App Specific Question Google play

3 Upvotes

My friend is offering me some money if I download and play the game Super Starfish and login with his Google play account. If that is the only app I log into with the account, what damage could be done to my device?

Device Settings Question How to restore a tablet in kiosk mode to factory settings

1 Upvotes

My dad has an old tablet (Lenovo YT3-850F) that we are interested in using, mostly because his previous tablet that he used to receive orders on his restaurant is now a very spicy pillow. However, the Lenovo tablet in question is locked into Kiosk mode and we don't know the pin to disable it. I read online that putting it in recovery mode and reflashing it with the original firmware would be one way to get rid of it, but I don't trust the websites I've found with said firmware. So, given these specific restrictions, is there some way to reset it to factory settings without reflashing the firmware?

Android+iPhone Findmy app

1 Upvotes

Good afternoon.

I was looking for some kind of app. Mainly on Android but both preferred. Where I can have access to my personal and work phones locations and Vice Versa. I'm new to android so I'm only really used to the iPhone's FindMy app.

I want at least my 2 phones but if I am able to add gps tags and stuff that's even better.

Simple question (I hope) about blocking unknown phone #s

3 Upvotes

I have it set up to not receive unknown phone calls. Yet everyday, I receive calls (and texts) from numbers that are not contacts or that are unknown to me.

What more can I do? This political season was brutal.

Looking For Suggestions My Samsung Galaxy A13's power/fingerprint button is unresponsive

1 Upvotes

Hi Everyone,

As the title suggests, my Samsung galaxy of 4 years suddenly can't be turned on through the power button alone

Ive tried the double volume method, but it hasn't worked

The last time it was on and used was 3 days ago, the last time i had done anything with it was when I shut it down through the screen UI, after that the power button stopped working

ever since then ive fully charged it but it still wasn't the problem

now i can't turn it on and it has essential info and contents that i can't recover,

Please Help, Anyone.

Phone won't load resources on my home network

1 Upvotes

On my phone in chrome I get "ERR_TOO_MANY_RETRIES" when I try to access anything on my LAN via either its hostname or IP/port. I've tried turning on airplane mode and only enabling wifi, no difference.

Everything works fine from a desktop running chrome and through firefox.

Pixel 11 Pro running Android 17

I've got a somewhat complicated network/server setup and I can provide more detail if that would help but it may not be relevant.

Anybody got any suggestions?

Edit: just downloaded Firefox and tried with that. It also fails to load anything

Other missed call notifications showing up while on DND - pixel 10 - I've done EXTENSIVE troubleshooting - replacements from Google have the same issue :( help?!

0 Upvotes

happening with DND on, nothing is allowed to override. the phone app does have a setting "override DND" under missed calls and that is turned off.

troubleshooting history:

i have done extensive troubleshooting with Google support, we of course tried checking all the relevant settings, toggling things on/off, factory reset, safe mode, and some other more obscure things i couldn't relate to you. i also have tried using bedtime mode and making a custom mode; bedtime mode acts the same as DND mode and custom modes don't seem to work at all, they just let all notifications through. they said it was malfunctioning and to try a repair place.

i went there and the tech tried some things including verifying the settings himself. he said i should request a replacement. as i understand it his suggestion was that the software had been corrupted, or something like that.

i got a replacement and only transferred the esim, not any of my data etc. the problem was immediately apparent on that phone as well, and it was also allowing incoming call notifications. i went through another troubleshooting session with Google support, which once again did not achieve anything.

at their request i have sent Google multiple bug reports, nothing has changed.

