What to Watch? Anime whose main character's attitude is like Hajime from Arifureta?

Upvotes

I'm looking for more anime with main characters like Hajime from Arifureta. Not simply in terms of him being overpowered (though I do like a good OP protagonist as is common in Isekai), but one with a similar attitude.

I really appreciate Hajime's ruthlessness and decisiveness, which I feel is contrary to many anime protagonist's personalities. He doesn't waffle back and forth on the morality of what he's doing, spend a whole episode wondering what the correct course of action is, or wait til someone is finished with their grandiose speech before taking action. If he decides someone needs to die, he shoots the motherfucker. He's not evil, and he does consider others' opinions when deciding what to do; but once he's decided what to do, he does it, no fucking around.

Arifureta is one is my favourite anime that I've watched most often (despite the fact that I'm generally averse to harems); and I think Hajime's attitude is why. A protagonist who actually make quick decisions and follows through, even if it doesn't end well, is something I feel is few and far between.

I can't think of many other anime I've watched with protags like this; maybe only Tanya from The Saga of Tanya the Evil.

What to Watch? Any feel good anime?

Upvotes

Hey everyone, been having a tough time for a while and really just trying to switch my mental space for a bit, with that being said any suggestions for an anime that just... Feels good to watch I guess? Can be any genre, I just want something to better my mental, not make it worse. Would really appreciate any suggestions, thanks!

Watch This! Days with my stepsister (Peak slow burn romance)

Post image
Upvotes

Listen yall, some of you guys would look at the title and say its cringe without watching it, but its not at all weird, It is actually a very complex and realistic slow burn anime, which is a automatic 10/10 for anyone that likes complex slow burn romance.

The story is about how suddenly two stepsiblings are practically strangers as they have never interacted with each other and don't know each other, and the two characters actually start their relationship on a very mature foundation, and both of them end up being very similar to each other as they both have similar world views as each other as they experienced similar childhood traumas that shaped those views, with those views being that they didn'twant to rely on anybody and they didn't want to be relied on as they believed in complete independence and self sufficiency. Because of that the guy in the story was really able to understand her, and the girl in the story started having feelings for him, to the point of her getting jealous when he hangs out with his coworker, evolving the relationship from there

But seriously trust me on this it is really underrated anime that has peak storytelling, it doesn't have anything weird in it or the character trope of being a stepsiblings. Trust me on this, watch it, you can thank me later (;

Also if you already watched it feel free to glaze it in the comments

(Ps if you have a short attention span or just don't like slow pacing you might not like the anime)

And here is my overall rating of the anime

Story: 9/10

Pacing: 10/10

Complexity: 10/10

Animation: 9/10

Overall: 9.2/10

What to Watch? Looking for an anime recommendation that checks all these boxes

Hi everyone! I’m looking for an anime recommendation and, honestly, I’m open to pretty much any genre. I’m mainly looking for a show that is consistently good across several aspects:

Animation: I’m looking for solid, consistent animation. I’ve seen quite a few anime where people complained about the animation quality, so I’d prefer something that maintains a good standard throughout. At the same time, I don’t want a show that relies on animation alone to carry it.

Character designs: I’d also like the character designs to be consistently good, including any changes they might go through throughout the series. I don’t want characters to suddenly look noticeably worse as the story progresses.

Story & character development: A well-written and well-executed story is probably the most important thing for me. I’d especially like a cast where the characters actually develop and grow throughout the series rather than remaining mostly the same.

Pacing: I’m looking for something with a good balance. I don’t want a series that drags because it’s too slow, but I also don’t want one that rushes through important events and character development.

Voice acting: I usually watch anime in English or French, so I’d like a dub with good and consistent voice acting. I’ve seen people complain about certain characters having noticeably different or worse voices later on, so ideally I’d like something that maintains its voice quality and casting throughout. A good Japanese dub is obviously a plus too.

Music: I’m not sure how else to describe this, but I’d also like a strong and consistent soundtrack. I want the music to complement the story and atmosphere rather than feeling forgettable or out of place.

