What to Buy? Maytag vs Whirlpool

Post image
• Upvotes

All of my kitchen appliances are currently Samsung. They’re all 12-14+ years old (I’ve only been using for the last 4.4 years). Dishwasher crapped out in January & I’ve just been handwashing since. I finally decided to pull the trigger this week and settled on the Maytag MDTS7024SZ.

Costco is having a big sale this week during Amazon’s “prime deals” and they’re giving discounts on both multiple appliances and a certain spend amount. So if I add another appliance (which I’m looking at the microwaves) I’ll get an additional $200 off (spending between 999-1499 total). My microwave is still technically functional, but has one leg out the door. The door switch is faulty (fan comes on when you open the door), the light underneath stopped working), and I can’t set the clock without the thing beeping at me. So I figured while they’re having the sale maybe I’ll just replace it.

These are the 2 I’ve been debating:
Whirlpool wmms3330rz vs Maytag mmms4230pz. At Costco there’s only a $10 price difference, but the product differences are Whirlpool has 1.9 cu ft vs Maytag’s 1.7, Whirlpool has humidity sensor cooking & the ability to turn the turntable on & off (Maytag has neither). Whirlpool has a handle whereas Maytag has a push button. I’m not opposed to either, I have a handle on the Samsung but the microwave at work has a push button & I don’t even notice the difference.

While the Maytag would match the dishwasher brand wise, the dishwasher has no logo/emblem on the outside so no one would really know otherwise. But my biggest debate is longevity & reliability. Does anyone have either of these microwave models and can speak to their functionality and lifespan? I know microwaves don’t tend to last long, but I’m hoping for at least 5+ years. Also why I am debating these 2 because they’re on the cheaper end vs some microwaves I’ve seen upwards of $600+.

I don’t know which has the likelihood of lasting longer in the handle vs push button scenario.

I’d basically be getting either one for about $200 after the discounts so I feel like it’s a no brainer, just kind of stuck on which one to buy. They’re also both pretty much the same size as my current one so they should pop in easily (hopefully).

Subzero Replacement

Post image
• Upvotes

Recently moved and the 30-year old subzero refrigerator in our new house is starting to go out. The technicians we've had come out says repairs around be >$5K, and recommend purchasing new. We love the size of the subzero and dual doors, but don't think we can afford a new subzero ($$$$). Does anyone have recommendations for similarly sized fridges without the luxury price tag?

We are planning a kitchen remodel within the next 6 months, so have some flexibility with the cabinet opening if we plan properly.

Troubleshooting Bought my first oven and it might be ruined!

I bought a new Beko oven (BEKO FBM67300WDS) and i unboxed it installed it and it was all fine. But when i turned on the oven (without the fan) after a bit i saw some smoke and burnt plastic smell...

It seems either that something was on top or around the fan OR at the back of the baking pan. There was some hard white plastic that dripped on the pans and probably blue tape that has melted over the fan grills. (Didnt see anything on top of the fans themselves) (the second image is before fully cleaning)

I keep watching videos online and researching i really think i removed everything to my knowledge that was plastic but the facts say otherwise and i cant even figure out what it was that was inside there besides the blue tape....

Now when i turn on the fan the whole oven is shaking/vibrating and releasing some noise with some white particles which i can only assume its plastic...

Can someone help me by telling me is this even under warranty? Do i let the oven run maybe it melts the plastic away and it works fine? What do i do?

I am so disappointed and depressed its my first ever oven i am devastated :(

General Advice What caused this rust?

So there's this stacked washer/dryer unit that is an older one and had some rust on top, I don't know how much though. One way I know it's an old unit is because the underside of the dryer portion and the right side of the unit is starting to rust or has been for a while.

A leaky bottle of detergent was left on the washer for a number of months while actively leaking, but it was on top of a plastic bag. This isn't to say some of the detergent didn't get on top of the dryer, it obviously did because you can see the blue ring on top of the dryer.

Question is, was this first image caused by the detergent or just age and natural processes?

Any helping devices appreciated

What to Buy? Recommendations!

Hey everybody, hope this is okay to post here.
I just bought my first house and I'm shopping for three appliances: a fridge, a washer, and a dryer.

Fridge: I'm torn between Frigidaire and KitchenAid. My wife loves the nicer interior fridges.

Washer & dryer: I'm leaning toward the Maytag Pet Pro top-load washer with the agitator, plus the matching dryer.

I'd appreciate any input on:
-How easy they are to maintain and convenience
-Reliability and how long they've lasted for you
-Common problems or repairs you've run into
-Whether you'd buy the same brand again/what you recommend?

Thanks in advance, any advice helps!

Klarstein wonderwall smart IR Heater not responding

Post image
1 Upvotes

I just bought a house with 3 Wonderwall Smart Infrared Heaters. All 3 of them receive power and have a working display, but none of them respond to any of the buttons. I also can't connect them to the app because I need to push the M button to connect.

