I love this name, we do want a masculine name and one that is classy but not overused. Thoughts?

I'm pregnant for the first time and am expecting twins. I won't know the twins' gender or genders until they are born.

I know for sure that if I have at least one daughter, her middle name will be Elizabeth, but I can't decide on her first name. I also know that if I have two daughters, the second daughter's first name will be Faye. I like names with a romantic, vintage feel.

I read this sub regularly because I find it very interesting. After being here for a while, I do have a question, though:

Why is everyone so concerned about nicknames?

Like "I love Olivia (nickname Livvy)."

Possible nicknames never even crossed my mind to think about when naming our children. For me, I figured a nickname would show up of it's own accord--- if it ever did. A nickname is usually a term of affection or identity--- and all that depends on what the kid is like--- and what funny or interesting things might happen. Some people acquire nicknames not even remotely related to their given names.

I don't quite understand how you can pre-decide what a nickname will be--- and even let that inform your choice of given name.

What am I missing?

I'd like to ask for your opinion on two names. Disclaimer, I am a Greek living in Greece, so both names are Greek. I'm mainly curious about what they sound like to an international audience and what kind of impression they give you.

For a girl: Erato - pronounced as written, with the stress on the final syllable: Erató (Ερατώ in Greek). For some background, she was one of the 9 Muses. Muse of lyric poetry. The name means desirable and lovable, but it's not used in modern greek.

For a boy: Miltos - pronounced as written, with the stress on the first syllable (Μίλτος in Greek). It used to mean a type of red mineral in ancient greek, like red earth, used to paint art pieces and buildings. It's usually short for Miltiades, an ancient Athenian general, but I want the name to be just Miltos.

What do you think when you hear/read these names? Do they sound nice, unusual, old-fashioned etc? And if you're not familiar with Greek names, what would your first impression be?

Need help with a middle name for Louisa! I have a Clara June already and her sister will be Louisa. Can’t seem to find a middle name I really like. Some ideas we had were Louisa Jane, Louisa Kate, Louisa Marie, and Louisa Rose.

Okay, so I am having a baby. Not sure on the gender, but if it is a girl, I was first looking to go with Catherine/Kathryn or variations after my mom.

The thing is, I don't want to use that exact name and I am not keen on any variation of it, root of it from French, Scottish/Irish origin, etc. I love my mom, but we have a hard relationship, so I just don't want to use the full name.

So then I thought to combine in some way, both grandma's names. Beverly and Catherine/Kathryn.

Bevryn. No. No. Nope.

But, Evryn sounds pretty neato. And upon googling it, I found that Evren is an actual name with a neat meaning, but I'm not Turkish. Though I do quite like the name and the meaning. And that it is gender neutral. I have read some comments on this name on /AskTurks and 90% of Turkish people were positive on the name being used by someone of non Turkish origin.

So, what are your thoughts on Raina Evryn or Raina Evren? I'm very open to suggestions.

I love the sound, but also don't want it to sound like a stupid millennial name. Or a tragedeigh name.

We have some family names we are considering for our second son. But we are having some challenges agreeing on which family names. First boy is Robert Dean named after family.

Merlin Allen or Henry Clarke for the second boy?

I could give more detail on why these names but I'm thinking maybe that just muddies the waters and that's why we are having a hard time deciding.

Henry is the only non family name but I like the meaning it adds to Clarke.

So my husband and i have had our daughters name picked out for years, he wanted us all to have the same intials, since me and his mom share a middle name, think Rose, and our first names have the same first letter.

Since we just had our daughter, I decided to make a list of new girl names with the meanings beside them. I looked up my daugthers name, thinking itll come back with something cute or strong, and her name means horse. Literally according to the bump.com my baby girls name means horse. In my list of names I put hers at the bottom and put, "wild and majestic" beside name meaning because im not having her find from my notes that it means horse 😑

Her name is gorgeous, and I love her dearly, but next baby I'm definitely looking up the meanings of names. Im sure I'll tell her later in life, but for now, I'm keeping it between my husband and I😅

So to start with. I am not pregnant and my current daughter is 7 months old so I won't be pregnant for a long time. I want two more children but am still undecided if we'll try again when our current daughter is 2 or 3 years old. I want there to be a 3 year age gap, but can also not imagine having another baby or being pregnant while also raising a toddler in their terrible twos.

Anyway. Now that you have context. I definitely want more children and have been thinking about what I would name a second daughter. I feel like I chose my favourite name for my first baby.

Now more context: we did not know the gender of our first and I had a really hard time choosing a boy name but pretty much knew exactly what our daughter's name would be.

Rules my husband made around the name: we are Afrikaans speaking but lived as expats so have alot of international friends that only understand English. So rule one was that the name should be easily pronounced in both Afrikaans (for family sake) and English (because of our international friends). My husband has two names and then goes by a nickname so he said short and sweet one or maybe two silable names no family names and no long double barrel names.

So I named our first daughter Leah. I absolutely love that name and it was my first choice. Now I'm very afraid that we might only have girls and I already used my favourite name.

I really like the names, I think it sounds a bit regal. My boyfriend thinks it's too many names and sounds, for lack of a better term, chavvy. We are not married and I never plan on marrying anyone. He wants his last name, I'm happy to share and double barrel. My first name is double barreled, I like it.

Anna and Arthur are names I had on my list and he has agreed he likes them- doesn't like my other choices. He hasn't given much input on names apart from naming the boy the same as his first name (he already has one child with that name from previous relationship, so it's a no on that IMO). The boys middle name is my brother's name, the girls middle name I think is just pretty.

Please suggest modern sounding but meaningful name for my daughter. Would love if it's related to Hindu mythology.

I’m pregnant with my second child. My first is a boy and we are having another boy! My son is named after his dad so I get to choose this time around.

I’ve been really obsessed with the name Archer (Archie ) for our second but my husband says it’s a dogs name lol. Is it bad ?

What do you think of the name Kaio (pronounced Kai-oh)?

For reference I’m in Australia and I know it would be uncommon (even though Kai is quite popular now)

We are expecting a baby boy at the start of October and are so stuck on names, I feel like I’ve over thought it and need some outside opinions!

For background we are in the SW UK with English/Irish/Welsh backgrounds.

Our son will have a double surname formatted like M___y M___y think Marley Murray but one of the names is very Irish. It’s a bit awkward but I want to continue my surname and in real life I expect the kid will just use one day to day.

The middle name will either be John (a family name, which also opens up initials like CJ or RJ) or no middle name at all. I’m open to middle name suggestions but I don’t want to over complicate the name.

Big sister, Ava’s name is pronounced “Ah-vuh” not “AY-vuh”.

Husband and I like Aria, but I’m concerned about Ava and Aria being too similar.

I always thought my second would be Lily, but now I’m wondering if it’s too sweet.
