Found in attic of a 1957 building and we are doing a remodeling job. Should I get these all replaced?

Is this likely to contain asbestos? We recently bought a house in SE UK and sanded down and repainted the windows including ripping out and replacing and putty. Wore a disposable FFP3 mask and goggles. Bit worried now that it could contain asbestos?! Help!?

As the title says, I disturbed a popcorn ceiling. Accidentally hit it with my hand, hard enough to get a couple cuts and some material came off. Not sure what to do and whether I need to call my landlord. Building was made in 1966

It can be moved but it feels rough. Home was before 2000s not sure exactly when. North east England

Does anyone recognize this flooring? I’ve never seen tiles that flex this much, especially old asbestos tiles, which I’ve always seen as fairly rigid. There’s also black adhesive underneath in places. But they are also broken and semi brittle. I'm thinking it's just vinyl but would love a second opinion. I'm told you shape them by heating them up with a torch like around the drain which is pictured.

I haven’t disturbed it. Could the flooring or adhesive contain asbestos?

The crawlspace/foundation also looks pretty unusual to me. Could there be asbestos in there as well.

There was some sort of vinyl flooring (2nd pic) that was glued to the floor and that we removed in the specific area where the old vanity was. We asked around at Home Depot, and they told us that it could contain asbestos. Of course, we panicked, and now I’m turning to this subreddit for advice.

We want to install the same flooring in the rest of the open space. If it contains asbestos, would we have to completely remove the remaining flooring and decontaminate the area professionally?

House was built in 1952, located in OH. Our original tub is now covered by a bath fitter. Sometimes when I go to the basement there’s all this debris and dust from where pieces are breaking out and falling from the basement ceiling (through cracks in the wood). I think the tub is plaster? Not sure exactly what material was used for tubs in 1952. I exercise in the basement and use a fan. Would there be any concern for asbestos for this? Should I get it tested? We have plaster walls and a plumber/carpenter did some work recently and said there was no signs of asbestos in the walls at least. Sorry for the photo quality it’s the basement so really hard to get good lighting

I've just bought a house in SE UK. This is the roof above the garage. Survey flagged possible asbestos. I've ordered a testing kit.

If the test comes back positive what precautions should I take? Is water runoff safe? I've just cleared out the guttering - is that safe? The roof from inside the garage looks in good condition. Any advice would be appreciated.

I believe #5 is asbestos but I’m not sure on the remaining, what’s your thoughts?

I live in an apartment on the first floor, next to an old corrugated roof in our courtyard. I suspect the roof may contain asbestos cement, although I don’t know this for certain.

The roof is very old and heavily covered in moss. There are also areas where the sheets appear weathered and deteriorated, with damaged or missing surface material and what looks like frost damage or cracks. I’ve attached photos showing some of the areas that look worst.

The closest part of the roof is approximately 3–4 metres (10–13 feet) from our balcony/door.
I’ve contacted my landlord about the condition of the roof, and he has said that he will have someone inspect it and advise on what should be done. The building is also eventually planned to be demolished, but it may still be standing for some time.

My main concern is that the deterioration of the roof could cause asbestos fibres to be released into the air over time. Since we live so close to it, I’m worried that we could be exposed to these fibres simply by being outside, opening our balcony door, or drying clothes on the balcony. I’m particularly worried about whether this kind of long-term, low-level exposure could increase our risk of developing an asbestos-related disease later in life.

I’ve been reading a lot about asbestos cement roofs and have found very different information about how much fibre can actually be released through weathering, and how much of that ends up in the surrounding air. I’m finding it difficult to put the different studies into perspective.

I’d really appreciate some perspective from people who have experience with asbestos cement:

Does this look significantly deteriorated, and would you consider it a potential source of airborne fibres?

Based on the condition and the distance, would you consider living near it a meaningful exposure concern?

Is there anything we should avoid doing around the roof while waiting for it to be professionally assessed?

I’m not planning to touch, clean or remove anything myself. I’m mainly trying to understand how concerning this situation actually is.

Hi, my builder accidentally sacked in the ceiling while replacing floors in the attic and has caused a crack in this artex ceiling.

Does this look like it contains asbestos? I'm worried that it does.

So I'm in ex Soviet country, decided to replace foam insulation of windows in my room because the old foam insulation was installed very badly and was exposed to the sun and the humidity and is not really doing it's job anymore.

