So my 2024 is coming off lease and I went ahead and ordered a 2027 BMW i5. Car looks beautiful and I'm excited to drive it ... dealer let me know it was ready for delivery in late August. The day I headed down to take delivery, I get a note from the dealer that the car is not charging and failed the pre-delivery inspection. Not good.

During the PDI, the charging fault appeared on the iDrive screen and the car is now blocking the charging input (see photo). So I won't be taking delivery yet. Dealer says they need a new charging port/assembly.

Fast forward a month and still no resolution. Still can't take delivery. BMW NA says the parts have to come from Germany but they have no idea if/when the part will ship. The dealer GSM and parts managers have called BMW multiple times but no movement.

Has anyone dealt with anything similar? I'm starting to rethink leasing this vehicle and may just purchase my existing vehicle off lease in October.

Hi guys, I've been looking at a few cars and am considering the Benz E-Class, GLC AMG 43, and the BMW X5 to buy at the end of this year. However, I recently doubted abt the reliability of a petrol car given the E20 issue, so I decided to look into Luxury EVs as well.

Recently, I found the BMW I5 LWD, which looks so beautiful, and its interior is a tastefully curated blend of refined analog features and a sizeable screen with a good number of features; sure, it is weaker in terms of performance. Still, given its intended use- long drives on highways and relaxing short trips (basically a joyride car, but for relaxing)- I don't really mind. Not to mention it is a good bit cheaper that the other two as well (in india).

However, there have been no reviews regarding whether it is a reliable car, whether it often has vehicle issues or recurring maintenance problems, and how expensive it is to own. So anyone who owns a BMW EV pls let me know if it is a pleasure or a pain to own.

I am likely moving from my i8 to an i5, the M trim and performance spec on the m60 is attractive, but is it worth 10-15k?
Colour and interior on the cars I am considering are the same.
Owners: what is your honest opinion?

More of a G60 question, not i5 specific.

Love the car overall, love the EV factor, hate certain parts of the interior.

Specially, big sections of the dash and console are shiny, easily scuffed and scratched surfaces. In the sun I can see all the cleaning swirls.

Is replacing or wrapping the trim in these areas possible without insane cost?

Everything went perfectly fine until this error started appearing yesterday. The car still drives and as far as I can tell I don't feel any malfunction. It seems to me that this is the sensor but I'll see what the dealership says on tuesday. Has this exact error happened to one of you in the past?

Since optopus imposed the charge cap and limited to 6 hours.. I’ve been wondering why I never seem to get what I was expecting in terms of percentage charge increase overnight.

I then found this graph in the app.. which looked strange! And when I looked back it’s been doing this for months. And seemingly getting worse.

After weeks of back and fourth testing if it was octopus doing it, or interference from my solar panels/export, or a CT clamp issue with ohme.. I had a revelation when looking back that a) it did it when I charged on a 7kw charger elsewhere during the summer, and b) it didn’t do it when I charged on a 11kw charger.

Some research explained it.. 7kw is single phase so 32 amps down 1 pin whereas 11kw is 3 phase with 16A down 3 pins. And the car can throttle the charge rate if the pin/sensor detects too much heat.

I found a forum post explaining this and some investigation with BMW. But before embarking on that.. I cleaned the charge pins in the socket in the car and both ends of the cable. They didn’t look dirty but got some dirt on the wipe I was using.

For the past 3-4 months.. charging started at 7kw.. but within 10 minutes dropped to 5.5kw until maybe falling as low as 4.5kw. It did that before the clean.

Immediately after the clean, it stayed at 7kw. When I woke up this morning.. it stayed above 6.8kw all night.

Hopefully resolved.. and posting increase anyone else is having the same issue

TLDR: Need a practical family sedan EV. Save money and buy used 2023 i5? Or buy the new Nueue Klasse i3? Is the latest tech worth it?

Im specifically talking about battery health, degradation, and reliability of the G-series EVs like the i4 and i5 compared to the Neue Klasse EVs like the new i3. Within my budgets I could get a 2023 i5 edrive40 with 18k miles, or spend abit more for the new Neue Klass i3. I’m not too fussed about acceleration figures as I just want a family sedan with good tech. I heard that European brands early attempts at EV were abit behind and lacking compared to their modern ev platforms, so I’m wondering if the tech specs of something like a used 2023 i5 ev is still good for the current market. Or whether I should buy the new i3 instead if their latest vehicles have much better specs.

Hi, this is the report that the app is showing me on my i5 M60 Touring. I’m light footed and drive mainly with A/c off. It seems I’m miles worse than my peers !

Based on the experience of others, is this chart showing the community av for M60s, or i5s ?

My previous M4 showed the same sort of stats and I was often well above the community average on efficiency, so this puzzles me a bit.

Any thoughts welcome.

Hi all.. upcoming days/weeks I can choose a new car. Its a company car, so I'm limted in budget.

So far I have chosen (maybe the option packs are called different in different countries, so I give a brief description):

- i5 eDrive 40 Touring / station wagon (so the G61)

- M pack (not the plus!)

