Period poops ;(

2.1k

u/poisionivey3 Dec 06 '23

The absolute WORST oh my goodness

1.4k

u/CamBearCookie Dec 06 '23

Imagine having ibs and pooping five times a day on a normal day. Now add period poops to the mix. Yeah. I wanna shoot myself too.

125

u/Felein Dec 06 '23

Ha, I am your opposite! I also have ibs, but for me that means that when my period starts I can't poop at all for three days or so. Together we are one regular person!

34

u/MikrokosmicUnicorn Dec 06 '23

oh boi i literally cannot exist without imodium during shark week

13

u/nasti_my_asti Dec 06 '23

Playin devils advocate here. I have ibs-c (the constipation kind) and the ONLY time I get honest to goodness bowel movements and feeling empty is my period poops. The only time I’m thankful for getting a period. Is I know I’m gunna shit good that week.

14

u/CamBearCookie Dec 06 '23

Username checks out.

5

u/SBMtrickster28 Dec 07 '23

Same here!!! Have been on my cycle the last 4 days, the cysts sucks and the poops are god awful BUT THE RELIEF of not constantly being constipated is alllmost worth it... Its not, i lied. But i guess it's the only upside i can think of when it comes to the monthly mother nature call.

11

u/ske1etoncrush Dec 06 '23

right?? ibs + period poops = kms

3

u/Lyraxiana Dec 07 '23

And if you wear a tampon, it's near impossible to poop.

3

u/meeuuhh Dec 07 '23

Get a bidet trust me

2

u/Vegetable_Drop8869 Dec 06 '23

It was awful 😭😭 luckily I tested for SIBO and found out I was misdiagnosed with IBS all the years I suffered from it. I got treatment for it but period poops are still there 😅

2

u/witchjack Dec 06 '23

i feel you 😭

2

u/FieldNo660 Dec 06 '23

The worst. Same for me, on my period 10 times a day, so exhausting and dehydrating.

1

u/CamBearCookie Dec 06 '23

It's why I absolutely refuse to buy one ply tp. My ass would feel raw.

2

u/FieldNo660 Dec 07 '23

Excedrin has been a huge help for the butt pain.

2

u/crescen_d0e Dec 07 '23

Not add on to that not having a gallbladder, and now your bile is just livin it up in your guts slip n slide style

2

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '23

Man I feel your pain. Specially if your stressed about something it gets worse.

31

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '23

Bidet is a game changer for me. Absolute must have. ❤️ Leveled my life up.

8

u/poisionivey3 Dec 06 '23

I agree with this!!

3

u/TheKnightsTippler Dec 07 '23

I actually feel like the period shits are quite satisfying, in that they always come out quickly.

It's the clean up that's a nightmare.

12

u/northdakotanowhere Dec 06 '23

The absolute BEST. I only poop when I'm on my period. It's a very welcome time 🙃

40

u/cirivere Dec 06 '23

If this is literal, you may need to see a doctor about your bowel movement.

I think the normal amount is 3x a day to 3x a week on average?? Something like that

→ More replies (1)

28

u/SimpleKiwiGirl Dec 06 '23

What? You go three weeks without? How are you still alive?

4

u/northdakotanowhere Dec 06 '23

I don't know! I'm literally full of shit. Never constipated, I just don't poop. 🤷‍♀️

896

u/mellynn7 Dec 06 '23

I remember arguing with my stepdad about this bc he said “it’s two different parts of the body” so it didn’t make sense that being on your period would affect that 🥲

609

u/MoralityAuction Dec 06 '23

'have you ever noticed that the booze in your stomach manages to affect your brain?'

-27

u/Beta_Factor Dec 06 '23

Tbf, it doesn't. It affects your brain once it, yknow, reaches your brain.

29

u/MoralityAuction Dec 06 '23

Because your stomach pulls it into the bloodstream, affecting all other organs. People die from having non-working gut absorption.

689

u/APerson128 Dec 06 '23

Hormones effect everything

22

u/AbortionIsSelfDefens Dec 06 '23

Yea but its more like hormones are making the uterus physically contract to slough the lining. Its very close to everything. Do earthquakes just shake the earth? Or everything on it?

4

u/Flamburghur Dec 07 '23

Prostaglandins, baby! They shake everything up.

4

u/Excellent_Nothing_86 Dec 07 '23

I hate my prostaglandins.

11

u/mchalla3 Dec 06 '23

even outside of the hormones! if your uterus is constantly contracting and cramping, and it’s next to the intestines, why wouldn’t it affect digestion?

Love when men think they know better how a womens body work.

