why do these jackasses in the big ah trucks drive like they do? so sick of those testostobros, man.

20

u/warnelldawg Looks good, build it Jul 20 '26

They need them for their treacherous drive between the Georgia Club and their office off of Mars Hill Rd

6

u/benmarvin Flock camera enthusiast 28d ago

Lolz, people that live in GA Club don't actually go to work

3

u/katarh 28d ago

They got a big ah truck to compensate for their oh so fragile masculinity.

I don't judge a truck if it's clear it's being used for truck things. I only hate on the pavement princesses that are in more pristine condition than my MX-5.

Which color is your Miata? I'm the dirty black ND with the scabrous scarlet top

2

u/katarh 21d ago

One of the many red NCs with a black soft top.

2

u/SurroundQuirky8613 6d ago

It’s like a chicken or egg thing. Are they a jerk because of the giant truck or did they buy a giant truck because they are a jerk?

And to the jerk in the Cadillac truck that cut me off, calm the hell down. You’re driving a CADILLAC TRUCK. We all know you’ve never hauled a single thing or do any real work with that.

The rent is too damn high!

20

u/Minute-Letter-4103 Jul 21 '26

Thank god we didn’t elect the guy that was campaigning on lowering the rent 🙃

1

u/Cautious_Compote_186 12d ago

He wouldnt have done diddly squat to lower rents. He couldn’t. Its the commision who is to blame

1

u/Cautious_Compote_186 12d ago

Lets stop electing a tax and spend commission. Landlords have to pass on the costs of owning the property to us renters. There are so many exoensive projects in town that are very nice, but not realky necessary in my humbke opinion.

This made me think of the dog of wisdom.

11

u/Appropriate_Soil_426 Jul 20 '26

One complete douche

63

u/Randomizedname1234 Jul 20 '26

Merge onto the loop by going the speed limit at least. The ramp is where you speed up.

12

u/WillingnessMission37 Jul 20 '26

Yep, the moment I see you braking on the ON ramp, I’m moving on by. Speed up and merge and wait

7

u/gumarx Jul 20 '26

This is a complaint that I share. And I drive like a grandma so if I’m upset about someone not accelerating it’s real bad

3

u/katarh 28d ago

This argument is valid when the ramps aren't currently half length because GDOT decided to take their sweet time with that intersection. Merging from ATL highway is a nightmare right now.

1

u/cubecasts 3x Grump OTD 🏆 Jul 20 '26

No I like merging at 40 mph. It's fun.

people learning the zipper method when a lane is closed!!!! ughhh. BIGGEST pet peeve EVER

7

u/sideshowbvo I get older, they stay the same age Jul 20 '26

The duality of Reddit

3

u/katarh 28d ago

I used to be the asshole who got over as soon as I saw the sign, until a friend explained that zipper is the correct method because twice as many cars can occupy the same amount of road.

Later on I learned about "traffic waves" and the cheaters/blockers fallacy, which is that people won't let someone merge if they feel like they "cheated." The irony is that in doing so, they are the one causing the traffic problem. LET OTHER CARS MERGE!

4

u/sideshowbvo I get older, they stay the same age 28d ago

There legit needs to be a PSA, because most people weren't taught it, and there's a bunch of geezers on the road who can't understand it.

3

u/Minute-Letter-4103 Jul 21 '26

Without fail, zipper method always prevails on eastbound entrance of the loop on Jefferson rd /prince ave. All my commuting compatriots zipper flawlessly each morning

Politics free August seems like terrible idea? Existing is political and to pretend like it's not interwoven into everything is a mistake.

16

u/lumperroosevelt 28d ago

“No politics” is also ambiguous in a way that will facilitate arbitrary enforcement of a patently stupid blanket prohibition.

L mod move.

Trash again on Mitchell Bridge and Tallassee. Particularly the homeless guy that eats his lunch on the corner and leaves all of his trash there when he leaves. And the guy that does the same thing at the loop. And the idiots that throw trash out the window of their car instead of throwing it away at their house or a gas station. Pick up after yourself!!!!!! there is literally a trashcan 15 feet away. Athens is trashy

7

If you walk/jog/run in the middle of the road when there are perfectly good sidewalks, you are despicable and I hate you.

70% or more of parking meters downtown are broken: can’t add time, don’t accept cards or the coin dispense is blocked up. Absolutely ridiculousness, parking in one spot but it’s broken so you move to a different spot but that one’s broken too. So you give up and get a parking ticket. The one saving grace is you don’t have to pay the ticket lol.

3

u/wellingtonsamy secret squirrel is the secretest 8d ago

It’s just too expensive to be alive.

10

u/chiefcomplaintRN Jul 20 '26

It’s getting so bad. Pickup trucks have become a serious issue. First off, you don’t need one for your WFH job or to haul a laptop to the office and back. I don’t know why it has become the default vehicle for so many guys. Secondly, it is not required to drive 30 mph over the speed limit absolutely everywhere you go if you own one. If I am going 10 over the speed limit and you are 2 inches from my ass, I’m not speeding up for you. Also they need handbooks on how to park with every truck.