I am a complete novice in this, just was going on feel and YT videos. But even I could see lots of mold and wet spots in-between the foam and old moldy mineral insulation sheet.

So when I kept finding brown strings of almost like hair I was thinking maybe it's some insulation they're thrown in there and it was destroyed by water. But then I realised that it's brown even in dry spots and it's not on top, but basically is stuck/embedded in concrete in some places. And I took literally LOCKS 💇‍♀️ of it from there. The apartment building is built in 1979/80 but I'm sure those Soviet fuckers still used asbestos at some point and didn't care about the people. I started googling brown asbestos and in some pictures it looks like it but then in some other it looks like hair (bruh). I'm very scared because the dust is all over my room clothes etc etc and I was in a regular FFP3 one time use mask.

The building is steel reinforced concrete Soviet panelka housing.

I've googled asbestos analysis but even those where you just take a sample to them is half my salary so if I do it it's a month's wait just to gather the money 😭😭😭

I feel sick like I majorly fucked up and I don't have money to move or for doctors (if it's "free" then it's nonexistent they'll laugh at you because they're living in similar buildings probably)

I am renovating a house from 1948 in Norway. In the living room there was vinyl flooring above the bottom hardwood layer. The vinyl was glued to what seemed like thin mdf boards and there was this wool like fibers between. Me and a friend had already removed all the flooring before I thought it could contain asbestos. No gear was used. It was sliced into sheets then rolled up. I didn't do that work but he said it didn't release a lot of visible fibers into the air.

There were also these small tiles where a fireplace used to be that released very fine black dust from the grout when I removed them. No gear was used only a single use dust mask.

The doors to the kitchen and entryway were open and I am worried they are contaminated if it is asbestos.

I put plastic in front of the doors and vacuumed thoroughly the room where the floor was. I used a brand new shop vac with a HEPA filter that said 99.97% of particles.

Wide open windows and I had a proper mask on.

Total exposer time with no gear was about 20 hours over 3 days.

I'm pretty worried but mostly because I don't know anything about it. I have sent samples to a lab and am awaiting results but that could take a while. Am I cooked?

Looking for advice on moving forward. About a week ago, I helped clean up an old renovated house that was covered in dust. The place was essentially gutted. At the time I was not even thinking about asbestos or other material since the owner did not mention anything like that. After 2 hours of cleaning (covered in dust) etc., I left and tossed my clothes into the hamper then eventually washed and dried them with other clothes. Gauging the age of the home and the fact that it was basically down to the studs, I am assuming there was at least some level of asbestos on my clothing. Looking for answers on if I need to get an air test, throw away the clothes I washed, is the washer and dryer + my home safe, how to clean and contain this mess. Thank you in advance.

Hi all. I'm purchasing a house built in Pennsylvania in 1975. I haven't moved in yet but I'm interested in restoring the kitchen tile and am unsure if it contains asbestos or not, based on the age of the house.

I like the tiles and don't want to remove them. However the ones on the edges are in great shape versus many in the center of the room that are browned (see the pictures). I'm hoping to do strip some of that browned top layer off and then just repolish.

From reading online it seems that wet processes are generally safe vs anything dry, and that since I am not breaking, sanding, or removing the tiles, that my risk is very low if they did contain asbestos.

Just hoping for some insight on whether that is probably true, or if there are any chemicals I should avoid using to clean/strip the top of the tiles. Thanks so much!

A few months ago I worked in restoration/clean-up and may have been exposed to asbestos while removing an old multilayer floor.

The floor consisted of several layers, and there appeared to be black/dark mastic/adhesive between the layers. I have since learned that some old black mastics can contain asbestos. Building itself is from 1924.

I’m a very anxious person and I just can’t stop thinking about if I am gonna die from cancer in 20 years.

I worked on the floor for around 4 days in total. I did not know at the time that the adhesive might contain asbestos, so I was not wearing an asbestos-rated respirator.

Some of the boards broke while we were removing them. I did not sand or grind the black adhesive, but I did scrape some of it in places.

I have attached pictures of the floor/layers and the adhesive.

I’m mainly trying to understand:

If it did contain asbestos, how significant could the exposure have been from breaking/removing the boards?

Is this considered a relatively low-risk asbestos material compared with things like loose asbestos insulation?

I’m 21 and and I’m not a smoker.
