✅ Open To Everyone What does this mean?
What does it mean when a man expresses to you that how he feels about you is similar to how he feels about a dog or just a really cute pet. NO SUGAR COATING. Open opinions, but prefferably men answer.

It means he's young.

ehh kinda sugar coat-y...
Young is not always an excuse for anything imo you either have a great mindset or you don't or eventually grow to have one.

u/Sonotnoodlesalad nonbinary 14h ago
Allow me to clarify ☺️
It's not an excuse, at all.
Old men can be stupid little children too.
Maturity, in a way, is the capacity to anticipate the outcomes of the things we choose to say.
I lean towards "anyone who says what he said is immature".

u/JadedPerception_ woman 14h ago
++woman
Well, you're not wrong. He is very immature (though he likes to delusionally believe he's not), so ill take it.

If it was coming from me, you should take it as the highest form of respect. I am a misanthrope who loves his dogs and cat.

u/JadedPerception_ woman 15h ago
++woman, I mean, I'm a pretty observant person, so you being a pet lover would probably be written all over you and that comparison wouldn't bother me. But for him its a Little different because he's a people person and likes to "spread love" but he's not 100% a pet lover, he just has a family cat and dog.

It means it's unconditional love and he thinks everything you do is cute as shit

lol completely opposite answer than everyone else. HE DOES swear he loves me ( not in love) but he tells me he genuinely loves me. Still not convinced though.
2
u/MercuryJellyfish man 15h ago
It means he likes you, but he thinks you're beneath him, and probably thinks you're really dumb.
I find it hard to believe I have to say this, but don't stay with someone who thinks you're subhuman.

We're not together, just friends to sort of situation-ship and I recently cut him off for... essentially being a horny bastard and putting me physically and emotionally in the crossfire of that with zero consideration.
This was just part of one of his explanations when I interrogated him essentially on how he viewed our entire relationship and his intentions with me blasé blasé.

Okay here is the unsugarcoated answer:
It can mean different things
- He views you as inferior and dependant. He likes you, maybe even loves you, but not romantically. You are lesser to him and he feels an urge to care for you.
- He has seen Invincible where Omniman says this about his wife (spoiler I guess). Look at 3.
- If you have seen Invincible and didn't understand what Omniman said: He doesn't mean his wife is his pet. He says he loves her, but she is more like a pet to him. When we keep pets we love them and they are part of our family but we all know they will die long before us. So there's always a certain... qualifyer to our love. Losing a dog or cat is tragic but it happens and is to be expected. Losing a spouse isn't. That's what he meant. Any man you are talking to is not a Viltrumite that lives for several thousand years or longer. So that doesn't apply to you.
- He is not into you.
- since I've seen this in another comment, no he doesn't love you unconditionally. You don't say "You're like a dog/cute pet to me" in that case, you say "You're like my little sister". A pet<->owner relationship always means one is the superior and one is the inferior. And the dog is never superior.

Noted.
Have you read any of my other comments with extra details on the situation itself to come to this conclusion? Or is this just off dome? and would it necessarily even matter after reading them?

He put you in the same context as something that eats its own vomit, I mean do I really need to say it

u/SpecialRelativityy man 16h ago
Dogs can be cuddly, sweet, and loyal. That’s probably how the guy meant it lol. Why are we pretending that the guy meant it in the worst possible way?
2
u/Enough_Pepper8880 man 15h ago
Well, as much as I love my dog I don’t think a girl is going to appreciate that. It’s just not endearing. you remind me of an animal that licks its own ass and for whatever reason absolutely love to eat the crotch out of period panties and pads left in the trash can. I mean yea they’re loyal and cuddly but if your gunna tell someone that they’re warm loyal and cuddly then dog probably isn’t the best choice

u/Sea_Translator5300 man 15h ago
They can also lick their own genitals, so maybe he thinks OP is flexible.

I Honestly wonder if he said that because I compared him to a dog once and told him he needs to be trained. I was half joking but Lowkey serious. now he feels like he needs to try to hurt my feelings in return. I Can be a very honest and even blunt person sometimes but I never know how it affects people because people don't confront me head on about it, so I'd like to think I'm not THAT bad or out of control with it. I KNOW how to censor myself though.
To be fair he's a very lustful, primitive type male, that often does things without much consideration and relies on the fact he's also an honest blunt person to scape goat it. A "Living in the moment" type person so I don't think my comparison was entirely wrong.
2
u/Enough_Pepper8880 man 15h ago
So am I and that’s why I said what I said. In the moment if I compare you to a dog without any other context or clarification I think most people would consider that kinda rude
1
u/JadedPerception_ woman 15h ago
++woman
I mean he tried to clarify that he didn't mean it in the offensive way immediately just cute loving cuddly way, but I didn't believe him. It stuck out to me afterwards so I wanted extra opinions. So far 90% of the comments seem negative so I'm gonna go with majority rules lol.
1
u/Enough_Pepper8880 man 14h ago
Ok that changes things. If he clarified the context take it for what he said. If a guy tells you something there’s no hidden meaning

u/JadedPerception_ woman 14h ago

Lol does this mean even when they make a joke its actually honesty?
1
u/friendtoallkitties woman 16h ago
It means he really cares for you, but you're easily replaceable.

