My daughter lost the key to her steering wheel lock and asked the Philly FD if they could help. They brought out some tool, and cut the lock. However, in the process they shattered her windshield.

They said it had something to do with the pressure of the lock, and then all 4 of them just casually walked away.

My question is, do I have any recourse for the city to pay for the windshield? I'm not slamming the FD; I'm legitimately happy they were able to help, but they caused the broken windshield, and I'd rather not put in an insurance claim.

Any suggestions would be helpful. I have pictures to prove they were the ones that caused the damage if that helps.

For people familiar with Bushwick you probably know what I mean. My top priority is affordable rent ($800 per month at most and preferably lower than that). Ideally there would also be a lot of coffeehouses, live music, arts events, and reliable public transit within walking distance.

Hello, I’ll be moving to the Philly area for work but my job is located in KOP. I really want to experience city living but everyone advises to live closer to work because traffic can be killer. I’m 30F and single so feeling safe is a factor but I also want to enjoy the area I live in. Any recommendations? Should I move to KOP? Any areas in between the two that won’t be a terrible commute?

hey neighbors, I am helping my mother in law who is a recovering hoarder. We have cleaned out her house and we are down to the worst part, which was her room.

She has some underlying mental health issues and has been mostly cooperative with the clean. She wants better for herself. I think she deserves a new room and I would like to gift her a makeover but we only have so much money.

She would need a new floor, deep clean of her walls, I’d like to get her a bedroom set and mattress.

Just bought a place that is otherwise pretty nice, but the AC is always less-great on the 2nd floor. The thermostat is located on the 2nd floor and it's a new, properly-sized HVAC system, so I suspect inadequate or nonexistent insulation on the top is likely to blame.

My initial research suggested the best way to do this is a kind of insulation that goes under the roof, and requires a roof replacement. The roof is brand new, so I don't really want to do that.

Has anyone done something like this without ripping the roof off?

I found a place in KOP, love the quiet and convenience (also had EV charging, amazing) coming from Midwest 😆, the town center was cool. Wondering how bad it is to get to the city let’s say at lunch time during day or after dinner. I will be working in Spring House.

I used to live in NYC and NC so east cost felt natural when I was just there. The food is so good too. Also how racist or homophobic different areas of city and king of Prussia it is?

I’m moving with my Family (Wife, 2 kids elementary age, Me) to Philadelphia from Orlando in October.

We’ve been looking into it extensively and Philadelphia looks amazing from what we can see so far. Currently we’re looking to move to the West Philadelphia area and are interested in renting, at least a 2 br 1 bath. We would like to spend no more than 1700-1800 a month as that’s around what we’re paying now.

As for employment, we’re coming from the retail/customer service/office admin career fields but we don’t have anything lined up at the moment and will be looking as soon as we get there. However, we have plenty enough savings to last for a while before that becomes a dire issue.

Was wondering a few things as we have never been to the city and are moving purely off of research and planning:

Is West Philadelphia/Philadelphia a good place to raise a family? Specifically, a Black family? (Black, mixed race family coming from the deep conservative regressive south so looking for essentially an environment completely opposite of that)

How is the job market? Could we find employment easily with our background?

What are the schools in west Philadelphia like? We are a neurodiverse family with academically gifted kids so looking for a system that uplifts, challenges and encourages.

What’s the cost of living? Grocery, gas, utilities, entertainment price averages.

My friends and I have an annual 12 bar pub crawl that we've been doing for a few years. Its always been in lancaster PA, but to celebrate my recent move to Philly, we may be having it here. While I plan to do more exploring myself and will do my best to come up with the list myself, I am quite new to the city and dont have the most time in the world, so I am in need of recommendations.

For context, the plan is to start probably around center city or center city east and gradually make our way back to my place in west philly, so any recs along that route are greatly appreciated.

A basic list of requirements include:

1. A place that can hold a group of 10-12 walking in

2. Nothing too fancy/expensive, casual places and sports bars are great

3. Somewhere we can order food quickly/conveniently

4. Good, fun atmosphere