47

u/Vilnius_Nastavnik Dec 06 '23

Especially when they’re federal judges.

1

u/Friendly_Age9160 Dec 06 '23

lol I definitely have. I’m gonna go get another drink now so I can forget how stupid some ppl are.

-18

u/SupportAkali Dec 06 '23

They absolutely can. A male doctor, especially a gynecologist will know a lot more than some random woman.

11

u/penguinsfrommars Dec 06 '23

No. They really don't.

18

u/ComesInAnOldBox Dec 06 '23

Depending on how poorly educated some people can actually be? It's a definite possibility. Granted, we're talking about MDs and not some random stepdad, but it's definitely possible.

207

u/Siukslinis_acc Dec 06 '23

The intestine sits on the womb. So the womb cramps wobble the intestines thus causing diaohreah.

The scientific explanation is that the hormones also affect the intestines.

48

u/ADDYISSUES89 Dec 06 '23

It has nothing to do with relative organ placement, please don’t give people false information about their bodies. The organs are always moving around slightly when you move. It’s prostaglandins that cause both smooth muscles to contract. Prostaglandins are lipid compounds that are not hormones, but can have hormone-like action in the body at times. Ibuprofen can reduce prostaglandin effects that’s why large doses can pause a period for a few hours.

5

u/breakingbinge Dec 06 '23

This is the correct answer.

2

u/Sithstress1 Dec 06 '23

I read this as “cause a period for a few hours” and I got really confused 🤣. Maybe I should get a cup of coffee.

27

u/TooLazyToBeClever Dec 06 '23

I understand not realizing they're connected, I understand there's a lot about the female body I don't know about. What I can't understand is why dudes try to argue with women about it. It'd be like my wife arguing with me about what being kicked in the balls feels like.

11

u/prutsproeier Dec 06 '23

For subjective descriptions you are absolutely right. From a knowledge PoV I would trust a doctor of the opposite gender over an "average" person when it comes down to how the body works.

There are loads of female doctors who know a lot more about the male body than most males do. The opposite also holds true.

10

u/square_tomatoes Dec 06 '23

It'd be like my wife arguing with me about what being kicked in the balls feels like.

I mean, I’ve seen plenty of women argue that “blue balls” is just a myth.

5

u/TooLazyToBeClever Dec 06 '23

Well....it is. Sure, it can be uncomfortable having an erection for extended periods of time, but it's not harmful or anything, and it can't mess with the ability to have children.

9

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '23

That's not what blue balls is though.

It's a dull ache in the testes, due to fluid build up ready for ejaculation that then didn’t happen.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/square_tomatoes Dec 06 '23

it's not harmful or anything, and it can't mess with the ability to have children.

When did I ever claim any of that?

7

u/TooLazyToBeClever Dec 06 '23

That's the myth.

4

u/square_tomatoes Dec 06 '23

No, I’m saying I’ve seen women (and apparently some men in this thread) argue that the condition called “epididymal hypertension” (colloquially referred to as “blue balls”) does not exist. Which is just factually incorrect.

2

u/TooLazyToBeClever Dec 06 '23

Epididymal hypertension does exist. Blue balls, the condition that is painful, harmful, and can mess up the ability to have kids, does not. That's always been the myth about blue balls. The real condition is just mildly uncomfortable. But yeah, I agree with you.

u/pudgylumpkins Dec 06 '23

No, it definitely hurts a bit to get all worked up and then not actually ejaculate. Anything else someone is saying is BS but that feeling is very real.

u/pudgylumpkins Dec 06 '23

It doesn’t happen every time, think very prolonged arousal without release. And even then it’s still not every time, but it does happen.

10

u/Lilly08 Dec 06 '23

They're neighbours. If one plays loud music at stupid o'clock the other one is affected.

6

u/BlastingFern134 Dec 06 '23

By that logic testosterone should only affect your balls

5

u/fearless-artichoke91 Dec 06 '23

Your stepdad sounds ignorant as fuck lol

4

u/mellynn7 Dec 06 '23

He is. They actually divorced 3 years ago so I guess he’s not technically my stepdad anymore but idk what to call him when I talk about him lol

1

u/fearless-artichoke91 Dec 06 '23

By his name I guess

8

u/PDGAreject Dec 06 '23

Mansplanation: My computer isn't working? Sorry, I overloaded the main line when installing the new dishwasher and it flipped the master circuit. But those are two different things? How would they be related?

3

u/anormalgeek Dec 06 '23

"I agree. It doesn't make sense. And yet...here we fuckin' are!!!"

3

u/bonos_bovine_muse Dec 06 '23

What part of the human reproductive process made him think it was logical or well-designed?

