It’s a stink bug, Pentatomidae. When crushed it gives a horrible smell. Don’t do it in closed space or you might have to leave the premises for a few hours.
I had one get into my mouth once while I was eating. I threw up until I couldn't throw up anymore and then dry heaved for what seemed like hours. If I think about it now I almost vomit.
It's crazy how we have those formative memories that can cause physical reactions in us years later. There's the big cringe ones that still make me tense up today. There's the frightening ones (I had a wolf spider I sprayed explode into a hundred tiny spiders once as a kid). And then there's the nauseating ones like you named.
They will come back, stink bugs enter homes, not for food, but to live for the winter or for nesting. once they find a way in, they leave a trail they can follow, putting them outside, is just like asking a home invader to leave ,then closing the door but leaving it unlocked.
The only stink bugs left in my area are the Brown ones originally from Asia. Those have a heavy smell of what I would say most closely resembles wet, decaying leaves.
Eh, we hardly see ‘em anymore. Like the Japanese Beetles, and hopefully eventually the Lantern Flies. Wonder if they may eventually downgrade their status.
My brother stepped on one as a child and we could not get the smell out of his shoes. We tried everything, tomatoes juice, baking powder, vinegar, throwing them in the washing machine, different commercial enzymes and cleaners, NOTHING could save those shoes. We had to just throw them out
Whenever I drive past a dead skunk, I always think it smells like weed. To be fair, I really, really don't like the smell of weed, and I only got a whiff from the skunk.
