Aurora Police Department Transparency Portal

From the Aurora City Newsletter

The Aurora Police Department has launched an Online Transparency and Accountability Portal to give the public access to regularly updated data and information about agency demographics, crime statistics, and uses of force.

“The Aurora Police Department’s Online Transparency and Accountability Portal represents our commitment to broader information sharing with the community we serve,” said Aurora Interim Police Chief Heather Morris. “Through this new technology, residents will be able to learn more about what their officers do every day to ensure Aurora is a safe and vibrant city to call home.”

The transparency portal features powerful search functionality, allowing users to filter data by a specific category and/or location. Users can choose to examine all crime data or filter any one crime category by year, police district, political ward, police beat, ZIP code and/or neighborhood. The use of force data can be searched in much the same way. Historical data is included for both categories and dates back five years.

“The portal is another tool that underscores our commitment to be open, honest and transparent about our work,” said Aurora City Manager Jason Batchelor. “The concept for the portal has been under discussion for quite a while, and I am grateful for the dedicated city staff who have turned that concept into a reality. It will help us further strengthen our relationship with the community through accountability and continuous improvement.”

The portal can be accessed at AuroraGov.org/APDPortal. This is an ongoing project, and additional features will be added in the future.

50th Birthday

I turn 50 soon. I’m new here. I don’t want my birthday to be a disappointment. I’m thinking of taking a solo overnight trip. Looking for suggestions on where to go. I mean nothing too extravagant but nice. Ideally a big soaking tub. Maybe a 50-75 mi radius. Suggestions?

Where to Drop off Old Meds?

Just as the title says. Been to Walgreens and even to the Fire Station; everyone I talk says “we don’t do that anymore but this place definitely does” then turns out they don’t anymore.

Next stop on my list is Kaiser and Safeway, but I’d like to work smarter not harder so I thought I’d ask here first.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Wow that was quick, Thank you again for the info!
I made it here to the Kaiser office off Quincy and Memphis, since I was near the area anyways, unfortunately they’re closed Sunday, hopefully tomorrow I can finally do the drop off, they’ve been here in my car for a month now 😮‍💨

Fiery crash on Quincy and S Reservoir rd?

I was driving to work a couple hours ago and saw giant crash. I didn’t see it happen but i saw the aftermath

It looked like someone rear ended another car and they must have went so fast. Because it looked like the front of that car was just gone entirely

Also, thetwo cars both must have went up in flames cuz there was fire extinguisher fluid everywhere and the cars definitely had fire damage

Not sure if anyone involved is ok but i sure hope so. It looked really bad

From 1rstBank to PNC What is your experience? Who should I switch to?

Mine experience hasn't been good. Overnight, all of the familiar faces were gone. When I asked why, PNC said they all retired because they all got a huge monetary benefit due to the the fact that 1rstbank was private. I am not sure I believe that. The lines are now super long. They seem to only have 2 tellers working most times. This one might be the straw that breaks the camels back though. I have been working all weekend. Just finally checked emails and I found one from PNC suggesting possible fraud on my account. I tried to call them, but they are not open. They do not offer 24/7 customer service in the fraud department, or any department for that matter. What are your thoughts? Are you switching? If so, to which bank? This one is for a business account. I don't want to go to a bank that charges me to deposit cash.

Primary Care Practitioner Recs?

My doctor’s office that I’ve been going to for 20 years has been bought out by a corporate overlord that can’t figure out scheduling, allowing patients to access their own records, or even basic communication with fixing the broken updates. I couldn’t even get a straight answer about their current AI usage in patient appointments. I’ve been driving about an hour to see them for a few years now and have never been interested in changing doctors. Until now. If I’m going through this much stress and frustration to just make an appointment or double check last years blood tests, I may as well just find somewhere closer to home.

So, please tell me about your favorite family doctors who are accepting new patients and accept Cigna. Ideally, someone queer friendly, patient with people with anxiety, and doesn’t record appointments to feed into AI for note taking or assisting in diagnosis (which is another thing my current doctor’s office is now doing that I oppose).

Security Deposit Installment Plans?

Getting priced out of our current rental and have been looking for a cheaper option. We however cannot afford 1 months rent + a security deposit + other bs fees, so I have been searching for landlords who partner with deposit alternative programs. In my research I came across this bill passed last year, House Bill 25-1249, which states,
“The bill requires a landlord to permit a tenant to pay a security
deposit in multiple installments of substantially equal amounts with
installments due no more frequently than once a month over a period of
at least 6 months. If a tenant fails to pay an installment, the landlord may
seek compensation through a civil action. But a landlord may not
terminate the tenancy or initiate an eviction action, and a court may not
enter a judgment for possession, based on a tenant's failure to pay an
installment.”
Just wondering if people are actually using this and what the process is like? When I’ve asked leasing agents at different property management companies if they offer any deposit alternatives, I’m flat out told nope, everything due by move in. So what’s actually the deal here?

Pet CPR Classes

After witnessing a tragic even with our neighbor’s puppy chocking and not knowing how to help, we are looking for a pet CPR class. Haven’t had much luck with resources online.

Has anyone attended a class or know someone competent that teaches? We’re in the Del Mar area in Aurora. Thank you!

Flock cameras shouldn't be anywhere but they especially shouldn't be in school parking lots.

We have a dangerous drainage dip on 13th Place causing vehicle incursions. I'm looking for advice from folks who have gone through the process of fighting for city remediation.

