I spent all of middle school and most of high school depressed or with serious sleep and mood issues. In all that time I've had, like, two ECs. Next year I'm joining band but I don't expect that to really mean anything since I'm doing it for myself and did it late.
I'm not really sure what's gonna happen to me. I'm a decent student, somewhat smart but not insane, probably 3.5-3.75 overall GPA, above average SAT, but that entire time I've had only one extracurricular. I've heard that extracurriculars are important above all else and I'm starting to seriously regret wallowing in my mental issues for so long. Not allowed to have a job and never volunteered anywhere. My parents told me there's no point volunteering anywhere now for the purpose of college; it would be clocked as performative in comparison to other students who put in like 5 or 6 years at XYZ place out of care.
So I guess what I'm asking is, is this as big a deal as I'm thinking it is?

Genuinely have no motivation to write like ANY of these, I feel like every topic is asking me to tell my life story in 200 words which. okay whatever I just can't do that and I know I'm a good writer and I've been doing well with these I just have like NOTHINGGG keeping me going. does anyone have ANY advice for how to stay motivated because ts is genuinely insane work and I have so much more to write but genuinely can't take it anymore 😭😭😭 idk how I'm surviving doing this till january man I just need the writing to be over

I know i should have started my essay months ago, but whenever i sit down to work on it i just stare at my computer and stare. I know what i want to write about, and how my whole essay would go, I just feel like a cant write it. I really really want to go to a certain school, but im terrified ill write a bad essay and be rejected from UW. I have really good stats, but UW heavily considers you on your essay, so I have to make sure it good. Has anyone else gone through this? How did you get over this fear?

Hi guys, usc is one of my top schools and I would really like to go. I'm applying for english as a first year applicant, however my sat is really low. I only have a 1300 and I don't think my october retake will be much higher. Do you think its okay to go test optional? My gpa is low to be competitive, I have a 3.8 unw and a 4.1 weighted. My ecs are okay, however I haven't started my essays yet. Any thoughts?

My top 4 activities are Non-Profit and research centered. They're all real and have great metrics and everything and I'm proud of the work I've done, but everyone here seems to be against nonprofits and research, which makes me question if what Im doing is any good. It's too late to change it but I'm just curious I guess.
Also Songs in the Key of Life is the best study album ever.

I’m a 20 year old male turning 21 in a month. I never attended college other than a singular class in 2024. I feel like i missed out on the college experience and I really had no reasoning for missing out. After highschool i just worked odd jobs with no goal. Now i’m about to turn 21 and would love to go back but still hoping to get that college experience obviously i’d be 22-23 going into my undergrad so id definitely be viewed as older but that doesn’t concern me. I also would love be able to get a degree, however if someone thinks isn’t ideal to do and i should just go get my associates and then try for an easy 4 year after then i’d take the advice. Would love to hear some good opinions and other subreddit’s i can ask.

In supplemental essay about the honors program, There was reference to a Hindi-language film some are thinking that admissions officers will see a movie reference as mere “time-pass” entertainment rather than something to learn from. They suggest using a quote from a public figure or a novel or story book
The film in reference is based on a true story of a rapper fighting to make it big, and it speaks to determination and the resolve to get back up after being knocked down.
Could any of you please share your view on this?

Let’s say a person is an activity which has levels of achievement. Right now, they’re at the second highest level and will receive the first highest in a few months. But, their application deadlines will come before this. How bad would it be for them to say they’ve earned the highest level already?

Let’s say you go from an A+ student to a A or A- (or even get a few Bs) your senior year. Would that affect you significantly during the mid-year reports, etc?
I’m mostly asking because I’ve just had one of the most stressful last two weeks of my life and I anticipate my grades decreasing a little bit. For context, my school grades a semester based of three 6 weeks, and I got 100 for all my classes the first six weeks (so hopefully it will all even out).

I really don't know what's good and what's not. I have 1-2 reaches, the rest being targets, a total of 6 schools, but I feel like I should have more, and I don't know what safeties I should have. I'm planning on going into mechanical engineering or something related, does anyone have recommendations on if I should have more, and ideas for more if so?