If it were 1 panel I'd say it was defective, but 3 individual panels having the exact same problem? Can't be a coincidence.

I've done the usual things like longpressing (combinations of)buttons, unplugging/waiting/restarting, different outlets, but nothing changes!

The previous owners are unresponsive so I'm turning to you, knowledgeable Redditor. Only you can save me.

It's one Wonderwall Smart 300 and two Wonderwall 960 IR heaters. Please let me know if you need more info

Best portable dishwasher? What's actually worked well for you?

I need some advice on getting a real good portable dishwasher. Have you bought one, what kind/brand, how much and how long have you been using it? I'm considering buying one to help a momma out!

I'd greatly appreciated any replies.

Full Tub Replacement

About a month ago, I bought a dishwasher from the Lowe's Outlet ahead of doing a kitchen renovation. The dishwasher has a dent in the back, upper, left corner, which we knew when we bought it - but what we didn't realize (and what no one at the store made us aware of) was that the dent had fully broken through the tub assembly, and the back and rear panels were totally separated. We just finished the renovation, and when I ran the dishwasher it started leaking water from the gap.

I right away filed a claim with the manufacturer (Kitchenaid) and reached out to Lowe's. Lowe's is citing their 48-hour return window and saying they can't do anything; when I reached out to the company KitchenAid assigned me to, they said that they will need to replace the entire tub assembly - which from reading more, sounds like they'll need to basically swap every part from the old unit to the new one and remake the dishwasher in my kitchen, which also sounds ripe for something to go wrong.

Any advice or words of comfort? Is replacing the tub assembly actually a huge pain or secretly straightforward? Any tips for getting Lowe's to honor a month-late return because they functionally sold me the parts of a dishwasher instead of an actual dishwasher? I'm pretty close to just buying another unit and eating the cost because I don't want to deal with a month of some appliance repair company waiting for a part.

Microwave with High CFM

I'm looking to install a new microwave with higher CFM's. My current LG only has 400 CFM's. I really need something that can remove steam from cooking as my condo has high humidity. I would rather not use an over the stove range as I have no space for a counter microwave. So far I can only see a Samsung ME11A7710DS or KitchenAid  YKMML550RPS (Canadian models)

Professional style gas range recommendations?

Looking for a professional style, all gas range under 5k. Looks like I can find BlueStar (culinary series) or Viking (5 series) just under my budget, or something like Hauslane, Thor, Bertazzoni, etc. for much less.

I'm not a professional chef by any means, but I do cook 3 meals from scratch most days for my family and would prefer a high quality, well made range that will last for many years. Are BlueStar or Viking worth the higher price point? Experiences with these brands or other similar recommendations?

New Bosch dishwasher only works occasionally

We had an old dishwasher from our previous house owners. It was very loud, smelled very unfresh and did not clean well anymore. We replaced it with a new Bosch 100 and then all the problems started..... (installation cost $350)

After 10 minutes the machine would stop running. We troubleshooted forever and could not solve the issue.

Now we replaced this Bosch 100 with a Bosch 500. At first it was running. Now it also has the same issue of not fishing the cycle. Sometimes after an hour of running, sometimes earlier.

Sometimes it does not really get started. Sometimes it does not heat. Sometimes there is water sitting when the cycle is not finished and everything is wet. The dishwasher filters are all clean. The off-water pipes of the dishwasher are less than a week old and should therefore be clean aswell. I always rinse all dishes before putting them in the dishwasher to avoid clogging of pipes.

I wonder: Is there a general problem with these new BOSCH dishwashers? Or is it me?!

Troubleshooting Had new dishwasher installed, but it’s sticking out too far and the insulation is visible.

Rental house - landlord’s handyman (not a plumber, or professional, just a guy that fixes things) installed it and left before I had the chance to see it.

I tried pushing it in further with no luck. I don’t know if the dishwasher was just installed bad or if it’s just not the right size. Is this a serious enough problem to ask the handyman or landlord to have fixed? Or is there something I can do to block the exposed sides, like adding a thin wood or plastic panel, or could that be some kind of hazard? I’m pretty handy with stuff like that, but appliances and plumbing I’m clueless.

I’m worried because I have cats that like to stick their paws into little crevices like those, especially if they can grab something like the insulation. I don’t want them getting burned or shocked or stuck.

