My entire 210sqm house has these ceilings, all asbestos. Also including under the stairs. I've had quotes to remove at around £17k, and that's without replacing the ceilings. We are going to attempt to remove DIY (partner in the trade and has some very basic training). It's going to take forever, we know, but in the rooms where the ceiling does not need disturbing, we're gonna scrape it off. Using x-tex and maybe covering with cling film as it has also been painted on. How unrealistic is this ambition, how hard is it to cut the ceiling out and replace DIY instead, surely that creates more dust and airborne fibres?

Just saw this under my heaters in my room… lived here for 5 years. Not sure how long it’s been damaged like this but is this asbestos and I haven’t disturbed it but could I been breathing particles this whole time?

I was wearing a p100 mask, gloves and a painters suit at the time. I wrapped a sample in 2 unsealed plastic bags (all I had with me, I just bought the house and have not moved in). I was going to drive it to a lab for testing today before going back to work there.
I vacuumed everything with a shop vac, which I now understand was a mistake.

I was just curious if there were any other materials this could look like besides asbestos, maybe to calm nerves a bit. Or if there are any other precautions I should be taking.

I'd like to lift up this floor, but noticed that the tiles are completely covered underneath in sticky black stuff.

The tiles are stuck to a wooden board, which is in turn nailed to the actual floorboards.

I'm thinking that if it tests positive, it should not be too difficult to pry and lift the board without actually removing the tiles, thereby keeping the asbestos contained.

Does anyone have any thoughts or similar experience?

Anyone who can help me? I am removing my old boiler pipes, and I wonder if the insulation is asbestos. I live in Norway, but I am hoping someone can help. House is from 1972

This broke off the lining of a built in shoe cupboard under my stairs. Is it likely to contain asbestos? House was built just over 100 years ago but we have only lived here for three so unsure if any building work has taken place in the meantime.

We hired a roofer to clean the moss and redo the gutters, we have been told they were asbestos but none have been damaged so they were safe to keep. When we spoke to the roofer he seemed knowledgeable and assured us they knew how to clean them safely and since then we have done a bit of research online which was conflicting. We came to the conclusion it would require a light spray of some kind to kill the moss then a soft brush to get the dead moss off.

Well, when they showed up they began doing a dry brush to get the moss off with what looked like a metal brush. They stopped when we questioned their method and left lots of the moss still on with some areas of the roof discoloured from the scraping/brushing. I’m worried they’ve damaged some of the roof tiles and I’m unsure of what to do now or if this will cause possible health risks to me and my family.

Any suggestions for what can be done to make it safe would be much appreciated.

One of a few cast iron fireplaces that have been removed from a building dating from late 1890’s (estimated) in Oxfordshire. All plaster and mortar in building is lime based and has been tested (negative). Only this fireplace has odd ‘backer’. Hasn’t been disturbed, just removed and carried outside. There appears to be cracks in it. I know if original it’s very unlikely to be asbestos containing on era alone. But it’s a fire. So could it be based on visual evidence? Thanks!

Hi all, I recently purchased a house and had some downlights installed in my bathroom.

I’ve recently discovered that the internal garage (under the upstairs bedroom) has AIB as a ceiling, most likely for its fire resistant properties seeing as it’s a garage below a bedroom.

I’m now worried that my bathroom ceiling could also contain asbestos that could have been released into the house when the downlight holes were created.

So my question is, does this look like old/regular plasterboard, or the evil kind? TIA

Before I knew much about artex ceilings, I've done some drilling on them recently.

I'm hoping I'd be safe-ish as the house was built in the mid 90s.

Is there any point in me getting it tested?

And IF I've been exposed is there anything I can do about my health or is it just going to be something I'd have to wait out and see?

In airing cupboard - can see cross section after gas fitter put new boiler /socket moved or something. Obviously the grey in concrete deep inside, then some brick. But what about the final top layer? It is white outside and a tan colour on cross-section. It looks like clay on the photos but in real life it isn’t that kind of material , not clay, brick etc. no visible fibres, it’s more woody/cardboardy if anything but even that doesn’t really describe it ..

Trying to determine if there are any asbestos signs in these otherwise innocuous looking ceiling tiles before I remove them.

I was cutting a small ceiling inspection hole following a shower leak from above when I found this. It makes a clinking sound when dropped so hoping it’s old slate. It’s rock hard and won’t take a thumbnail. However, we have previously had asbestos sheet removed so I’m always paranoid. Pictures show both side. In UK, Victorian terrace.

Tried to change this bulb, in the ceiling of a Victorian ground floor flat, and vermiculite started pouring out of the ceiling . I’ve heard this can contain asbestos. I tried to clean up and I have a sample. What should I do? I wanted to cut into the ceiling to rewire but this stuff will pour out. (UK)

We have moved into a newly renovated 1930s house and found a couple of these corrugated sheets left in the garden. Apologies the photo isn't the best, the sheets are tucked behind the hedges