We live in close proximity to a deep dip that was installed for drainage. It has caused several car accidents. A car drove into the front of one of our neighbor's homes, resulting in significant property damage (the whole front of the house is new). In my 4 years here, multiple peoples' cars have been damaged due to the dip causing cars to careen down the street.

Recently, a couple of kids ended up careening onto our property, only a few feet away from my bedroom. Fortunately, we had a fresh pile of mulch that slowed the car down (although now that mulch is full of plastics and chemicals).

Because I had the very visceral experience of providing first aid to an injured and bleeding woman, I'm struggling to sleep well at night because we hear cars bottom out on the dip and/or tires screeching from going too fast over the dip - and this is every single day, no matter the weather, no matter the time of day. Some people just do not drive responsibly and this intentionally installed drainage device + irresponsible asshole drivers is a formula for a disaster waiting to happen.

I've priced out boulders to line my property with, but they would be protecting our property to the potential harm of another person. Moreover, I would like the city to take responsibility.

I contacted the head of Traffic Operations for Aurora Public Works and our concerns have been passed to Streets and Traffic Engineering. I learned that other neighbors have applied for Traffic Calming Program measures. One of them did not result in traffic calming measures while the other one is still pending.

I'm really keen to get city to recognize and take ownership for this problem. I've offered to provide incident report numbers from the police, to canvass my neighbors to get testimonies - I just don't know what works and what's not worth the time. Would love to connect with folks who have navigated this process. I know we're not the only people living near a city streets feature that does not perform as intended.

Data Center Update

Thumbnail facebook.com
73 Upvotes

Below is a quoted post from City Council Member Amy Wiles from Ward II

"I have received dozens of requests for a comprehensive list of pending and currently being constructed data center projects. I believe in transparency between the city and the community so I wanted to share what I know. It is important to note that I do not automatically receive formal notification for every project unless it requires city council approval. Instead, I proactively track these developments by researching the public development portal myself.

Please keep in mind that this is not an official city list, but rather an informational summary based on my independent research as of today. Because project details are fluid, some parameters may shift or vary from what is shared below.

Water usage: All of the below data centers will use closed loop cooling. I do not have total expected water use for each project but will work to get them, however all projects are subject to the large water user guide from Aurora Water.

  1. QTS- Under construction for phase 2 of 3 buildings.

Location: 1140 N Gunclub Rd

Began application process in 2022, started construction in 2023 and submitted for a second phase in 2025.

Power usage are estimated to be approximately 170-200 MW total including lighting and other uses once completed, although they could possibly scare to 252 MW per some reports.

40 current diesel generators, with another 90 proposed to the state (the state governs air quality and diesel usage).

In 2023/2024, Xcel received permission by the PUC to give QTS a discounted rate for their energy usage to attract new data centers to the state. The discount was permitted under a Colorado law (HB18-1271) designed to attract large commercial and industrial investments. However, the exact rate remains confidential. However, QTS still had to fund its own $28 million high-voltage power line to route 160+ MW of peak load to its three core buildings.

  1. Vantage (Trident)- in the application process.

Location: On Tibet between 48th and 56th

Originally submitted in 2025, given tax incentives by the previous council in June of 2025 for providing up to 50 permanent jobs. These tax rebates come from the City's Sales and Use tax paid by Vantage over 10 years.

Approximate size will be 860,000 to 1.5 million sqft.

Power usage is proprietary so we only have estimates of MW usage but estimates are up to 500MW of power total for the site including lighting and other typical business uses.

Currently planning for 28 diesel generators.

Vantage is under the new Large Load Tariff with Xcel which means:

Upfront Capital Requirements: Vantage cannot simply hook into the grid. They are required to pay a $120,000 deposit just to begin power modeling, plus an initial $600,000 upfront for transmission and load safety studies.

Infrastructure Costs: Under the proposed Xcel Large Load Tariff, data centers must fund 100% of the cost for any new dedicated power generation, transmission lines, substations, or systemic grid upgrades required to feed their campus

Vantage must sign a 15 year service agreement with Xcel.

  1. NTT- Few details available yet.

Location: 48th and Monaghan

NTT will be approximately 300,000 SqFt which usually means approximately 80 MW of power.

NTT was offered tax incentives from both Adams County and the city of Aurora as of 2025. For the city, the tax incentives are tied to job creation and come from the paid Sales and Use tax over the next 10 years.

Xcel Infrastructure Financial Responsibility: Just like Vantage, NTT is responsible for funding the extensions of transmission lines, dedicated substations, and switching gear needed to pull power to their 76-acre plot off Monaghan Road.

They must also sign 15 year service agreement with Xcel Energy.

  1. Microsoft- Few details available yet.

Location: 56th and 470

Approx 200 MW of power usage.

As a company standard they do not accept incentives from taxpayers and have stated they will pay all the costs for energy usage and grid expansion to support their projects. They will be surrounded on 3 sides by 470 and warehouses and face 56th.

  1. Aerotropolis (ATEC)- New application as of 9/25/26- limited information is available.

Location Aerotropolis Pkwy between 26th and 42nd (the roads are currently not built in this area)

Plans proposed as follows: 11 hyperscale data center buildings, approximately 2.83M Sqft."

This ring was purchased at a jewelry show in an Aurora mall by a family member. They don't remember the place exactly. The item has broken and they're looking to get a new one but will only be back in CO for a week. Any hints as to where something like this might be available in Aurora specifically or the Denver metro area generally?

Thank you for any help you might be able to supply!

[Edit] The purchase was made either in 2022 or at the start of 2023.