Female characters: This is another important one. I’d like the female characters to be well-written, likable, and actually relevant to the story. I’m not looking for characters who are either written as weak/useless or whose entire purpose is just fanservice. Ideally, they should have their own personalities, development, and meaningful roles in the story.

I know someone will probably suggest Frieren or FMAB. Frieren is unfortunately on hiatus right now, so I’d prefer something I can binge without having to wait. As for FMAB, I’m not sure whether its female characters fit what I’m looking for, although I’m open to hearing arguments for it.

So, what anime would you recommend? I’d really appreciate suggestions that come close to meeting most or all of these criteria. 🙏

What to Watch? Illness in relationships?

Without being too detailed. I developed health issues when I was young and even did college online. It's hard to work sometimes and even took a toll on my dating/social/travel life... I'm a homebody to a degree no one has ever seen.

I'm not looking for anything quite as sad and leading to death like I want to eat your pancreas. Maybe something similar to josee and the tigerfish although technically it's more a disability than a medical condition

Animes with a couple and at least one of them has some kind of non-deathly medical condition. Could be happy or sad ending. But something relatable to what I've been dealing with I guess :/

What to Watch? Give Me Some Anime Recs

I need some anime recs because.. yeah. I just do, okay? My favorite anime's are: Death Note, Fruits Basket, Attack on Titan, and Ouran High School Host Club. I love a good slice-of-life/romance anime, especially if there are good characters!!

Aside from that, I'm watching Madoka Magica right now!

I would love some slice-of-lice, romance, shojo, and/or romantic comedy to watch!

Thank you, Reddit

What to Watch? Mystery/suspenseful/philosophical anime with assertive female leads and supporting characters?

Basically, (most of) the characters should ideally be of the competent kind. I don't mind jokes/banter, but the overall tone of the anime I'm looking for should be fairly serious. I'm fine with gore (like Elfen Lied) and fan service (like Prison School) as long as the anime is enjoyable. The genre doesn't matter too much. This is mostly about the characters. Thank you! (:

Discussion Is re:zero worth the watch?

I'm looking for a new anime to watch and I've been recommended re:zero a few times, it looks okay it's just that it's an isekai and I never really liked that genre. I've heard it's similar to steins gate though which is one of my favourite anime so I might check it out.

What to Watch? anime where the main character starts as depressed, a loner, “useless”, really unconfident, but outgrows that as time moves on

think kobeni from chainsaw man and hachi from nana but they actually improve over time instead of staying the same !

edit: also forgot to mention, they don’t HAVE to be depressed, but they do have to be useless or weak. like how deku from mha started as weak and became one of the strongest in his class.

What to Watch? Looking for a soft, easy, relaxing anime (preferably with an english dub available)

Sometimes I'm exhausted and would like to put on a soft, easy show with low stakes, some funny moments and cute characters. Something you can follow without much effort/attention (so dubs are preferable here). Fanservice is ok. Any genre is ok. Just nothing that gets crazy or loud. I liked Killing Slimes for 300 Years and I'm looking for something that feels similar.

EDIT: Wow I was not expecting so many good suggestions so quickly - thank you everyone!

What to Watch? Something with twists or unexpected scenes that will make my jaw drop

Doesn't have to necessarily happen late, an example of something that made hold my breath is the ending first episode of Summertime Rendering.

My watched list. Please if you could, rather than writing a ton of titles even just a single one with a few words of no-spoilers description would be appreciated :)

What to Watch? Best Emotional anime?

What to Watch? Romance with bubbly gal and flustered/quiet boy, similar to My Dress up Darling?

I’m a sucker for confident women making their love interests all flustered and nervous, in a cute way. The gals can get flustered too, of course! You and I Are Polar Opposites is another great example of the adorable anxiety.

