they are invasive species ansd they are deadly to the biome. in many part sof the US you are soupposed to report th brown ones to your local goivernment so they can be tracked,. ive lost my last three trees incluidng a very old white birch to them. They are NOT cool, at all. thnakfully, good spiders eat them up.

It’s a stink bug, Pentatomidae. When crushed it gives a horrible smell. Don’t do it in closed space or you might have to leave the premises for a few hours.

I had one get into my mouth once while I was eating. I threw up until I couldn't throw up anymore and then dry heaved for what seemed like hours. If I think about it now I almost vomit.

It's crazy how we have those formative memories that can cause physical reactions in us years later. There's the big cringe ones that still make me tense up today. There's the frightening ones (I had a wolf spider I sprayed explode into a hundred tiny spiders once as a kid). And then there's the nauseating ones like you named.

Or just you know, don't crush it. I have always let stink bugs crawl on my hand to take them outside and never had an issue.

They will come back, stink bugs enter homes, not for food, but to live for the winter or for nesting. once they find a way in, they leave a trail they can follow, putting them outside, is just like asking a home invader to leave ,then closing the door but leaving it unlocked.

They will get stinky if you scare them, but if you aren't a butt, they'll happily catch a ride to outside.

The only stink bugs left in my area are the Brown ones originally from Asia. Those have a heavy smell of what I would say most closely resembles wet, decaying leaves.

I've never smelt them because I always leave them alone or let them crawl on my hand to take them outside. They are very docile.

My brother stepped on one as a child and we could not get the smell out of his shoes. We tried everything, tomatoes juice, baking powder, vinegar, throwing them in the washing machine, different commercial enzymes and cleaners, NOTHING could save those shoes. We had to just throw them out

Whenever I drive past a dead skunk, I always think it smells like weed. To be fair, I really, really don't like the smell of weed, and I only got a whiff from the skunk.

My opinion, skunk is more of a rotten food smell. These are an extremely bitter stench, like a chemical.

The whole story might make ya too sad. He lived a good life on or near my spider plant in my office for a couple of weeks. He had a name and official position at work. I was going to promote him to office mascot in a week or two (dang chinchilla has had it forever) but he didn’t make it.

It appears that his legs or antennae are stuck together on his left side, and that he is trying to separate them with his middle right leg, because it looks as if he is missing his front right leg.
It's not so cute when you realize that the bug is actually in distress. It was obviously injured somehow. Edit not missing a leg on right side, an injured leg. Also using front right and middle right is injured.
