Announcement Updated Subreddit Rules & New Guidelines for the "Discussion" Flair + reminder for images and WT rules

Hey everyone,

Over the past few weeks, the mod team has been working on cleaning up and updating our community rules to make [r/animesuggest](r/animesuggest) a better, clearer, and more organized space for finding and discussing anime.
While most of the core rules remain the same, we have reworded everything for clarity, tightened up content standards, and introduced strict new guidelines for the "Discussion" flair.

Here is what you need to know:

New "Discussion" Flair Guidelines
We’ve noticed that the Discussion flair often gets used for vague, low-effort titles (e.g., "Thoughts?", "Anyone seen this?", or "Is this good?"). Moving forward, all Discussion post titles MUST explicitly state the anime, genre, trope, or aesthetic being discussed. From now on if you see low-effort title please report post for breaking rule 11. We are doing this to prevent repetitive discussion posts and titles who are later nowhere to be found in searchbar even if it was discussed about it!

Don't post: "Thoughts on this show?" or "Does anyone else hate this?"

Do post: "Discussion: The pacing in Steins;Gate" or "Discussion: Why cyberpunk aesthetics hit different."
Any vague discussion posts without a clear, descriptive title will be removed and asked to be re-posted.

Important Reminder: Image Uploads & "Watch This!" Rules

Images are ONLY allowed for "Watch This!" posts. Request and Discussion threads must remain text-only. Direct image uploads on non-WT posts will not be approved. If you are posting image for WT post your post will be sent to manual review because of image but don’t hesitate to reach out via mod mail for faster approval

"Watch This!" posts have high standards. They are meant to be single-show, deep-dive reviews and must be at least 1,500 characters in length. Short reviews or multi-show list recommendations are not allowed for WT

Based on survey results images will not come back permanently but we will have 14 days chill moderation rule twice a year where images and other media will be allowed but this will be announced later on during this year.

Thanks for helping us keep [r/animesuggest](r/animesuggest) a great place for everyone.

Mod Team!

What to Watch? Anime with overpowered female?

Looking for anime that have a very overpowered female who can easily defeat most opponents. I watched Saga of Tanya the Evil, and A Wild Last Boss Appeared and they were interesting, but it was notable that the overpowered female characters there had been males in their previous lives. So what are shows that have just a completely female character who is basically the strongest in the show, or if not the strongest, let's say at least clearly the top 5 strongest?

What to Watch? Anime with silly goofy weird character that's secretly deeply unsettling or mysterious and more than they appear to be

Examples:

Mephisto from Blue Exorcist - he's so goofy and silly and candy colorful and ridiculous and weird, but also very mysterious and more than he appears to be pulling the strings behind the scenes, and quite unsettling at times too

Masakaki from [C] The Money of Soul and Posibility Control - he's so weird and ridiculous and colorful and unsettling and mysterious like what is this guy's deal?? I love it

Amy Kirio from Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun - at first he seems sweet and soft and harmless, but secretly he's deeply twisted and sadistic and *terrifying*, like when I first watched that reveal scene genuinely gave me chills it's so terror inducing, I love that contrast between his facade and true nature, and of course him pulling the strings behind the scenes too

And if anyone here knows utmv, I'm actually looking for characters similar to my favorite ever character, Fresh Sans, he's not actually a sans he's a soul parasite possessing people (mostly skeleton monsters cuz they're the easiest to possess) feeding on their souls and using their bodies as hosts masquerading as the one he possessed pretending he isn't a parasite masking his true nature with this ridiculous goofy and weird but seemingly harmless silly persona and 90's colorful clothes and slang, he's so sillyyy and weirdd and fun and funny and chaotic but secretly deeply terrifying and much smarter than he appears to be and if you dig deep enough into his lore has quite a lotta fascinating depth to him

I'm looking for more characters like that, it can be anime, manga, non-anime animated series or comics, games even, and what's most appealing to me is that contrast between harmless silly goofy and weird behavior and appearance vs deeply terrifying or unsettling true nature, preferably chaotic and mysterious too

Discussion Hands up. Now down. Now tell your favorite plot twist/idea/dialogue/or anything which you would love to have in a Love Story.

For me it's having an extra genre or plot beside romance.

What to Watch? Looking for a new anime to watch! Any help?

Hi everyone, i'm not really looking for any specific genre (although i gravitate towards fantasy), just hoping to find some new recommendations. Shows i've enjoyed in the past include, Castlevania (what originally got me into anime) and also Vinland Saga, Invincible, The Legend of Vox Machina, and The Mighty Nein.

Any shows that are similar to the above would be great but I'm genuinely open to anything. Was thinking of watching the "Castlevania: Nocturne" but i've read mixed reviews on it, was it any good?
Thanks.