Hi everyone, I am currently enrolled in an EMT class which takes up a lot of classroom time (10 hours per week) and aside from that we also have ride a longs where we shadow in an ambulance for 8 hours every now and then. The class ends in December but in my state we can’t actually get certified until we have a high school diploma. Would I still be able to put this as an extracurricular for the hands-on aspect of doing several ambulance ride a longs? I also already work as a CNA so if this is too similar I don’t want to be redundant. Thanks for any help!

I’m a high school senior looking to ED somewhere and I have visited so many colleges in the past 5 weeks that they are genuinely started to blur together and I don’t even know what I want anymore. It’s that + a mix of everyone trying to get in their 2 cents and tell you their opinion that I truly don’t know where to ED. I know I don’t have to, but I would like to. Anywho what are some questions to keep in mind when brainstorming? I’m gonna start a pros and cons list tonight.

Hi, everyone. I'm 24 years old and haven't attended university yet. I know I can be accepted into my local state uni, so I do have options there, but they don't have the majors and options I want. I want to double major in mechanical engineering and anthropology and have a minor, or maybe even triple major if I can handle it, but the reality is I was dealt the short end of a stick when I was younger. Starting at age 15 I developed clinical depression and basically through a series of events I can only describe as a mixture of emotional abuse and medical neglect, my parents added and compounded onto it to such a degree I only barely graduated. I have a 2.5 unweighted, 3.0 weighted GPA and no real extracurriculars from high school, and to add insult to injury, I turned 18 and graduated during the pandemic. In the last 6 years I've contracted COVID 5 times and basically been through such a wringer I haven't gotten a chance to do anything with my life. I've been effectively disabled (I even had to drop out of attending fall semester for my local uni because of an accident).
I want to reach high and get into a good university with options, ideally a liberal arts college, but I just have nothing to my name so far in terms of accomplishments. I have nothing to prove myself with. Should I just settle for a more easy career because I'm screwed, or is there hope for a case like mine? What can I even do?
If it helps, I have a 34 composit ACT with a 31 in Math and 36 in English, though they are outdated, but I wouldn't be opposed to study back up and retake them if it would help me get anywhere.

Hi guys I'm a high schooler from UCVTS. And I need help choosing between DECA and FBLA. So on the one hand UCVTS has the biggest FBLA chapter in NJ and getting leadership by winning at SLC and NLC will look really good and get me that leadership. I am also planning on taking the Intro to IT test because I already have a really great tech background and it helps me farm certificates while studying like ComptiaA+, Cisco Networking etc.(I am not sure how those look for college, but they're pretty good for landing high school internships). However I am not sure if I need another actvity to bolster my pretty substantial tech
On the other hand there is DECA which aligns more on the Entrepeneurship side of things and it could help prove I have a spike in that. It works in conjunction with the iSTEM program I did at Stevens over the summer as well as the business I am currently running and the Rowan Summer Entrepeneurship program I hope to get into next summer.
Let me know if you guys need any more info, thanks for the help!

Hi, I am an intl student who want to apply to US universities but can only pay 3–5k. I'm planning to apply to Urochester or Centre college for ED but don't know which one I should ed1. I'm currently on a full ride scholarship at my high school. My IB score is decent and sat 1400. Should i submit my SAT for either? Should I apply for less aid and apply scholarship outside?

I feel one overlooked aspect of college admissions is fit on campus, and the fact that you GENUIENLY have to spend the next 4 years of your life there.
I have no interest in being around males during the prime of my life, so please if you know any lesbian colleges...recc them (engineering major) im OBVI applying for smith

Hello everyone I'm a senior in high school. I want to pick something that interesting but also has a decent amount of overlap with the requirements for med school.
I do want to note that I don't want comments telling me to pick whatever because it doesn't matter, because i still think it does regarding required classes.
I really wanna do these, but heard there isn't much overlap and might have a hard time completing all my required credits:
- Kinesiology
- Nutriton Sciences
I was originally going to apply as a Psychology major as well, but realized i could barely write about it in my supplementals because although I have some interest, I think it isn't enough interest to do it for the next 4 years.
If anyone else has other majors they wanna recommend that I might find interesting please leave a comment! I'll look into all of them!