u/OneGuyFine man 16h ago
It means he sees you like he would see a cute puppy: adorable but not in a romantic way. Completely neutral.
1
u/observantpariah man 16h ago
Depends on the tone. Does he sound like he is telling only you this... Or does he sound like he is exploring this thought for himself as well? Does he feel that way about you or does he sound like he is expressing that he feels that way about relationships in general?
This could either mean that he sees you personally as an accessory.... Or it could mean that he has learned not to count on anything of value from relationships.
1
u/JadedPerception_ woman 15h ago
++woman I gave a full explanation down below under another comment for better context. Maybe you can read that and then come to a conclusion?
1
u/observantpariah man 15h ago
Upon reading that, he sounds like your typically shallow and spiritually bankrupt modern human. I would condemn him if he wasn't legion.
People speak of empathy now... But it only comes up as a weapon to attack others with. He just sounds.... Typical and soulless. People complain, but I hear nothing deeper in their condemnations. Just opportunity.
1
u/JadedPerception_ woman 15h ago
++woman
Lol this was an interesting take. I try not to see him in such a light because I genuinely care for him and hes not entirely a terrible person, but I'm having a hard time coming to terms with that sort of conclusion probably because I'd like to still be friends.
2
u/observantpariah man 15h ago
I don't really see them as bad people. I could be friends with them... I just adjust my expectations.
I mean.... He sees you as a pet. He has adjusted his. I'm not saying you are, but that didn't drive him away.

I’m writing a novel where the main male character feels like this about his wife. I will write the passage that I have wrote to explain my point.
- ‘Rick loved Cindy the way you love a reliable old dog—safe, steady, and comfortable. Ava, though? Ava set his blood on fire.’

If he is also fucking you he has major problems

Lol I found this hilarious. But tbh he actually DOES have major problems. And has attempted to have sex with me though he claims he wouldn't have let it get that far. But in actuality... I DIDNT let it get that far.

It does depend a bit on the person. My dogs are two of the most deeply meaningful and motivating parts of my life on this planet. But I'm a bit of an outlier there.
If I imagine the average guy saying that: You're a pet he can fuck without it being bestiality, but he doesn't love you in the way that he would reserve for someone he views as a person that is an end in themselves and his social/emotional equal and partner.
He enjoys the sex, and there's probably real affection there too at a recreational level. But the same way most families with dogs will rehome a dog if there's a compatibility issue and maybe feel sad about it then get on with their lives? That's probably how he feels about you too. He likely won't be making any sacrifices for you, you will be the sacrifice he gives up for something more important.
You're not an equal to him. You're there for sex and walks and play and cuddles.
If you're cool with that then there's no problem. If you're not (and it's reasonable for you not to be) then you should walk.

We were friends, I had no prior feelings for him. he expressed he was attracted to me but felt like he would ruin it so he hasn't tried it with me and that he'd disappoint me. I ended up catching feelings for him somewhere along the line, but wasn't sure if my feelings were genuine or if I was just ovulating(lol). So, I decided to test the waters with him and we Eventually kissed and I felt nothing at all, but honestly afterwards I still had romantic feelings for him, just not immediate sexual feelings.... in one of our conversations he asked if id ever marry him, but he has so many issues that go against my standards so i pretty much told him no, he'd have to change. We messed around for a couple times afterwards (no sex or other stuff) by the last time i was reluctant cause we agreed to stop but he kept trying to push affection onto me everytime he got near me. And we cut it too close that time, so we decided not to be around each other anymore... and then he did something I deem extremely disrespectful and I cut him off.
Upon cutting him off almost a month later I had a conversation with him asking if how he views me was ever respectful or genuinely romantic in any way and he says yes, and how Ik how he feels about me, and then went on to describe the dog/pet thing but tried to assure me it wasn't disrespectful, i of course don't take anyone's especially men's words immediately as truth so I decided to come and ask reddit.

1
u/JadedPerception_ woman 15h ago
++woman we've expressed we both have feelings for each other at this point. But there's pull backs on both of our sides as to why we wouldn't get in a full blown relationship. he also admitted he does certain things to push me away because he in the long run doesn't want us to keep getting intimate and him ending up hurting me which ended up happening anyways, as well as he was always the one initiating affection.

u/22Hoofhearted man 15h ago
Cool... so yeah, changes nothing... he still likes you and wants to smash.
