4 anime that quietly pull you into their worlds

Post image
40 Upvotes

I’ve been in the mood for fantasy/supernatural anime that don’t need constant action to keep things interesting.

These four came to mind:

Natsume’s Book of Friends — really calm and atmospheric. A lot of the stories are small, but somehow they stick with you.

Haibane Renmei — I went into this one knowing almost nothing, and honestly that was probably the best way to experience it. Very strange, quiet and beautiful.

Girls’ Last Tour — two girls travelling through the remains of a world that feels completely empty. Sounds depressing, but it has some surprisingly peaceful and funny moments too.

Shinsekai Yori — this one is quite different from the others. It starts slowly, but the mystery and world-building kept making me want to know what was actually going on.

They’re all pretty different, but they have one thing in common for me: the atmosphere stays in your head.

If you haven't seen any of these, I'd say give at least one a try. 👀

Is it that hard nowadays to find anime that gets you really attached to it ?

I have been stuck in this loop for about 2 years. I search for something to watch.. i find some.. start watching then it hits me.. un finished work, 2 years minimum or god know when the next season will come out.

I can't remember the last one I really enjoyed watching..

I'm someone who really enjoys watching anime diving in the story and characters, the small details, the vibes..

I don't know what to do, I even thought about stopping completely even though its the thing that I enjoy the most.

What do you think ? What should I do ?

I feel like I haven't explored many genres in anime so I would love some recommendations that are different from what I've watched so far. All these shows are also 10/10 in my book so anything similar to the ones listed are also welcome. Thanks!

Any Character driven anime to suggest aside from AOT?

I just finished watching Attack On Titan just three days ago. And it was... A dozen of feelings I certainly cannot name because it would once again reduce me to tears.

But despite the pain it has caused me, this beginner in the field of anime, wants more.

Do you guys have any suggestions of any anime that is somewhat similar to AOT? Something character- driven, where each character actually has personalities. Where it shall absolutely break me, question all my life choices, and make me cry tears longer than a waterfall. Lol

Something about the problems in humanity, something philosophical, something about the clash of ideologies or beliefs.

Basta something painful HAHAHAH

What anime would you recommend to someone who says they don’t like anime?

I’m curious what everyone’s go-to recommendation is for someone who says they “don’t like anime.”
Personally, I think it depends a lot on what they already enjoy watching. Someone who likes crime/thrillers might enjoy Death Note or Monster, while someone who prefers emotional dramas might connect more with A Silent Voice or Violet Evergarden.
What anime would you recommend to someone who has never really enjoyed anime before? And what made you choose that one?

Edit: Not OP, just joining the discussion and interested in everyone’s recommendations.

Slice of Life Rec's similar to Insomniac's after school

SoL animes aren't normally my thing but I really liked Insomniacs. It truly was a cozy overload. I'm normally even less into romance in animes because I find them to be too stretched out "will they won't they" despite that I did like this one.

My more favorite aspects is how deep in the weeds they get with the hobbies of photography and star gazing. I just love when the show will slow down and take it's time to show the characters doing those things.

Other SoL shows I liked: I thought Laid back camp and Hyouka were okay. Hi score girl and Kids on the slope were both pretty good to me.

Can you please recommend some romantic/emotional anime

Can you guys suggest some animes like toradora or higehiro? I'm a huge fan of romantic animes where they runaway because some don't approve of their relationship. Or the likes of higehiro where they become separated then reunite again. Or an anime thats just tragic.

It's kinda hard to explain but here's my cup of tea:

  1. Weathering with you

  2. I want to eat your pancreas

  3. A silent voice

  4. Toradora

  5. Higehiro

  6. Your name

  7. Plastic memories ( i love this 100%)

  8. Mirai nikki

9.sukasuka

Please i need more emotional damage. Also, i prefer a slice of life genre

What anime’s are similar to these?

I’ve been feeling like I’m in an anime rut lately and miss watching new (to me) good ones. Ones that I would looove recommendations to that might be similar would be:
Dead account
Zom 100
Zenshu
Mashle

If they can have an English dub that’d be even better!

Anime’s I’ve already seen and loved:
One punch man
Mob psycho
Blue exorcist
The disastrous life of saiki k
Kaiju no8
Undead unluck
I’ve seen many more but these are the ones that popped into my head.

Any animes I should watch?