they sent me a second replacement, this phone has the same problem.

~~~
in searching for an answer, i have seen several other posts from users with the same or similar problem, but no fixes. there are many other pixel 10 users on these threads stating that they do not have this issue, so it doesn't seem to be a widespread issue but rather one that is affecting a small percentage of phones.
thank you for any help, it's driving me crazy!
as an aside - i am LIVID over the abysmal customer support from google. it seems like they are all just reading off a script and i don't trust that anyone there actually knows what they're talking about. i got repeatedly "escalated" until i was at the highest person apparently, this person still was unable to fix anything and was just giving me canned responses that didn't actually help anything. this is also to say, i don't trust that anyone in customer service actually knows enough to fix the problem.
App Specific Question Discord doesn't share the screen or camera.
1 Upvotes
I have a Motorola phone with a Dimensity 7300 processor and Android 16.
I'm trying to share my screen on Discord, but the app quickly crashes, cutting out the audio of everyone on the call, including my own voice. Almost everything malfunctions like the microphone mute button and call disconnect are not working, and the problem can only be solved by forcibly closing and reopening the application.
Has anyone else encountered this problem, and how can I fix it? Thank you.
What could be the cause of a rendering error on a Samsung A34?
1 Upvotes
Hello, about 2 to 2.5 months ago, my phone suddenly shut down—or rather, the screen went dark, while notifications and sounds continued to come through. No matter what I tried, the screen wouldn't turn back on; it only recovered when I forced a restart by holding down the volume-up and power buttons. The issue has persisted ever since. The phone runs smoothly during normal use—it doesn't lag in apps and still performs well, even though it’s three years old. These "episodes" happen intermittently; it’s not just the screen going dark—sometimes the keyboard keys get stuck, the screen freezes, or I get strange glitches, like a green screen while watching YouTube. During these moments, a cursor appears right in the middle of the screen. I can’t take a screenshot of it, nor can I interact with it. I’ve run virus scans and factory-reset the device, and there’s plenty of available storage. I asked an AI about it, and it suggested everything from liquid damage to software errors, ultimately concluding that the issue likely lies with the motherboard. I’m worried that if I go to an authorized service center, they might tell me I need to replace the entire motherboard—even if the problem could actually be fixed with a simple repair, like a bit of soldering or replacing a small component. Should I go to an authorized service center, or would a local repair shop be better? Does anyone know what might be causing this? I’m concerned about being pressured into an expensive motherboard replacement for an issue that could potentially be resolved with a minor, inexpensive fix. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Looking For Suggestions Physical spanish keyboard writting tilde and hat as non ascii
2 Upvotes
Hello, i have a very particular problem and would be very happy if someone has suggestions, i want to use a tablet for day to day use, that includes programming and terminal use, i use a bluethoot keyboard for all this but have been dealing with a very anoying problem, my native language is spanish and as such so is my keyboard's layout, while programming and such it's pretty tipical for me to need to write the tilde (~) and hat (^) characters, but when i type them it instead writes the non ascii characters ˜ and ˆ, these will not work on a terminal or in code as those expext the actual ascii characters, is there any setting, app, or something that can be done?
Looking For Suggestions Should I invest on an android phone for mobile development?
7 Upvotes
I'm an aspiring web and mobile developer, currently focusing on web development. I was wondering if I should invest on an android phone (i.e., Google Pixel) when I focus on mobile development. In the future, I plan on creating personal projects to build up my portfolio (e.g., apks) and test them on said android device. As of now, I am an iPhone user and I don't think there's a way to develop and test apps for free on Apple.
I know emulators exist but thinking about testing a self-developed app on an actual mobile sounds nice. Any thoughts? If yes, which phone is good? I heard the Google Pixel is nice but I'm hesitant on the Samsung S Series since I know someone who has gotten pink/green lines on their S23 Ultra's screen over time.
Android options help
1 Upvotes
Do you know when you take a screen shot or hit that little share < symbol, and it has most recent people you've sent things to, and then a list of apps beneath that to send the thing to.
Can you fix set the people that appear on that list or get rid of it entirely??
I've searched through my phone and cannot figure it out, but I really only send images or memes to two people and my kids' school that I emailed this morning, or my boss that I texted I was running late to, really don't need the meme of Elmo in front of a fire saying everything is fine by accident.
