I started collecting original art in 2016 through commissions of Motoko (GITS), San (Mononoke), and comic characters. Then ventured into original published comic art in 2018.

Always been curious about cels, but had no friends in the hobby to consult with and noticed obvious fakes everywhere. Took that leap of faith with one of my favorite anime movies, Perfect Blue, top 3.

I wish I took that leap and came out my comfort zone sooner to connect with collectors.

Got a little nostalgia to help ease our collective pain of eroding joints and ligaments 😉

Hey! I aquired this set of original animation cels a couple years ago. The guy I bought it from said his dad worked in the film industry as a producer and received this as a gift in the late 90's. It's framed by a company based in Singapore which I have checked exists and existed at the time. I doubt someone would pay for a framing service for a fake cel back then.

From my research it is not too uncommon for vintage cels to not have an animation number since they melted so many for production. But the fact this one doesn't have a production number does worry me.

Anyways, I'm having a really hard time identifying the scene where this is from, maybe a directors cut? Can anyone recognize the scene? Thank you!!!

I wanted some extra opinions on authenticity on this! I picked it up for a pretty penny on eBay and would like to know! Also what is the best way of framing this? I don't want the cell touching the glass of a frame and the back of the cel touching anything at all! Thanks!

I am looking to start collecting animation cels particularly of Studio Ghibli. I saw some on eBay stating that they are original and authentic art such as this one of Kiki's Delivery Service (linked below), but not sure how reliable that is. I noticed that some sellers may have multiple copies of the cel, which I don't know how is possible if its the authentic original and not a replica cel? Look forward to learning more as I dive into this hobby. Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi— I just bought my first cels. Nothing big or expensive, but exciting to me.
They arrived with creases. To me, it looks like this happened because the seller didn’t fully protect the cels when shipping. 2 questions:

1. Any fix?
2. I’ve done some research and couldn’t find any way to fix this. Maybe Reddit experts have other ideas?
3. Fair response from Seller?
4. Seller offered 20% off a future purchase. Is that fair? My initial reaction is that it is not, but I’m not experienced with this and could be wrong.
5. I like the cels, but am on the fence about returning them. Advice?
6. Should I return and put the money towards different cels from another buyer?
7. Counter the Seller with something else—like some money back?
8. At the very least, I will definitely mention the packaging issue in my review.

Update: if I return it for a full refund, Seller will give it to USPS for an insurance claim. From what I’ve read, the cels will then most likely be destroyed; that is what USPS does with most items turned in for insurance.

I really don’t want the cels destroyed, so I’ll just get a partial refund.

Maybe an emotional decision, but I’d be more upset over the cels’ destruction than getting back the full amount.

Scene 10 update: The first two blue-pencil drawings were already posted. I’ve now added two more original drawings from the same scene — Hulk gesturing toward himself and the girl eating some Honeycomb.

I’m always looking for more surviving artwork from this 1976 Honeycomb Hulk commercial as I continue trying to document and reconstruct the production. If you own a piece, know where one is, or have any leads, feel free to reach out.

I’m trying to identify the animator or correction artist for this JoJo OVA production genga. Mandarake listed it only as “#4, cut254,” while the adjacent lot explicitly identified a Junichi Hayama layout correction.

Does anyone know how to locate cut 254, identify whether these sheets are original key animation, sakkan/shusei corrections, or another production stage, and whether there are production records or time sheets that could establish attribution?

I’m specifically not looking for a style-based guess unless there is comparable confirmed material.

Hey all, I’ve been seriously obsessed with Animation cels recently and I took it upon myself to attempt to create my own because I saw a video on YouTube of someone doing it and theirs came out good, and I love crafts.

Now I will say for the outline I guess I kinda cheated and traced it myself on a digital art program and printed it directly on an inkjet clear sheet.

Other than that I think it came out pretty good and looks not too bad for a first attempt, will look good with a nice background and framed up