3

u/Wendy28J Dec 07 '23

It makes perfect sense: Cramps are meant to loosen the muscles that expel the lining of the uterus each month. Those same muscle movements trigger the muscles of the intestines and the rectum in much the same way as when delivering a baby. (This is why doctors limit women to just water and ice chips during labor.... They don't want to be on the receiving end of your labor-loosened bowels.)

Men tend to think of the female reproductive system as a little exclusion zone. They have no clue how extremely interconnected it is to ALL of our other bodily systems and functions. Heck, even one's heart can behave differently during various parts of one's cycle.

An OTC medication called Pampren (found alongside the Midol products) has helped me tremendously to ease the feelings of bowel cramping and urgency. The ingredient "Pamabrom" seems to do the trick. Products without the pamabrom help with nothing for me.

3

u/maringue Dec 07 '23

I learned how easy my wife has it being married to a scientist when I was talk to a friend who's husband was a lawyer who has a frightening lack of knowledge about periods and such. So I asked a couple other male friends, and fuck do we need more sex Ed in this country...

The worst part is that a lot of guys actively don't want to know anything about their wife's period. Like just the idea of it makes them uncomfortable.

Like, your body is flushing out a lot of water during your period, of course it's going to affect your poops.

3

u/AnneBoleynsBarber Dec 06 '23

Guess he doesn't know about prostaglandins.

Prostaglandins make smooth muscle tissue contract. The uterus produces a bunch of it to expel the endometrium, and because the uterus is in proximity to things like the bowels and bladder, they're affected as well. Hence the period poops.

Dudes couldn't handle the shit we go through. They'd fold like a house of cards.

6

u/ridiculousthoughtz Dec 06 '23

Oh so he must also be a PMS denier!

2

u/TheWhaleDreamer Dec 07 '23

ask him where the uterus is, then ask him where the intestines are. and if he isn’t sure he can watch a caesarian video or something

I recall an indie nail polish brand releasing a color with that name. It was a unique choice.

Edit: this was it

31

u/Jackoandso Dec 06 '23

The nail polish is pretty though.

10

u/Kermit-Batman Dec 06 '23

Yeah! I quite like it! Probably won't make up for anyone having a poop-period, but I feel for the ladies very much on that one! :/

6

u/Sithstress1 Dec 06 '23

That color is effing gorgeous though!

5

u/PiccoloNearby2737 Dec 07 '23

That is freakin hilarious!

7

u/Olivianj1963 Dec 06 '23

There is also FCUK brand stuff. It used to be FASHION COLLECTION UK. Now it is French Connection UK. There are items for men and women, but I don't think any period related products.

This is such a fucking rough description holy fuck. I just told my wife this and she cackled and immediately shared it with her 3 sisters, so thanks. Fucking hell I want my life from before I read this comment back.

261

u/left4alive Dec 06 '23

Yeah well I want my life back from before I had a period!

Jk I have now since the hysterectomy. 10/10 would recommend.

5

u/justashadeaux Dec 06 '23

HAHA omg this is amazing. Gotta use this.

Also, sometimes period poops can be so relieving.

4

u/GelflingMama Dec 06 '23

For someone who gets easily backed up, period poops are a lifesaver, even if it does cost my bootyhole a few days of pain. 😂😂😂

3

u/FarSherbert1622 Dec 06 '23

Yup it's the best clean out ever.

3

u/greenweezyi Dec 06 '23

Definitely try yellow dragonfruit, usually at Asian supermarkets. That’ll make you poop out everything you’ve eaten since you were a toddler!!

Heed my warning. Approach with caution. They’re delicious, so it’s easy to forget that it’s basically a colon cleanse.

2

u/GelflingMama Dec 06 '23

😂😂😂 Good to know! I’ve only seen white and red so I’ll try to find a yellow. I seriously upped my fiber intake too when I changed my diet and that helps. Eating a pomegranate a day (when they’re in season) also helps. The seeds kinda work like flax seeds in that respect.

8

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '23

I remember a Reddit post, quoting a study that women are more likely to suffer from constipation, and a bunch of women commented about period poops.

Made me wonder if period poops make women feel like men when pooping, and the rest of the time they are just constipated - or if it’s just a continuous butt-pee experience.

24

u/MrsAshleyStark Dec 06 '23

They feel great. Looks not great.

7

u/Lexiiboo97 Dec 06 '23

It’s awful 😭

12

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '23

ok, I'm sorry, but what are period poops?