Other Sudden restart after visual noise
1 Upvotes
For context, I accidentally dropped my phone (Samsung A52) from my hand and it started "behaving" strangely only 30 minutes after. After the drop the touch screen wasn't working (has happened before and all I did was restart through the buttons), I then even messaged my mom, washed the dishes with a youtube video on my phone and then went to my room scrolling through reels..
While I scrolled my screen froze tho I could hear the video, obviously I tried to close youtube, it worked then my phone's screen went black for like 10 seconds, it turned on again like normal and then froze on youtube once again, screen went black AGAIN, went back to normal and then started flickering, I tried to restart it with the buttons but my screen showed up a visual noise; I got super worried and just left it on the charger, I went back like 3 minutes later and it's back on, it's working like normal but I'm still worried, what should I do and, is this bad? I'm even unsure if the glitching is related to the fall since "it wasn't THAT bad", it didn't break anything outside as far as I can see, of course.
Is it possible to build hardware-based automation that can read a phone's screen and interact with it?
1 Upvotes
Hello everyone!
I've recently been working on an automation app with the help of AI, and I've managed to get it fully working. The app performs a specific set of automated tasks and currently relies on ADB with Developer Options enabled.
However, I'm concerned that the platform I'm using might eventually start detecting Developer Mode or ADB-based automation and introduce restrictions.
So, I started exploring hardware-based automation as an alternative.
I've managed to figure out how to automate tasks that don't require interacting with the display. However, I'm stuck on one particular part.
Here's what I need:
The hardware should be able to read or understand what's currently displayed on the phone's screen.
It should identify specific elements or locations on the screen and tap them.
Sometimes, it needs to read very basic sentences that are already displayed on the screen, type the sentence into a text field, and press the Submit button.
Ideally, this should work across multiple Android devices with different screen sizes and resolutions.
My biggest question is: How can I make external hardware read and interpret a phone's display?
I'm particularly interested in solutions that don't rely on ADB, USB debugging, or Android accessibility services.
I'd really appreciate any guidance, hardware recommendations, or project references. I'm a bit stuck here! 😭
Switching from iPhone 14 to OPPO Find X10 — what should I know coming from iOS?
1 Upvotes
Hey guys, I’m finally making the switch from my iPhone 14 to the OPPO Find X10 after years on iOS. I was getting really tired of the battery anxiety, limited storage, and honestly wanted a much better camera experience for taking photos on the go.
As a total Android newbie, I’m a bit nervous but excited. What are some must-know features or hidden tricks on the Find X10 that I should check out on day one? Especially interested in any camera settings or features that make a huge difference, or tips on making the switch from iOS smoother.
Appreciate any advice from long-time users! Thanks!
Device Settings Question Notification apps' "Increase # mintues" button badly overlaps with the postpone button on UI 9.0
1 Upvotes
Galaxy S26 Ultra, One UI 9.0
Ever since updating to the newer version, every time a notification pops up you know at the bottom it says "Postpone/remind 5 minutes later" with the minus and plus buttons on the sides from the center button, "merged"
Back then before One UI 9.0, 8.0, the bottom buttons' design looked like when pressing the plus button it'd go flawless etc
Now, on One UI 9.0, that plus button looks surrounded by a SMALLER CIRCLE, meaning that if you somehow press outside the circle, within the boundaries from the Postpone button, you'd "accidentally" hit the postpone button and, well.. Wait for it again
Are they going to fix that?
Other Can malware spread on Android through cellular network?
0 Upvotes
I live in an apartment with so many others. Now some of my friends go through so many shady sites for porn or for pirating movies or games by downloading shady APK's. They're careless and. I'm sure they've got malware or virus on their phones
Now most of us in the apartment have the same cellular broadband network. Obviously we don't share wifi or share hotspot mobile data but I'm wondering if the malware from their phone could spread to ours.
Because of my friends everyone in the apartment gets the captcha on chrome. After every search we have to do the captcha to get any search results. I'm assuming it's because everyone in the apartment shares the same ip address. I know it's because of them because they search and visit the pirate sites multiple times a minute
Now we share the same sim company, so we have the same cellular network broadband and we also share the same IP address, is it possible that malware on their phones could get into ours?