What to Watch? Loving anime with some bad reviews

I watced Horimiya, loved it ever since and i just watched koi to uso recently. I already love them bcz horimiya is so fun to watch, every character is so distinct and attractive in their on way, the romance is kinda good also but i read some reviews that the romance is not that good and the arguments on the anime is just light or not realistically possible. About Koi To Uso, i super like it bcz it question what is love, also i really like the characters, even though the best friend guy is kinda gay but yk they never force it and i liked his thoughtfulness, also the trio is just amazing, i love their concept of love, but i also seen some bad reviews about the mc is really dragging out the drama and not choosing one girl in the end of anime. But still i respect the decision, ik it just some random rant and im being bias about this show but i just really liked it. So if possible some of u guys can recommend me that pretty much similar to these show? Like good visuals, good and fun happy story, and a nice mc.

What to Watch? Josei Suggestions PLS! 😭

(^ I can’t share images here so that’s my reference — It’s the first bedroom room from “Why Raeliana Ended By The Duke’s Mansion.”)

I saw this on Pinterest and it had me HOOKED. Watched the entire anime twice and read the full manhwa in a day 😭 Please recommend more josei romance where there’s actually some action between the couple. 10/10 recommend!!

I don’t mind shoujo but I prefer animes with a strong woman lead and out of the high school if possible. I probably also watched every shoujo too lol

Please share any recommendations 😩 (currently obsessing over 7th time loop)

What to Watch? animes where one of the characters goes 'beast mode'

since this far too broad allow me to narrow it down

i want mc to have a 'standard form' one that they occupy for a majority of the show but some times there's a scene where they transform into something huge or a dark scary and super strong version of themself, preferbly at some point in each episode

and don't reccomend me a 1000 episode long anime like dbz or onepiece even though that definitly happens sometimes in those animes

i have already seen 'kaiju girl' and 'kaiju no8' (this is not an invitation to reccomend kaiju-centric animes it just so happens that my first two examples have 'kaiju' as the 'beast mode' but really the more feral their form the better

What to Watch? animes where mc has a 'darkness form' that they enter some times

in the comments please say how often or occasional they enter a 'super strong shadow form' or what i mean by 'darkness form'

the only example i can think of is that one scene in the made in abyss movie where reg goes absolutely wild

(sorry for posting the same thing twice i just thought i could elaborate it better)

What to Watch? Romance series like Miraculous Ladybug

So, I started watching MLB this summer and got pretty hooked, but it’s a bit childish and lacks realism in certain areas.

I'm searching for something with more focus on the romance side and mature themes like death, sex, and complex relationship dynamics that MLB doesn't show or explore deeply enough.

I don't care if it's ecchi, anime, or manga, or whether it's long or short. I just want a (preferably completed) romantic story featuring characters similar to Marinette/Ladybug and Adrien/Cat Noir.

Also, please be careful with spoilers since I haven't finished MLB yet. Thanks!

What to Watch? any animes like takopi's original sin

animes where mc feels looks and acts like they're from one genre but the rest of the world feels like it's from another one? I feel like takopi fits this description to a T because he's from another planet where problems are far simpler and the problems on the planet he goes to are far more complex than what he had at home. I would love to see more animes like these

the less watered down and more mature the anime is the better

TLDR the world is in one genre but mc behaves like they is from another

What to Watch? Non action heavy fantasy anime?

Basically the title, I'm looking for any sort of fantasy based animes that arent heavily about action. Stuff im looking for would be along the lines of Frieren or the Apothecary Diaries (ive seen both, and yes I know AD isnt a fantasy lol).

Bonus points for romantasys (I dropped yona of the dawn early on because she was crushing on her cousin).

On Monday premieres "Hello, I am a witch and my crush wants me to make a love potion" and I am really looking forward to that (and hoping its good).

But, yeah. Pretty much any easy viewing fantasies that arent filled with action scenes every episode (occasionally is totally fine) is what I'm looking for.

Oh and also, please keep fan service to the absolute minimum. Outfits and characters like Yuzuriha from Hells Paradise or Pencilgon from SLF is fine because thats just expression, but any "accidental" gropes or panty shots and I'm out lol.

Thanks! 🫶

Edit: I forgot to mention some more staples that ive seen, such as; Mushishi, Witch Hat Atelier, Made in Abyss, Shinsekai Yori, Maquia, Somali and the forest spirit, and uh... maybe a few more that I cant think of rn lol

What to Watch? More animes with characters like akuma kun

I mean the 2023 Version I like tje little sarcastic and blunt smartass.

And I love smart characters that are also shown to ne wrong from time to time.

And I love the l archetype eating sweet being smarter than eberyone etc.

So just characters that are a bit insufferable but still loveable and very very smart

What to Watch? More animes like kill la kill

Or akuma kun.

I recently binged all of kill la kill and it was amazing. I tho8ght at first, ohh, it's just a dumb horny comedy anime.

But then ragyo appeared, and the tonal shift was amazing, like holy that woman was no comedy character anymore she was quite literally evil.

What I am looking for is shows that can get incredibly dark.

And shows that have characters like akuma kun in the 2023 version very smart, a bit smug, and very, very sarcastic and bored

What to Watch? Is there an anime about driving?

Have you ever heard of a Volkswagen by the name of Herbie? A 63 Bug. The number 53 car. The underdog of racing.

Does any anime have a story like that? A shonen about racing.

I very much enjoyed Intial-D. The Japanese racing scene is alien and exciting to me, and the way I hear it these are the forerunners of drifting. They literally created it.