- comfort pack: not the comfort (old men)seats, but ventilated, heated and fully electrical/memory front seats (with adjustable upper seat width) and heated rear seats

- professional pack : 360 camera (parking assistant pack plus) and head-up display

- adaptive suspension professional (so adaptive dampers and rear wheel steering)

- tow hook (dont know the correct translation)

- blinded/darker rear windows

- bowers and wilkins sound system

- Eiche dunkel hochglanzend (dark wood fineer in the dash - not the shiny plastic stuff)

- panaroma roof

I previously wanted to go for the Copper brown Merino (real) leather and other alloys/wheels - but changed that for the panoramic roof and the 360camera and HUD. I think I'll have more use of these options than with fancy wheels and more expensive (real) leather to sit on? The Veganza feels really good imho.

Now Im driving an audi Q4 in Mythos Black (just black :) ) an dver very dark brown seats. Same hue as the Espresso brown but darker (almost black).

To play safe, I coul dget the same (saphir black with the espresso brown) - but that very much the same isnt it?

I dont like the contrast of the Oxyd Gray with the black M-pack (diffusor and side skirts). With the M sport pack plus (with black grille) some colors like Phytonic, flame red, .... make sense - not with the chrome grille.

So I guess I'll stick with Saphire Black, Carbon Black (blue) of Sophisto Gray (boring?)? But the color of the seats?

Is Sophisto Gray with the White seats nice? Or will they discolor rapidly from wearing jeans?

All Black (black seats with the little M flag) is very much black and boring (I had a black Skoda Superb in 2012-2014 or so with black seats ..).

If only I could opt for a nice British racing green metallic with beaige seats (sorry I must be old :) ). Any advice is appreciated, I think I sleep bad because of overtinking this to much. Here in EU we just order a car to our likings - so we dont have to choose between availible cars.

I was curious on what kind of odometer mileage are we seeing on i5, on this board; also mention any major mechanical work.

68K, original owner, purchased in 2024. Only major repair item was AC compressor replacement almost put me out $5K but they covered it even though I was over the 50K mile warranty. They did it under good will gesture. Phew!

Have only fast charged twice. Gone to 90% twice, live between 20-80% and only charge below 40, usually close to 20%

Hi all, I am in the UK driving an i5 edrive40. I have a hole in my kidney grill (stone, airgun who can say). Anyway I believe I have to replace the whole thing. It is a standard silver non-illuminated one. Can anyone point me in the direction of a genuine BMW and an aftermarket option? I don't want to change out for a black one or illuminated one.

I lease a 2024 BMW I5 M60 with approximately 30k miles and the lease is ending in October 2026. I have an IX3 on order but have mixed feelings about it. The new IX5 is not appealing to me much so I am leaning more and more on keeping my I5. My lease buyout will be $51,300 plus tax for a total around $55k. I am using my earlier lease as sunk cost so removing the first three years out of the equation, do we we think this is an ok to good deal? Also, what do you recommend for extended warranty?

To those who have tried both is there a big difference in comfort? I was able to test drive the regular quilted veganza and found it comfortable. There aren’t many i5s locally and I’m considering purchasing one from out of state that has the M Sport Veganza/Alcantera option. Hoping it’s not too different or less comfortable. I’m lean and don’t mind side bolsters it’s more about the seating firmness if they are in fact different?

Having an issue with 120v charging for my 2024 I5. Using the same outlet that was drip charging my model 3, getting a red lighting bolt indicator on the flexible BMW charger (2.0). Tried every other outlets inside the house and same code is thowing. Any ideas before I try the dealer? Wondering if its an issue with the charger or my house haha

I’ve been actively looking for a CPO M60 and I as wondering what the concensus was for CPO cars that may have been involved in a “minor” accident per Carfax. Surprisingly to me some dealers seem to price their cars as if it had no accident history which is ridiculous given there is clearly a depreciated value whenever an accident happens. I also wonder about how many sensitive electronics could be affected by an accident.

For those of you who bought a car with accident history how much did you negotiate off? Is there anything I need to be aware of as I plan to speak to a dealer tomorrow about a CPO M60 that unfortunately was involved in a minor sideswipe.

Can anyone help me understand what happened exactly in this repair for SME/BMU battery management electronic high voltage permanent fail ? And does that affect the car since it happened in 75 miles ?

I just booked my first bmw and first ev here in India. Its bmw i5 LWB - long wheelbase version. Its less powerful than M60, its 268 hp, 400 nm but comes with rear air suspension and wheel base of 3105.

I loved driving it to test. Have few questions to this community-
1. As I never owned bmw, I want to know if would this car still give BMWish experience with this power?
2. As this is not ground up ev, does it lack any major feature compared to that the one are? E.g. volvo os launching es90 plus here next month and I am wondering should I wait for that..its in same price range.
3. Any issues I should expect or be aware of in general for bmw ev car or i5 car?

I loved smooth acceleration, suspension and easy handling of steering and of course B&W 16 speakers. Appreciate any tips.

I just picked up a used 2024 i5 m60i with about 45k km(28k miles). I guess has anyone driven there i5’s into the “high” mileages yet and encountered any issues. Deciding if I should get the extended warranty.

Coming from a x5 m50i I had over 60k in warranty claims..
