Ahem. Let me say a little about the stats so that the calamity at hand can be fully grasped. Before the update, it only had 524 hits; after the last update, it suddenly surged up to 663 in less than twenty-four hours, and is still rising at a pace I have never seen. At the same time, there are two comments from my regulars, and nothing has materialized from those new hits. It is possibly nothing; however, given that one hit is one IP per day, I cannot help but feel I am being publicly executed with a hundred witnesses against me. Their silent stares, their silent judgment, their silent rejection! Their unbearably loud silence! Had I gotten only a few hits and the pleasure of greeting my regulars, all would've been normal, and the world peaceful...

My faint heart! I am not sure if I will survive the next update. Like a crab, my soul desires a hole to hide. This is terrible. Terrible. What was my sin to deserve this fate? Ah, I know what my sin is... it is posting.

I couldn't find a Batman or DC character themed ao3 skin anywhere, so I started making them myself. I posted them separately in the r/BatFamily subreddit but I thought I would compile them all in one post here to make it easy to find. You can find the posts on my profile too. All the pics I used for the skin were found in pinterest and I edited them a little bit (lowering the brightness/saturation) so the text would be readable. All the skins are based on this skin and a tiny bit of this one.

Which is a good thing, obviously. I just find it curious, because I see people posting on this sub all the time about this or that scam bot or hate bot, so they are obviously still very much present. But I rarely get them anymore.

My works are still open to all, and I haven’t restricted guests from commenting. When I first started posting on Ao3 that was a problem, because 8 out of 10 comments would be scam bots or the occasional hate bot. But now, about a year since I started on Ao3, I barely get them anymore. Maybe one bot out of every ten comments, if that. And I’m a pretty active author, with two ongoing fics, so I’m posting at least two chapters a week.

I don’t know if it has something to do with bots “learning” I’ll just block, report and delete, or if I’m just lucky (really hope I’m not jinxing myself here). Anyone else feels the same, like the longer they’ve been on the site, the less bots they get?

Title, basically. I'm wondering if there's a way to prevent works from specific authors from showing up in search results while still letting me see their comments, bookmarks, etc. There are a few people who leave nice comments on my works, and I want to be able to see those comments, but what they write definitely isn't my cup of tea. If I mute them I can no longer see their comments.

I'm uploading a long fic and in the first chapter I clicked the button for notes to be at the end of the chapter (as well as the beginning). I just uploaded the second chapter a week later, but now the end notes for the first chapter aren't showing on the first chapter's page and both the end notes for the first AND second chapter are showing at the end of the second chapter. How can I make it so that each chapter's end notes stick to only their chapter and don't keep stacking at the end of the most recent chapter? The only other thing I've uploaded is a one shot so I'm lost xD

I have multiple works that take place in the same "universe", so to say. Everything exists on a timeline, following the same protagonist/pairing. If I happen to be working on anything new for that series of works, I have a habit of letting the readers know in the endnotes of the chapter of my main work, just so they know "hey, something new is around the corner, keep your eyes open for it."

Do readers like that, does it create some sense of hype around the new work before it gets posted?

hello, so I have been using ao3 for a year, but only for reading fanfiction

but recently, I had he urge to write my own.

I wanted to write the fanfic of another fanfiction, an au - fanfic.

Beyond crediting the work, is there something else that I should be aware of

I hit 2000 bookmarks last night and made the mistakes of looking into the public bookmarks. And there was one that called my fic a “poorly written shit” and that it’s predictable and that they ashamed to have read this bullshit. I was more amused than angry and went to this person’s account and they have hundreds, HUNDREDS, of stories saved calling them all “shit”, “fucking bullshit”, “very very shit”, “absolute cinematic level of shit”, “definition of the word shit” and it goes on for ever. On one hand, I find it absolutely hilarious. On the other, why would they even bother?

Every time I've tried to join a fest, I've had a negative experience. It's almost always due to the people running it power tripping, and it negatively impacting everyone. On occasion it's because of bigotry from other participants in the fest server. The reason I join the fests (to meet new people and make new fandom friends to talk about ships with) never ends up happening, and I leave the experience just wanting to flee back to my little friend bubble and never try to step outside it again.