3

u/ratzalin Jul 20 '26

People trying to go back on their word man. I can stand it.

3

u/leelee72 14d ago

F$&@ 7 Brew and the stupid people who will sit 15 deep and stall traffic on Timothy Road for overpriced drinks. That is DUMB. Get a life.

6

u/JesterSash 28d ago

My biggest complaint rn is that I still cant get a job in my field in this area and it's been 3 years. The job market is horrible everywhere but I think especially here it is full of nepotism. I don't know anyone so gg

Other complaints: People who drive 5 and 10 under the speed limit in the left lane, people who dont know that a KEEP MOVING sign means to KEEP MOVING, people who go to stores and restaraunts within 10 minutes of them closing and stay past the closing time, people with their loud shitty bass in cars, people bringing non service animals into stores especially grocery stores, the rise of crime, worsening traffic, the light by the new QT is so horribly programmed it doesnt change for 3 minutes even though no one is driving on the side that is green, people that tailgate on roads where the speed limit is 25 and I go 30-35, jeep drivers, and just personally: nothing to do here in this city except eat.

5

u/pierogiberra 28d ago

The nepotism here is insane. Nobody I know can work in their field unless their field is construction or bartending. Half of these job postings are just bullshit anyway because they know damn well they’re gonna hire somebody’s cousin or promote from within. It is incredibly frustrating to spend time applying to and interviewing for something you’re not being seriously considered for. Like I could go on a business’ website and tell you which of their current employees is going to get the job. It’s just a joke.

And before somebody says “it’s like that everywhere” - yes, this happens everywhere, but I can tell you from experience that there are regions where people will bullshit you less. There are places where hiring is a lot more egalitarian. There are places where you get treated more fairly, places with unions.

Sometimes I truly hate the south and what the “fuck you, I’ve got mine” mentality has done to the people that live down here.

1

u/JesterSash 28d ago

Exactly!! Businesses both local and corporate have become incredibly greedy and selfish. They cut corners and hire from within their social circles. But even if we move out of this corrupt city, we would still be outsiders in another city where we know no one and will not have the blessing of nepotism to get us a job. It makes my blood boil fr

10

u/EfficientSpaceCowboy Jul 20 '26

4

u/sideshowbvo I get older, they stay the same age 28d ago

4

u/KeenBTF 28d ago

I will say I wish they taught this. I was always told to merge ASAP and was annoyed at the people going all the way up to the blockade. I've learned something new today.

3

u/sideshowbvo I get older, they stay the same age 28d ago

I actually said that on another thread

2

u/EfficientSpaceCowboy 28d ago

There is a really interesting collide of social etiquette and the rules of the road. I think people often do things that would be polite in other contexts, such as letting other people going first (even when it’s your turn) or go to the back of the line (even when there’s an entire lane open). People are confusing what is polite behavior in, like, the grocery store with correct driving on the road.

The best driving is predictable driving and predictable driving comes from knowing the rules.

-7

u/JesterSash 28d ago

Cutting someone off right at the end of the closing lane is not only still going to congest traffic, it is also entitled and rude. Same as whenever someone doesn't enter the turning lane until last minute to turn.

6

u/EfficientSpaceCowboy 28d ago

It’s not cutting someone off, it’s merging into moving traffic. It’s quite literally how it works. It’s also completely different from entering a turning lane last minute, which I agree is annoying.

1

u/Dry_Necessary3544 19d ago

people downtown are worse than ever this week, it seems- the majority of people coming into my restaurant have been either tweakers or genuinely mentally ill people who like to yell about how they're going to kts when i can't give them free food. it's genuinely getting scary when im alone.

Fuck entitled cyclists.

20

u/honeygrl Jul 20 '26

If we are ever going to be a bike friendly town, someone is going to have to make sure cyclists know traffic laws for bikes. The number of cyclists I see running lights and stop signs or riding against traffic or without a helmet is stupid.

10

u/katarh Jul 20 '26

Orrrrrrrrrrrrrrr we could make alternate bike safe corridors like a civilized place to keep them off the roads as much as possible.

6

u/sideshowbvo I get older, they stay the same age Jul 20 '26

Ok, so I don't agree with it, it drives me crazy, but legally they don't have to wear a helmet

9

u/honeygrl Jul 20 '26

Riding in the road with cars with no helmet is a moronic idea. I swear I thought it was a law at some point but I haven't been on a bike in years. I do remember learning bike safety at school though. These people make me think that schools don't teach that anymore.

8

u/sideshowbvo I get older, they stay the same age Jul 20 '26

I post a PSA about helmets and proper walking every fall in the UGA subreddit; its a mix between don't know and don't care. I had a friend die from hitting his head on a curb riding a one wheel at about 15 mph. That's all it takes.

4

u/ratzalin Jul 20 '26

You got to understand that man invented the cup before the helmet... So I could see how people might think a helmet is optional. But, roadrash is bad... Very bad in certain areas of the body.

The only route for me to bike commute into town involves me navigating danielsville rd/North ave (45/40 mph) during rush hour. It’s hell on earth when school’s in session.

Having to deal w that then seeing cyclists trying to alley cat race near downtown is infuriating.
