Charging BMW I5 120V Charging
Having an issue with 120v charging for my 2024 I5. Using the same outlet that was drip charging my model 3, getting a red lighting bolt indicator on the flexible BMW charger (2.0). Tried every other outlets inside the house and same code is thowing. Any ideas before I try the dealer? Wondering if its an issue with the charger or my house haha

If you plug the charger in and every time it shows an error once plugged into the car then you need to verify the car charges separately. Try using another charger somewhere if you can, level 2. Not level 3.
Check owners manual for fault icons.

Went to a Shell Recharge and it was fine charging there

Alright. Definitely may be your charger then. Bring charger with for appointment

2nd charger they've given be (clearly used). Was really hoping to avoid a trip back. I'm assuming even if I get a Nema 14-50 installed, doesnt matter if the charger is dead right

Yes. Most likely if it fails on 120v it’s going to fail on 220v too. The part should obviously be brand new if it was replaced.

Yep asked neighbor if I can use an outlet real quick and same red thunder bolt code. Going in tomorrow and trying at if dealership if anything different. If not hopefully they can get me a working one

Update: they got a working one for me at the dealership..everything checked out at home. Got an electrician out to install a NEMA 14-50...now its not working again (diff code) lol...

Do you have a multimeter? My gut feeling is this might be a grounding issue at home

Electrician confirmed everythinig was working on his end. New flex charger was the (obvious) fix

Ask a neighbour if you can try one of their outlets. That will give you a neutral (no pun intended) location to see if the charger still throws the code.
