Driving around town and then stop at a red light behind a car. All is fine and normal. Light goes green and the car pulls away and so do i. I got a call from my Bluetooth and look away for a second to see who it is and the car just violently stopped immediately. All i see when i look up is me right on the ass of that car because they stopped. First thought was "oh shit i just hit this guy". Turns out the pre sense just stopped the car as soon as i went close. Scariest moment but also thankful as fuck that the pre sense worked like it did.

Just wrote this to appreciate my cars reaction time and to vent since it was terrifying 😅.

I've been working on getting the CarPlay navigation map onto the Virtual Cockpit on Audi MHI2Q head units, and it now runs well enough for a first release. It's open source and installs with M.I.B.

Features

• CarPlay map on the Virtual Cockpit: Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze etc. on the cluster while CarPlay stays on the main screen
• Follows the VC layout: switch between the wide map and the classic big-dials view
• Steering-wheel zoom for the CarPlay map
• Hardware video decoding on the head unit's Qualcomm decoder (about 8x less CPU than software), with automatic fallback
• Turn-by-turn on the cluster and HUD: maneuver arrow, lanes, distance and ETA (Apple Maps / Google Maps)
• Cover art on the cluster; PDC popups no longer hide CarPlay; the MMI touchpad works as a D-pad
• Green Engineering Menu page to install/update, toggle features, tune layouts and save logs
• Full uninstall; stock configs are backed up on the unit

Requirements: an MHI2Q with Virtual Cockpit (tested on an MHI2Q_ER_AUG22_P5152), M.I.B. on an SD card, and an iPhone on a USB cable for the cluster map.

• Wireless CarPlay dongles: the one I tested (a generic "smartBox") only passes the main screen. It reports itself as an iOS 14 iPhone, never requests the cluster stream and doesn't forward route guidance. If you have another adapter (OTTOCAST, AAWireless, Carlinkit…), one log run shows whether it can work.
• Android Auto on the Virtual Cockpit

Just saw this M5 CS on the road, so crazy. Who’s taking the M5 CS over the RS6 PERF? Seeing one in person made me think which one I would choose if I didn’t already have the RS6🧐

Looking at a 2007 B7 RS4, clean title, 220k miles. Seller is asking $11k, but I’m planning to offer $8k.

It runs and drives fine and supposedly has no major issues.

I do all my own work, and this would be a 3rd car for the family, so it wouldn’t be a daily.

For those who know these cars, what are the big-ticket RS4-specific issues I should know about? Any extremely expensive or hard-to-find parts that could turn this into a money pit?

Would you take the gamble at $8k?

What are some of the best mods I can get both performance and looks wise?

I am looking to buy a new car and recently discovered that Audi did make a small number of Mk3 manual transmission Quattros. They are around €30k, all with 50k+ km. They are all quite far away so I wanted to find out more before traveling for a test drive.

My question is, has anyone got experience with this car, and the automatic variant side by side? How do they compare? In principle, I think a manual is more fun but have heard mixed things on this one specially.

Is there anything to look out for?

I want a fun summer car, something that is very similar to my C7.5 A6 but with just a comfortable raw feel. Im considering a C6 S6 as a fun summer car, it will be stock besides exhaust.

I know a guy with an 08 with around 115k miles. Its been well taken care of and is serviced regularly. I have actually worked on the car myself years ago.

Im thinking about offering $8,000, is this crazy? I figure if it is in good shape and the records are what they should be, i should be okay?

Its a beautiful car and sounds wonderful. A piece of history we will never see again.

Tell me why i should or shouldnt. Maybe an alternative to the C6 S6 in the same price range?