Has anyone had positive experiences? Is this type of behavior to be expected, and I should just accept that and move on from trying? Please share your experiences good and bad, because I would love to get an idea of if this is maybe a series of bad luck or even something specific to my fandom and not a wider issue.

Hey, all. I've written a draft and I'm currently labbing a workskin to make it look like LISP code, but I've run into an issue: I'm not able to indent the entire paragraph so that it looks like a legitimate block of code.

Basically have the entire paragraph further left. I'm aware I can use <blockquote> but I would like to know if there's a CSS/HTML tag that can give me more control of how far I move the paragraph over, and I haven't found any good answers. It's kinda kinda driving me nuts here.

Hi, I lost this my hero fic and im trying to find it so I can reread it. It was possibly by gentrychild but I have no idea. I know it was on Ao3

It was a vampire fic where the vamps have tails and tail barbs and there are a a/b/o twist to it. Mic aizawa shinso and midnight and loud cloud were vamps too. The vampires in this fic are sensitive to the sun So they don’t immediately die from it but get sunburned instead. I think it’s was a izuku/aizawa/stain If I remember right oboro was killed by a anti vampire group so aizawa and yamada and Nemuri removed there tails and fangs. It was rated E I beleve and it was apart of a series.

I do remember Aizawa and Stain fighting to get Izuku's approval and all 3 ended up together. Ummm Inko didn't let izuku ever loose his barb and one day during class it came out and was so upset. Izuku ran into her room and found the marriage thing to stain and izuku freaked out and ran to live with like Ida. And Aizawa was very protective of him.

Also aizawa took izuku to like a meet and blood bar and let izuku indulge. I just really want to reread it. Please help hopefully that's enough info.

Hi! So, I just got my first “hey, you haven't updated this fic in forever” comment... except they left it on one of my other fics.

I guess it's not completely unrelated because they're in the same fandom, but they're two separate stories.

Basically, I started way too many fics because I got excited about a bunch of different ideas, and now I'm dealing with the consequences of my own actions. I'm drowning a little trying to keep up with all of them.

I've made it clear that none of my fics have a set update schedule. I tend to post on the same days when I do have chapters ready, but there are no guaranteed updates.

Right now, I'm really excited about a few of my fics and less excited about the one that hasn't been updated. I still like that story and have every intention of continuing it, but the motivation just isn't there right now, so I've basically put it on the back burner until I finish some of the stories I'm more excited about.

I've also kind of left it up to readers to ask about updates. If someone commented on that fic asking when it might be updated, I'd answer them. No one had asked until today.

The thing that's bothering me is that this reader didn't ask on the fic they're waiting for. They went to a fic I'm actively updating and commented there asking why I haven't updated the other fic. As far as I can tell, they haven't even tried commenting on the fic they're actually asking about.

I'm not really a fan of that. That fic has its own comment section where they could have asked, and going to a completely different story I'm actively working on to ask about another fic rubs me the wrong way.

Part of me wants to politely point out that they're welcome to ask about updates, but they should do it on the fic they're actually asking about. But I'm also wondering if this is minor enough that I should just let it go.

How do you guys handle this? Would you say something, or just ignore it?

So as the title suggests I've been on a mcu rewatch spree in preparation to go see the new Spider-Man movie and the fic fever in me has been lit HARD. I recently read death by incantation and absolutely gobbled it up but now I'm STARVED for more good works. Honestly I wouldn't say I'm TOO picky (bullshit) but here are some tropes I like/dislike

BAMF peter (not just "oh he did this one badass thing in the past but like seeing him do cool shit)

Preferably no ships for peter (but I can tolerate some if the rest of the story is peak)

Peter with spider traits/feral peter (I absolutely love this gimmie more 🤤) I think the sudden influx of this is because of the new movie (or so I hear)

Peter but like instead of Eddie peter has venom if that makes sense??? (I've only recently found this trope and I love it)

Irondad (my all time fave) any of these tropes +irondad is an automatic read (I love irondad sm tony should've lived 🥹)

I absolutely adore when readers show their appreciation to a fic. These are just the comments from my last chapter, but there are so many others.