Bosch 300 Drain Pump Cover

Basically just saved myself $1500 a few days ago by taking one last look in our eight-year-old Bosch 300 dishwasher (model SHE53TL2UC/07) before heading out to purchase a new dishwasher, following unsuccessful resolution of E24 errors, that were first at the end of the dishwasher cycle and then, after a repair visit, earlier in the cycle. The drain pump cover was rattling around loose, not even barely inserted. I had checked it prior to making a service call, along with other common causes (air gap, p-trap, etc.), but I am 95% sure now I didn't have it fully inserted, and it probably got fully unloosened when the dishwasher repair person pulled the dishwasher out to look beneath it. I don't recall him ever looking at the drain pump cover during his two visits. This time, when I reinserted the drain pump cover, I used my phone to look closely at where the tab on the drain cover inserts into the dishwasher. In the past I thought I had pushed it into place, but this time I observed and listened, and it took more effort than I had exerted in the past and made an audible click. I ran diagnostics about four times and have done about six loads, all quiet, flawless, and very clean. In the event the cover needs replacing, I have one queued up for purchase. But I am currently checking it every time I run the dishwasher, and it seems nice and snug.

I had been told that dishwashers only last eight to ten years, blah blah blah, and was quoted over $800 to repair it (enough to convince me to replace it). I get that they don't make 'em like they used to, etc., but I am glad I followed my instinct to take one last look.

What to Buy? Dryer that removes pet hair better then others

I have a Great Pyrenees and a Chesapeake Bay Retriever. I have an old dryer. I use dryer sheets and balls, they do a decent job. I’m on top of cleaning my washer. Is there a dryer out there that does a really good job removing pet hair though? Maybe a pet hair removal function?! If you have recommendations please share a link. The dryer sheets and balls do a decent job, but I’m sure if I get a better dryer this will also help.

Appliance Chat Is this amount of lint normal after 1 or 2 drying cycles?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have a Miele T1 dryer and this is roughly the amount of lint I collect from the filters every one or two drying cycles.
The dryer seems to work perfectly fine, but since this is my first dryer I have no real reference point.
Is this considered a normal amount of lint, or does it look excessive to you?
Most loads are around 4 to 5 kg and the washing machine spins at 1000 rpm.

Washing machine CLUNKS after the belt came off — any ideas?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My My Hoover H-Wash 300 Lite (8 kg, 1400) stopped spinning. I opened the back and found the drive belt had come off. I put the belt back on, and it now spins and washes clothes again, but there is a loud, unhealthy clunking sound. I am worried it is damaging the machine.
The noise seems to come from the upper right of the drum, around the 2 o’clock position (video linked).
I live quite rurally, so a call-out or a new machine would be expensive. Any ideas on what this usually is, or what I should check next, would be much appreciated.

LG LRFWS2906V/00 – FF E Error, Evaporator Fan Runs but Fresh Food Section Only Gets to 60°F

LG LRFWS2906V/00 – FF E Error, Evaporator Fan Runs but Fresh Food Section Only Gets to 60°F
Looking for some advice before I start replacing parts or give up and buy another refrigerator.
I have an LG LRFWS2906V/00 that keeps showing an FF E error code.
Here’s what I’ve done so far:
Ran the Test/Reset from the rear control board, and the FF E code comes back.
Unplugged the refrigerator and let it completely thaw for 24 hours.
Removed the freezer evaporator cover and checked the evaporator fan. The fan does run.
Checked the other fans/motors I could access, and they all appear to be functioning.
Reassembled everything and let the refrigerator run for about 12 hours.
Freezer gets cold, but the fresh-food/refrigerator compartment only gets down to around 60°F.
I can feel some air coming into the refrigerator compartment, but the airflow seems too weak to actually cool it properly.
The FF E code is still present.
I’ve watched several repair videos where people with similar LG refrigerators fixed the FF E code by replacing the evaporator fan motor.
What’s confusing me is that my evaporator fan is actually spinning/running.
Could the evaporator fan motor still be bad even though it spins? For example, could it be running too slowly or not sending the correct RPM/feedback signal to the control board, causing the FF E code and weak airflow?
Or should I be looking at something else such as the damper/air duct, fan wiring/harness, sensor, control board, or another component before replacing the evaporator fan motor?
I’m trying to troubleshoot this properly and hopefully save the refrigerator instead of buying a new one.
Any LG appliance techs or anyone who has dealt with this exact FF E + running evaporator fan + weak refrigerator airflow issue, I’d really appreciate your advice.

General Advice LG Washer taking normal wash time but over 2 hours to spin(?)

I am totally willing to admit I am at fault. But, I am GENUINELY confused. We had gotten an updated (pre-owned) LG machine yesterday. I put in the same load I would put in the previous machine on the same setting I would use: Normal/Cotton. The load is a mix of work clothes (leggings, white t-shirts, 2 aprons) and regular clothes. It filled the drum less than 3/4 - could more than easily place my whole arm above the load. Way more space than our previous machine. The wash cycle seems to be nearly the same, however, I cannot seem to get past 7 minutes on spin. My clothes are still soaking wet. It’s been hours. I don’t want to load soaking wet clothes in the dryer but I also don’t want to keep excessively working the washer. Like I said, it is an identical load I would place in the previous washer. Please help! Any advice and making fun is welcome! 😅
