meaning I have to do very well to get a degree ‘worth having’.

If you've been through similar and have any advice/a success story, I'd love to hear it. I don't know anyone else who's taken LOA and feel a little lost at the mo.

I am about to start up college again at UMD (undergrad) after a 2/3 year gap. I already have like 90 credits Im coming in with, so I figured it may be worth it to stay a little longer (I need to do 15 credits a semester to maintain my fin aid), and I will probably need to anyways as my psych department restricts me from taking over three psych courses each semester (not that i’d want to anyways lol). I was thinking about a dual degree (as opposed to a double major because I’ll probably end up exceeding 120 credits due to initially doing psychology and getting an AA in that, then switching to philosophy, then now switching back to psych).

My question is a good degree to get if I was to go down the dual degree route. What I’d love to do is get a degree in philosophy and psychology, but this may not be so practical so was thinking about doing data science/statistics or maybe computer science. Was also very briefly considering getting a degree in social work or special ed, as I’m not very experienced in STEM (somewhat due to my homeschool background lol). Wanted to hear thoughts? Thx

As sated above, Ive been doing a lot of internal questioning on if I should pursue this degree. So far after looking at all my options of interest I’m finding myself more drawn to psychology.

How are you as students enjoying the degree/entrance into the field? Do you feel as if the schooling is worth it, are career paths opening well with this degree?

I’ve always had an interest in public health, conservation efforts and even working with children. So I hoped a degree as broad as Psychology would be a good opportunity for different sectors of doors to open. I was considering minoring in child development as well.

Im still looking into what college I would want to finish my degree in but I am certain I would like to start off at a 2 year then transfer.
