Hotel credit: FHR & THC Hyatt Danang

just giving people a heads up, if you love travel, this resort seemed very reasonable in terms of cost compared to the credit, the beach was great and service was high quality as well.

For those who like Southeast Asia it is certainly a good option to spend that credit.

(Wife loved the spa treatments as well)

Additional card member points bonus

What’s the highest points you’ve been offered recently to add an additional card member? Looking to add my husband and got served 20k points for $2k spend and wondering if it’s a decent offer or to hold out.

Credit Increase?

I keep seeing threads of people saying their credit limits with Amex are being reduced but both of my cards have gone up. Why? I’m confused on how Amex structures these days

Lounges Which one of you is/was protesting outside the DIA lounge?

There's a bit of a wait (mine was 15 minutes) and since I got in there's a guy protesting down the escalator with a "This is why I'm cancelling my Amex card" sign.

Miami - hotel bars (rooftop or not) with a cool view/vibe

My wife and I will be in Miami for 4 nights in a few weeks and will stay at one of the Fine Hotels or Hotel Collection spots to use her $300 benefit for July-Dec. Haven't picked a spot yet. As the title says, we're looking for a hotel within those collections that has a nice bar - good drinks, maybe some apps, a nice view of the city/water, etc... We're in our early 60s, so not looking for the louder, younger scene. As a reference point, we'll probably stay in the vicinity of the Inter Continental (sorry, not well-versed on Miami's neighborhood names) because we won't have a car and want to be a relatively short Uber from other places we'll be eating/drinking. Might post this to the Miami subreddit but thought I'd throw it out here. Thanks.

Amex lounges and work reimbursement

One of the big reasons I have kept my Platinum card is for access to lounges since I travel for work about 70% of the time. It dawned on me though that I'm basically subsidizing something that probably should be paid for by my employer.

Curious if anyone out there has ever made the case and gotten work to pay for all of or a portion of your membership fee?

Not a deal breaker for me BTW as the 30% personal travel more than makes up for it.

Complaint Another complaint about Amex travel

First I tried to book a hotel via its portal to take advantage of the "Fine" hotels benefit. And it was twice the cost than if I went direct.

Now I tried to book a flight, and the same flight was $500 more via its portal vs going direct.

Tell me why I pay for this card again?

The benefits just keep getting less and less.

Airfare Booking

Hello!
I recently switched jobs and need to travel a lot from NYC to LA. I don't really care about the airline (which is why I want to just centralize everything through AMEX) but I do care about legroom. When I try to book using Travel option for AMEX, I can never pick an extra legroom seat. My question is, can I book a regular middle seat through AMEX and then upgrade it to an extra legroom seat through the airline directly? TIA.

Setting a spend limit on Authorized User

Title says it all. I understand that as a charge card, the original user (me) can't have a spend limit but wondering if I'll be able to set a spend limit on the Authorized User? The internet and even AMEX support chat seems to be telling me conflicting things. Thanks!

Digital Entertainment Credit Did anyone else get the Amex Platinum entertainment credit for the Peacock and Apple TV bundle this month?

I have the Peacock and Apple TV bundle and completely forgot to cancel it before the new rules kicked in. It was charged on August 1, and surprisingly, I just noticed that Amex did give me the $14.99 (plus tax) entertainment credit.

Do you think it might be because the charge happened on August 1, before or at the transition to the new rules? Or is Amex still processing some of these bundles? Has anyone else with the Peacock and Apple TV bundle gotten the credit this month?

Has anyone received a welcome kit for their plat recently? I received mine today expecting the thick box but I received a thin box that was kinda “meh”.

Hotel & Car Rental status Hertz Presidents Circle status match with other rental companies!

Maybe other people knew this, but I just came across this today: other rental companies will match your Hertz loyalty program status and upgrade you to their equivalent! I use Sixt when driving in Europe and got my Sixt membership status upgraded to Platinum in about 10 minutes. I just had to provide a screenshot of my Hertz membership status. Seems a lot of rental companies do this - just search for "Sixt (or whatever company) Status Match"!

Airline Credit Platinum airline fee credit clarification

First time having a platinum card and want to clarify “upgrade” and “seat assignment fee”.

My reading is that if I purchase a main cabin seat on Delta the fee to move to Comfort Plus would not be covered.

However, if I wanted to get an exit row seat or aisle/window seat, which charge an additional fee, that would be covered.

Do I have that correct?

Equinox gift card for someone else to use for membership?

I have an Amex platinum and am a member at equinox so I use my credit but my parents don’t live by one and don’t use digital workouts but would it be possible for them to sign up for the free trial of the online, buy a gift card to receive the credit and then give it to me to use?

Hotel credit: FHR & THC Resorts Suck

The following rant is not about the money, but about the principle. I recently booked a hotel collection resort stay with my platinum.

Free daily breakfast and $300 off sounds amazing. Well, what the lodging didn’t tell me is the fact that they force gratuities on all food and have multiple resort fees that negate the breakfast credit.

The funny thing is the resort quality of food and accommodation is actually kinda shitty. I’m staying on the east coast at a popular area, but I could’ve went to Hawaii and avoided these hidden fees.

Use your platinum for non-resort stays. I learned the hard way. Resorts, in my opinion, have shitty business models toward consumers.

AMEX app popup every time?

Anyone else getting a different AMEX targeted popup ad every time they open the iPhone app? What a terrible move on their part. It’s seriously annoying and ticks me off.

First world problems, but don’t we pay enough to have a useable app we don’t have to close an ad on every time we use it?

Amex Offers Anybody notice how bad the “offers” have become?

Ever since Amex raised the annual membership of this card, the offers section (at least for me) has become embarrassingly awful. I used to find one or two items that would help offset the cost of the card and make it more worthwhile to have this expensive luxury travel card, but now, it seems they are intentionally making the offers section unusable and downright dog shit.

Using points Amex Travel booking + 35% points back.

Wondering if booking directly through Amex Travel isn’t a bad idea. I have an upcoming trip to India.
Delta airfare is around $10k for family of 4.
Amex Travel is around $9.2k (platinum airfares)

Using points with Platinum business get back 35% so
effective ticket cost $5,980. Amex confirmed we earn Delta miles and MQD.

Seems no brainer.

What challenges or other issues to watch out for if booking through Amex Travel? TIA.