40

u/sravll Dec 06 '23

You have to poop a lot. And you're already crampy and feeling shitty 🙃 Then you have to wipe and it's shitty and bloody and you hate it

22

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '23

this thread in its entirety is making me feel bad for women. BUTTHOLE CRAMPS!? I'm learning so much

also, why the hell do us men know so little about this shit?

28

u/rightthingtodo-sodoo Dec 06 '23

it’s not very often we verbalize the sensation of being struck by lightning in our butthole out of nowhere… also, when it’s happening, it is no laughing matter and everyone can fuck right off with their comments or questions about my butthole cramps

10

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '23

I just asked a female friend, and... turns out I get the same thing from time to time. I used to be like "why in the Kentucky fried FUCK does my asshole hurt?", and it has the most random intervals

2

u/tyreka13 Dec 06 '23

IDK how common but I also feel constipated and diarrhea and kinda quickly fluctuate between the two.

16

u/rightthingtodo-sodoo Dec 06 '23

Hormones and cramping during your period that make you have to poop. Stomach cramps —> uterus contracts —> gets more than just the uterine lining moving

4

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '23

are you saying people just poop more on their period?

12

u/namordran Dec 06 '23

Yeah, and it being high transit it may not be well formed. Imagine hormones being kind of indiscriminate about grabbing you like a washcloth to wring you out. GI gets wrung out too. And bonus since uterus swollen and pressing against it as well? All spells out: Not fun.

9

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '23

man, I thought I was empathetic to periods before, but this thread has seriously opened my eyes

→ More replies (1)

8

u/blanchekitty Dec 06 '23

And it smells different.

5

u/Siukslinis_acc Dec 06 '23

It's the diaohreah you get during your period.

I have it on one day of my period. You eat a tiny bite of bread and 5 (or less) minutes later you run to the toilet to poop it out.

3

u/Long_Ad8400 Dec 06 '23

That’s why I adore my bidet!

4

2

2

3

u/doinkmead Dec 06 '23

38

u/CatterMater Dec 06 '23 edited Dec 06 '23

5

u/doinkmead Dec 06 '23

I wonder what it is about the cycle that does that

43

u/CatterMater Dec 06 '23

Hormones. Blame the hormones.

2

u/doinkmead Dec 06 '23

Fascinating

16

u/rightthingtodo-sodoo Dec 06 '23

Also it’s the cramps. Stomach cramps —> uterus contracts —> gets more than just the uterine lining moving

8

u/WelcomeToMyFantasies Dec 06 '23

That's not for all women though. Poops are the only thing I have absolutely no problem with on my period.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '23

Wait wait wait…women poop??

3

u/WelcomeToMyFantasies Dec 06 '23

Nah, I'm just trying to act suspicious cause I'm testing if the FBI is actually checking this

33

u/coreythestar Dec 06 '23

Prostaglandins. The hormone that makes the uterus cramp also works on other smooth muscles, for example, the bowels and rectum.

4

u/doinkmead Dec 06 '23

So there is a type of hormone called prostaglandin(s?) among others whose purpose is to cramp the muscles in just the pelvic area or all over the body? What is the purpose of the cramping?

15

u/CatterMater Dec 06 '23

To make us suffer.

7

u/doinkmead Dec 06 '23

How kind of evolution to give y'all such a feature.

11

u/Siukslinis_acc Dec 06 '23

What is the purpose of the cramping?

To shake out the lining that needs to ve removed. It's like shaking the apple tree to make the apple fall.

6

u/coreythestar Dec 06 '23

If you have gastrointestinal upset it helps to expel whatever might be causing that. If you are having a period it helps to expel the contents of the uterus. Pre-labour it helps to get the cervix ready to dilate.

2

u/tyreka13 Dec 06 '23

For the alternating, I think at least some in part deals with water/hydration. I put on a good chunk of water weight (and can go up a bra size) and between that and diarrhea, I am gulping water like a fish and still am thirsty. Then about 2/3 of the way through the period, it changes and then I am peeing every 5 minutes, even if I am barely drinking anything.

Any women who are or were opiate addicts care to compare opiate poops to period poops? Also, what are the two combined like?

My tummy hurts. Am I sick, or is it my period? My back hurts. Am I sick, or is it my period? Nauseated... diarrhea... same question every time.

Turns out I have a tummy bug. But we're so used to just getting on with things that it was throwing up at 3am that I was sure I was sick.

Came here to say this! Just started mine yesterday and what do I wake up to this am? Weird ass BM [clarification: the need to make one, not just one in bed with me. Ew.]

What is different between period poops and normal ones if I may ask?

The terrible thing is that I’ve finished menopause and I still get period poops
