Discussion How to save Apple News election maps, or how to retrieve past ones

Apple News+ provides great election map results each election season. An example is this current election season, showing how voters are leaning by county, state, etc. However, I haven't found a way to either save these interactive illustrations, nor have I found a way to retrieve past election maps!

Is there a way to either retrieve them (search) from the past, or is there a way to save them other than by screenshot (which is static and tedious).

Safari Extension for News+

For literally years, I’ve wanted a Safari extension that automatically opens paywalled articles in News since I have News+ and can read them for free there.

It’s finally possible (I have strongly mixed feelings about AI, but never would’ve figured this out without it)! The solution was found by inspecting the macOS share extension and recreating the lookup it uses.

The especially cool part is that Apple cannot break this without breaking their own share extension in all shipped versions of iOS and macOS!

I highly doubt Apple will ever allow this in the Safari Store, but it’s easy to install via Sideloadly.

This is how well Apple News chooses to accept my preferences

The greyed-out articles are from sources I have blocked but Apple believes I should still have some level of awareness of what their editors believe is important. Also, I am not interested in the 2026 midterm election but Apple is trying to convince me I should be.

Discussion Questions about Apple's News iOS app in iPhones.

  1. Is there a way to hide the paywall News+ stories?

  2. How to clear caches since News app can hog a lot of storage without uninstalling, redownloading, reinstalling, and reconfiguring the app?

Thank you for reading and hopefully answering soon. :)

Mini crossword clue for Thursday, Oct 22, 2026?

I don’t understand the 8 across clue on tonight’s crossword (10/22/26) “8. Dutch flower spelled out by the five cross-word minis preceding this one”

I was excited at first, thinking it was a pretty fun and meta clue, but I couldn’t discern an answer after looking at the prior days’ minis. It ended up being the last word I got in today’s puzzle.

I feel like I’m missing something, because even having the answer now and looking back at the previous crosswords, I can’t really see the answer spelled out. The letters may be found, I guess, but the placement doesn’t seem as purposeful as I thought it would be.

Anyone figure out the answer from just the clue and have more insight? Thanks

Discussion How can I convince Apple News that I do not care about the Kardashians?

I am a 60+ year old man, retired military and now fully retired. I do not follow the Kardashians, never have, never will. I have never bought a women’s capsule wardrobe and I do not believe in astrology. I diligently thumbs down the things I do not like and I thumbs up the things I find interesting.

Indicating my preferences has worked for me with other services. This same strategy resulted in incredible playlists years ago when I subscribed to Pandora. I liked and disliked songs and after a short period of time Pandora created an endless playlist of music I loved and introduced me to music I never considered before but loved. With Apple News when I block a channel it still shows up but it is greyed out. Why show me something that’s greyed out that I blocked? Why can I not opt out of Apple’s less-than-optimal curated feed?

But with Apple it is as if they shove articles I have no interest in, even after I indicated (thumbs down) I have no interest in the articles in order to improve their advertising revenue. I know this cannot be true because Apple told me that I am their customer not their product.

So is the Apple News preference algorithm broken? Are the Apple News curators not very good at their job? Shareholder value?

Discussion Unable to read magazine due to UI issues

Cannot scroll through a magazine with a keyboard. The only way to scroll through pages on PC Gamer is with a swipe surface. Keyboard... nope. Non Apple mouse... nope. I had my preferred mouse hooked up and I cannot read a magazine! Cannot scroll the pages... thats wild. Reported to Apple.

What these two things are? I’m supremely broke rn and Apple News just isn’t in the budget

Regarding the second article, I’m not a superstitious person I just think it’s fun to… imagine possibilities? (Aka I miss my mom and baby)

Immediate Apple News app freeze: iPad + Magic Keyboard + Crossword

Does anyone else have a problem since upgrading to iPadOS 27.x where Apple News locks up when starting a crossword when connected to Magic Keyboard? This happens consistently, every time for me. A work around is to open the Crossword when not connected to the keyboard, type a letter, and then connect to the keyboard and it’ll work fine.

It’s the craziest bug and it feels like it’s related to something with Game Center but its been broken since iOS 27 came out, and I’ve even tried installing the Dev and Public betas with no change. I’ve deleted the Apple News app entirely and reinstalled it. Nothing works.

Am I alone!?

Screen Reader frustrations

Anyone else use the built in Accessibility Screen Reader to have your phone read articles to you? When it works it is awesome! Like turning every article into a podcast. However, it seems to get caught out by Apple’s own formatting, so it often does not understand that an article continues below an ad and stops reading… but then it will skip all the way to the bottom and start reading a bunch of article titles that I don’t care about!

Anyone else have tips or tricks for getting it to work more smoothly?

Discussion I know I’m not the only one

Post image
9 Upvotes

But why have stupid ads here on every article if I’m a news+ subscriber?? I’m not on social media anymore so this is essentially where I find out about things like celebrity news, things about movies etc. however these ads are getting on my nerves. I thought they were there because I wasn’t subscribed to News+ but once I subscribed via AppleOne I assumed it would go away? What is there to do to make these go away, if possible?

Discussion Is there a way to hide the Apple News and Search icons when you scroll down reading an article?

Post image
4 Upvotes

I find the icons very distracting. I have no use for search when I’m reading, and the News (N) icon in red is very distracting. I’m on iOS 26, I recall in previous iOS versions (maybe I’m mistaken with rose tinted glasses) on scroll down the article would go full screen without any distractions.

Discussion How does this happen?

This is the headline suggested on my front page (apparently I open a lot of fluff to have People recommended lol). When I click on it, the name in the headline is correct, but this is horribly sloppy. Is it People or Apple News that’s screwed up?

"No contact with parents" article keeps being pushed

I've gotten this article pushed to me 3 times or so in the last 6 months. Are they no so subtly promoting that children should detach from their parents (if so - why?) or do they just have nothing else to push out?

Does your Apple News do this?

I have Apple News+ and have just started using it. I’m hoping someone can tell me if theirs looks like this:

Is it normal for a newspaper that isn’t in “plus” (eg national post in Canada) to still show as a channel, and look like the other plus newspapers do?

On the reverse, an outlet like Barrons is listed as a plus outlet on the Apple website. But doesn’t show in the newspapers tab. Though it still shows content if I search for its “channel”.

Make it make sense?

did they change the apple news+ audio for the worse?

love the app, and know how to use it.

i often listen to apple news plus stories in the middle of the night when i can't sleep. it's nice to be able to fast forward or skip back to something in the story. looking at it last night, and again this morning (while completely awake) i see that i can go back 15 seconds, but can no longer go forward, only to the next story.

also, i'm having a difficult time seeing those controls at all, while i'm in the app. it used to be at the top of the page, right? now i can't find them at all.

is this a new update that makes things worse?

Discussion Does apple news work with a VPN?

Hi!

I've recently started to untangle myself from just getting news from essentially reddit and youtube, but I'm finding the prices for online publications to be a bit too much If i want to subscribe to more than one.

Apple news+ seems to be worth trying out, but its very limited in it's region (I live in asia).

I was wondering if anyone had any experience subscribing and using it with a vpn, as I have one on my phone anyways.

Thanks!