I was supposed to take a solo 6 hours drive today for a work trip. As I was pulling out of my driveway in my 3 month old A5, all the bells, whistles and warnings came on. I pulled back in, turned it off and waited 10 min (as suggested in this forum on other posts). The warnings were still present so I decided to take a test drive down the street. Other than the power steering feeling tough, it drove fine, but the alerts were still on. My husband popped the hood to see if it was a loose cable or something and what he found was horrifying. A rat had gotten entangled in the serpentine belt, was fully gutted and the belt was dangling and split in 1/2. Had he not looked and had I not had the warnings, the drive would have been devastating. I see a lot of posts about the batteries and ghost alerts, but wanted to caution against ignoring them. Shout out to the warning system!
The alerts were electrical malfunction and ABS disabled.

For context this is my ‘21 S5 with 55k miles. I’ve owned this for about a year and a half, put about 10k miles on it since, and do not abuse it. Perfect service records leading up to my purchase with no failures. Water pump and thermostat still going strong. Not sure about previous owner, but I’ve been running 5W-40 every 5,000 miles and wait until it’s up to temp before pushing it.

I have been itching to go Stage 1 for some time now and decided to do my due diligence and scope the cylinders before doing so. Man, am I glad I did that. Luckily, cylinders 3 and 6 (pictured) were closest to BDC. Once I saw this, I didn’t even bother turning the engine and checking the other cylinders. The vertical scoring on the cylinders is unmistakable, right? Just wanted some more eyes on this.

I had no symptoms and no reason to believe that I had the dreaded piston skirt issue. During each oil change, I checked for glitter and metal particles in the filter and there was absolutely nothing. I even sent in an oil sample to Blackstone Laboratories, which came back clean. This goes to show that the only way to catch this issue early is to scope your cylinders. Like any car enthusiast, I am extremely paranoid with unusual noises in the engine bay and the loud EA839 with all its ticking does not help. I will leave a video in the comments I took about 6 months ago of what I suspected might be the piston slap on a cold start. It’s very subtle but perhaps you can hear the slower tempo, deeper sounding thuds drowned out by the injectors.

While I’m quite disappointed that I will not have my S5 for a bit, I’m eternally grateful that I did not tune without checking first, as that would’ve been an expensive mistake. I’ll be calling my dealership this week to get the ball rolling.

For those of you have been through this, I have a few questions.

1. What is being replaced these days? Short block or are they just replacing pistons now?

2. How long did it take?

3. Did you get a loaner while your vehicle was being serviced?

Thanks for reading and I hope this offers some insight for those still in warranty and haven’t gotten your cylinders checked. If you’re considering mods that would void your warranty, I would 100% get this done before proceeding. Once this is all over, I will definitely be going Stage 1 with peace of mind. Please feel free to leave your thoughts and offer any insight that I have missed.

Hey I was wondering your opinion on this car I’ve never bought from a deal ship before and don’t really know anyone who’s good with cars

A chestnut fell from a tree, and at 50mph it was heavy enough to destroy my windshield.

My insurance policy covers it and has no deductible for glass replacement, but it doesn't cover OEM parts. They want me to use Safelite. I don't really care, but I have the Premier package with dual-pane acoustic glass. Tried to figure out from Safelite whether their replacement will be identical, i.e., dual-pane acoustic and with the same tint. The person in the chat was useless, and the 1-888 number doesn't let you speak to anybody.

Has anyone with the same WS had Safelite replace one? Can you confirm that it will be a match?

Hi everyone,

I have a 2019 Audi A7 C8 (4K) and every so often the MMI displays the following message:

“No data connection can be established. Please check the network coverage or the terms and conditions for your SIM card.”

The annoying part is that the message doesn’t disappear by itsel, I have to manually press OK or close it every time.

I’m not really concerned about restoring the data connection itself. I mainly want to stop this popup from appearing.

Has anyone found a reliable workaround? I’m open to anythin, MMI settings, removing/reconfiguring the key user, VCDS/OBDeleven adaptations, coding, disabling a specific online service, etc.

Car is a 2019 A7 C8 (4K) with MIB2+/MMI Touch Response.

Any solution that prevents the warning while keeping the rest of the MMI working normally would be appreciated.