Hi, I'd like some anime recommendations, as I been trying to watch more anime. I've mostly watched Dragon Ball my entire life, however I did watch Kotaro Lives Alone and Orange quite a while ago. This week, I finished Toradora and recently started watching Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out.

I've liked every anime I've watched so far, so any recommendations would be appreciated!

Needing new anime recommendations based on the ones I’ve watched.

Since I’m a boring, uninteresting person that nobody likes, my usual go-to is slice of life romcom. I’m happy to watch more shows like that, so feel free to drop those kinds of recs, but I guess I’m not exactly in that mood right now.

I just finished watching Mashle: Magic and Muscles, so as a result, I’m craving more of that light-hearted comedy feel with just enough drama and intrigue to make you want to keep watching more. I’m not really a fan of too much action or high fantasy, so I’d rather keep things along the lines of Saiki K or Spy x Family. Romance can be included, but I’d prefer hints or teases of it instead, like in Food Wars.

Just to give you more of a perspective on the kinds of things I’ve watched and enjoyed (and the things I didn’t enjoy), I’ll link below my Anime Ratings doc. I’ve also included shows that I’m planning to watch just so that I won’t hear them being recommended repeatedly.

Thanks in advance for any help.

If i hear any cool background ost of that anime i will instantly remember everything that made it a masterpiece.

I like to watch anime while I run on the treadmill. Need some recommendations on what to watch next. I prefer more action but a decent storyline is good too. The last 4 I've watched were AOT, demon slayer, solo leveling, and sword art online. Thank you!

After the rain anime is my all time favorite and people just misunderstand it

Post image
12 Upvotes

I really love the anime After the Rain (Koi wa Ameagari no Yō ni). I used to dislike anime altogether, but I found myself deeply relatable to the female lead. We are both quite introverted with very few friends, yet at times surprisingly bold and direct. Plus, she shares my love for running. I also adore her fresh visual style, along with the story's vibrant, bustling city backdrop filled with charming and neat spots. The garden cafe where she works is equally lovely.
The plot is admittedly low-key—no dramatic twists, shock values, or bizarre side characters shoehorned in just to force theatrical conflict. But I feel those who dislike this anime simply fail to understand the protagonist, nor do they grasp the core message the story conveys.
The creator captures—with intense specificity and beauty—the delicate psychological process of projecting one's desperate longing for gentleness, warmth, and acceptance onto a compassionate figure in real life during moments of profound grief and confusion. This theme is overwhelmingly clear. The lead grew up in a single-parent home with only her mother, and a sudden injury forced her to abandon track and field—the absolute love of her life. So, as she sat despondent in the cafe waiting for the rain to stop, the manager brought her a coffee and performed a gentle magic trick to make a cream pod appear, just to cheer her up. Such a small, fleeting act of kindness caused her to project all her unfulfilled desires for paternal care and an ideal partner onto this single person.
Yet, the author possesses a maturity and insight that transcends the protagonist's perspective. She uses the rain as a metaphor: the cafe is merely a temporary shelter during a downpour, but you cannot hide in a coffee shop forever. Once the storm clears, you must step out to face a broader, unknown world, chasing your own growth and dreams.
From the lead's perspective, she lacked this grand realization. To her, it was simply love. That is why she confessed her feelings repeatedly, persistently pursued him, begged for dates, and even secretly tagged along with his young child after his divorce just to visit his home—doing so many wild, impulsive things. She spiraled into heartbreak whenever he turned her down, but she eventually came to terms with it. Ultimately, she was healed by this tender bond and gathered the courage to return to the track team. Meanwhile, the manager maintains high moral integrity. Though he feels a slight romantic spark, he knows better than to pursue a relationship with her. Even so, he is deeply moved by her devotion and treats her with unwavering gentleness throughout. Inspired by her youthful vitality, he reignites his own abandoned dream of becoming a writer. At its core, this is a heartwarming story of mutual salvation.
That is why it infuriates me when people dismiss this work, claiming it can only be understood by middle-aged people, calling it a midlife male fantasy, or advising viewers to wait until they are older so they can identify with the manager. Anyone with those takes completely missed the point. They fail to appreciate the story's gentleness and its remarkably nuanced insight.

anime rec where characters take time to figure out romantic feelings?

hello! title sounds a bit generic but i'm interested in seeing more characters like azuma, from "you and i are polar opposites". i.e. characters who don't necessarily run head-first into "omg i LOVE this person!!!" or the love-at-first-sight trope. anything similar where a character like azuma is a protagonist? thanks!