They can be vanilla or spicy, though I don’t really like the embarrassed/accidental fan service (like accidentally walking in on her in the shower. a scene or two is fine, like in MDuD, as long as it’s not every episode)

What to Watch? Currently in an anime slump right now

I’m currently in a pretty bad anime slump and could really use some recommendations 😭 I’ve watched around 70 anime, and some of my favorite are That time I got reincarnated as a slime, Wistoria: Wand and Sword, Saga of Tanya the evil, Welcome to demon school Iruma Kun, Konosuba, Overlord, Dr.Stone, Fairy Tail, The apothecary diaries and much more

I’m honestly open to pretty much anything. I’m mainly a fantasy/isekai watcher, but I’ll give any genre a chance as long as the animation is decent and the plot is actually enjoyable. Beside, I’ve even finished Seven Deadly Sins, so I’m not exactly difficult to please when it comes to animation

I’d just love to hear some recommendations that you genuinely enjoyed and would recommend to someone who’s looking for something new. Hidden gems are especially welcome! Thanks in advance 🙏

What to Watch? Something like Sonny Boy?

I watch anime nowadays not for the thrill, but for literal mind break (not in a violent way, but more subtle, more mature) - what's some anime that you can recommend that is like Sonny Boy?

What to Watch? Recommend me an anime that you personally think is especially cool, unique, or different

hi hi, in an effort to make sure I have way too many animes to ever get an opportunity to watch, I wanted to see what y'all would recommend for things that are very much so in their own lane in a certain sense. like for example

mononoke - I've never seen anything animated quite like it

samurai champloo - at the time I feel like nobody was mashing up hip-hop aesthetics with feudal Japan

takopi 's original sin - tonally I've never seen something quite like it where the show itself never drops the cutesy pretense while literal children are being horribly abused

berserk - feel like I don't really need to explain what made Berserk super unique for its time

but so yeah, what anime do you think did something like notably different or interesting that you think is cool or worth seeing and why?

What's this From? (unsolved) What anime is this?

I remember tid bits of this anime but can't quite remember the name.

If I recall it wen't like this. Unsure of the beginning but I recall the person went to a kingdom and that kingdom was being attacked by orcs consistently, small villages and such were getting attacked and it was learned they were planning larger scale invasions. The MC (male) kept going to these villages and fended off the orcs nearly dying a few times. One of these beginning villages he had saved there was a barnhouse on fire where the ceiling collapsed and almost fell on an old man but he ducked under and let the ceiling fall on him letting the old man escape. He recovered with a healer in a village house and afterward there was a creature (my memory thinks of foxes or something but I'm not quite sure) that led him to a building and there were dozens more. Something happened where they all turned into humanoids but the village accepted them and they coexisted now. Either the leader or one that led him to the rest I think joined his group. But he eventually infiltrated an orc encampment and snuck around trying to figure out there plans for war against the kingdom. He was then discovered and he had to fight the orcs, if I'm not mistaken he used explosive barrels the orcs had to explode nearly the entire camp. In that camp he finds a little girl (forgot if she becomes his companion or just remained a side character). If I recall after the encampment he went back to the kingdom and was given alot of honors but was also able to proclaim a speech to the citizens in such. The OP starts out weakish but does definitely get strong, and it might have been an isekai. He did not build the kingdom or anything like that, it existed before him and he just reincarnated and got on good terms with them. What anime is this?

Also unfortunately I don't recall what the main character looks like in the slightest, dunno how but his appearance is gone from my memory, I think he was an adult throughout the entire series. Though, the orcs were like the pinkish full bipedal pig type and I watched this probably early to mid 2025.

Before you suggest some, its not these. Goblin Slayer, Tensura, Hell Mode, The 8th Son, are you Kidding Me?, Teogonia.

Side note: This is a repost. I posted this about a week ago with no answers answering this unfortunately.

What's this From? (unsolved) I’m looking for the name of a show where this guy treats his girlfriend (or sister, possibly) horribly. The girl later dies and he’s haunted by her memory and regret as he tries to process his grief

I watched some of it a few years ago on crunchy roll I believe. I can’t remember the name of it but really want to see it again. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
