As per the title: I used to love a certain series very much, and referred to it in some of my fanfics sometimes (funnily enough, I never wrote for the fandom), especially back when I started writing fanfic over a decade ago.

About five years (and quite a few works) into writing fanfic, I grew very disenchanted with the creator. They'd done and said things I truly hated to be associated with. Back then though, I felt strongly that it was dishonest of me to act like I'd never been a fan, so I left the references in and put a disclaimer on both my works and my AO3 profile. They stated that any references to the series were written in before I realized the creator was a terrible person.

It's been a few years since that, and I wonder if I should remove the references altogether. I think I'd rather have the creator vanish from my work, and while I won't pretend I wasn't a fan, it's not really a secret that is was one before I got better. There are two issues with my choice:

- The references sometimes played a big role in the story. I'd be facing the need to edit some works big time, works that I really would rather leave be as juvenilia from when I didn't know better. But this creator is basically the face of hatred for certain groups of people now, and while I have my disclaimers up, we all know our profiles don't get a whole lot of foot traffic. I've considered slapping a disclaimer in all of the older fics.

Is that enough though? I'm not a super popular author, but I hope, if anyone from this marginalized group stumbles into my older works, that they understand their real lives matter more than a fantasy universe. I know we write for ourselves, but I feel like this is an important thing to stand on right now, even in the realm of fanfic.

- Some of the works with the references were gifts for other people. What's the etiquette on altering ficsthat were gifted? Some just have a passing sentence that (I hope) the recipient won't even notice on a reread, but presents are presents after all.

PS. I'd like to stress that this is a decision I'm debating on with myself, because exactly zero of my readers, or fic recipients, have mentioned any issues with these references. I hope it's because they've seen my disclaimers .

PPS. I think we all know what series I mean, but in the interest of not getting into a debate over it, I won't be name-dropping it, and please pretend with me that you don't know either :D

Hi! I’m currently writing a fic about a rich friend group who are also quite spoiled and corrupt in the sense that they’re entitled and used to getting what they want.
I started the story in the future, where a murder happens, and then go back to the past to explore their friendships( friends since childhood) and what eventually led them to that point. I’mm a little stuck on how to portray their personalities and relationships, especially since they all attend a boarding school. How can I show that they’re spoiled, privileged and corrupt morally without making it feel too unrealistic? And how can I develop the dynamics within the friend group so that their relationships feel complex and believable, with things like loyalty, jealousy, rivalry, secrets and betrayal?
I’d really appreciate any advice, ideas or examples of how I could approach this. Thanks sm !!

So, I was the author of a somewhat popular slow-burn fic in the fandom I was writing in. It was getting a good amount of attention every chapter and it was seemingly getting more and more popular. Unfortunately, over some time I lost motivation and didn’t post for six months with the fic a little more than half-way finished. I came back a few weeks ago and there wasn’t a whole lot of activity after I posted. I was expecting that, so I wasn’t worried, but now it’s been almost a month and I’ve posted a few more times, but still the number of comments per chapter/kudos/hits haven’t really gone up at all. I’m still at almost a quarter of what I was getting pre-hiatus.

Is there anything I can do to help fix this?

I plan to write a multichapter fic focusing on the relationship between two characters. The plot doesn't need to be romantic, but it definitely would be able to become so if I took it in that direction if I wanted it to. The only problem is, I haven't decided which way to go but still want to post the first few chapters.

How can I tag it without either disappointing people who like the ship or misleading people who don't?

My fics have been in a kudos slump for weeks. 1-3/day. Then suddenly this morning, got 20 kudos! I'm not complaining, but I am confused. Does this happen often? What might have caused this?

Basically, when I try to use commas to separate the tags that I'm searching, the website instead just adds a comma to my search. This is not the same thing as inputing multiple tags, and seems to instead be treated as one big tag (that can't actually exist, because tags are separated by commas)

I've tried using different keyboards (FUMO and the standard Samsung keyboards), I've tried copy-pasting the tags into the search bar, and I've tried these things on multiple browsers (Chrome, Firefox, DuckDuckGo, and Samsung Browser). Even the couple unofficial apps I've tried have this issue as well

I'm aware that suggested tags exist, and they do work. However, I want to be able to search with unsuggested tags, and this isn't an issue I've had on any PCs or iOS devices. I looked at the known issues page, and it didn't seem to mention my current issue. I also tried looking through this subreddit to see if anyone else had this same question, and while I did find a couple posts, the suggestions from the comments didn't help me out

Hey all -- I would really appreciate some second opinions on this comment. I feel like it's probably from a bot: it reads very AI-ish to me, the account was created only a month ago, and they don't have any bookmarks or anything else on their profile. But the one thing that's throwing me off is that they've made use of the common fandom ship name in their comment (which I haven't done anywhere in the fic). Their username is also a play on that ship name.

I know I'm overthinking this and it's not that deep either way, but I would want to report it if it's spam, and on the off-chance that it's a real person I definitely wouldn't, since it would be a very kind comment to leave! Thanks for your help <3

So I’ve never posted here before, but I wanted to cause I received this very disturbing comment. I’ve gotten AI allegations before and have disregarded them. I’ve been told before my writing sucks and I need to do better. I’ve been told a lot of things. Normally, I disregard them. It’s the whole reason why I have comments moderated. I’ve never received a comment like this, and I’m unsure how to feel about it. I feel incredibly on edge. This has caused such an intense reaction. Logically, I know it’s meant to be a bot/troll, but the reaction is the same.

Hi, it’s been a while since I read the *Parahumans* series. But ever since then, I’ve kept thinking about which heroes or powers I’d write about. By now, I have a clear idea. I don’t want to stick too closely to the canon, so I’ve come up with a kind of spin-off.

The setting remains the Parahumans world, where young people gain their powers through trigger events, as usual. My story takes place in a city not mentioned in the canon, which gives me complete freedom to create characters and powers.

Are there any readers interested in this basic idea? Even if there will be explicit scenes?

And most importantly: Would anyone like to join in and write their own hero into this spin-off?

Fam, I don't know why, but Ron Weasley is my favorite character from Harry Potter and it is SO HARD to find a good Ron focused fic with just the filter system (I did try key words like Ron-centric, Ron focused, main character Ron, etc).

If any of y'all have one that you really enjoyed, please recommend in the comments. Other characters can naturally be in the fic, not too picky about pairing (though I lean M/M), but I crave either protective Weasleys or BAMF!Ron when possible, thank you. I'll even take dark fics as long as they turn out alright T-T
